“Help! I’m the Chosen One (and I Didn’t Sign Up for This)!”

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: “Unleash the Beast (Not That Beast!)”

As the glowing door creaked open, an earth-shaking roar erupted, reverberating through the cave like a monstrous symphony of destruction.

"Yup, definitely not good!" Kazuya yelled, raising his sword as the cavern began to tremble.

From the shadows emerged a creature unlike anything they'd ever seen—a massive chimera with the head of a snarling lion, the body of a dragon, and a tail that ended in a snapping serpent. Its eyes glowed with an otherworldly red light, and flames licked at its dragon-like jaws.

"I told you it wouldn't be good!" Mika snapped, gripping her sword tightly.

"Less talking, more fighting!" Lyria shouted, her hands already blazing with magical energy.

The Battle Begins

The chimera lunged, its lion's head roaring as it swiped at them with claws the size of scimitars. Mika dodged to the left, slashing at its side, while Kazuya rolled to the right, narrowly avoiding the serpent tail.

"Why does everything in this world want to kill us?!" Kazuya shouted as he struck at the beast's flank. His sword bounced off its scales with a clang, barely leaving a scratch.

"Because we're in a cursed ruin chasing bad guys!" Mika yelled back, landing a solid hit on the chimera's leg. The beast roared in pain but didn't falter.

Lyria hovered above them, her hair glowing like a halo as she hurled fireballs at the creature's dragon head. "I'm starting to think this quest isn't worth the gold we're not getting paid!"

The Chimera's Counterattack

The chimera's dragon head reared back, spewing a torrent of flames.

"Down!" Mika shouted, tackling Kazuya to the ground as the fire roared overhead. The heat singed their clothes, but they avoided the worst of it.

Kazuya blinked up at Mika, who was practically on top of him. "Uh… thanks?"

"Get up!" she snapped, her face bright red as she sprang to her feet.

Meanwhile, Lyria summoned a shield of shimmering energy to block the flames. "Can we focus on not dying?"

The chimera's serpent tail lashed out, nearly catching Lyria mid-air. She flipped backward, landing gracefully. "Close one! Almost got a free haircut there!"

A Desperate Plan

"We can't keep this up!" Mika shouted, dodging another swipe of the chimera's claws. "It's too strong!"

"Then we need a plan!" Kazuya yelled, ducking under the serpent tail.

Lyria smirked. "I have a plan."

Mika and Kazuya exchanged a wary glance. "Should we be worried?" Kazuya asked.

"Probably," Mika muttered.

Before they could protest, Lyria raised her hands, chanting in an ancient language. A swirling vortex of energy appeared above the chimera, crackling with lightning.

"Whatever you're doing, do it fast!" Mika shouted, fending off the lion head as it snapped at her.

"Hold it off for ten more seconds!" Lyria called.

"Ten seconds?!" Kazuya yelled, parrying a blow from the serpent tail. "We'll be chimera chow by then!"

Unleashing the Chaos

As the chimera reared back for another fiery breath, Lyria's spell reached its climax. With a triumphant yell, she unleashed the vortex, which slammed into the beast with the force of a meteor.

The chimera roared, thrashing wildly as the energy engulfed it. Mika and Kazuya scrambled to avoid being crushed by its flailing limbs.

"Is it working?" Kazuya asked, panting.

The chimera staggered, smoke rising from its charred scales. For a moment, it looked like it might collapse.

But then, with a defiant roar, the beast rose again, its dragon head glowing brighter than ever.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Mika shouted.

Lyria blinked. "Uh… I might have made it angrier."

A Chosen One's Gamble

Kazuya gritted his teeth, his heart pounding. "We need to hit it where it hurts. There has to be a weak spot!"

"Good luck finding one!" Mika retorted, slashing at the chimera's claws.

Kazuya's eyes darted to the glowing artifact still embedded in the chimera's chest. "That thing! The artifact—it's powering it!"

"Great observation," Mika said, deflecting another claw. "Now how do we get to it without dying?"

"I'll distract it!" Kazuya said, determination flaring in his eyes.

Mika's face twisted in frustration. "You're going to get yourself killed!"

"Just trust me!" he said, dodging past her and charging at the chimera.

The Climactic Moment

Kazuya yelled, drawing the chimera's attention as he feinted to the side. The lion head snapped at him, missing by inches, while the serpent tail whipped toward him.

"Now, Mika!" he shouted.

With a growl of determination, Mika leapt onto the chimera's back, using its scales as footholds. The beast roared and thrashed, but she held on, climbing higher until she reached the artifact.

"Hold still, you overgrown lizard!" she snarled, plunging her sword into the glowing artifact.

The chimera let out a deafening roar, its body convulsing as the artifact shattered. Light burst from the wound, engulfing the cavern in a blinding glow.

Victory… and Collapse

When the light faded, the chimera was gone, leaving only a smoking crater where it had stood.

Kazuya collapsed to the ground, breathing hard. Mika stumbled over to him, her sword dragging behind her.

"You're insane," she said, glaring at him.

"Maybe," he said, grinning weakly. "But it worked."

Lyria floated down, looking remarkably unruffled. "That was awesome! Can we do it again?"

"No!" Mika and Kazuya shouted in unison.

The cavern groaned ominously, cracks spreading through the walls.

"Uh, time to leave?" Kazuya suggested, scrambling to his feet.

"Good idea," Mika said, grabbing his arm and pulling him toward the exit.

"Run!" Lyria yelled, laughing as they sprinted out of the collapsing cave.

To Be Continued…

As they emerged into the sunlight, panting and covered in soot, Kazuya glanced at Mika.

"Thanks for saving my life," he said.

"Don't mention it," she muttered, looking away.

Lyria smirked. "Oh, I'm definitely mentioning it. To everyone."
