Chapter 5: Chapter 005: “Can I Touch You?”
Even Celestine felt this situation was somewhat inappropriate. After all, Claudia had already shown outwardly that she was not resistant to marrying Asahi. If Asahi were to seek her out to explain things now, it would undoubtedly provoke dissatisfaction.
"Anyway, let's just talk it out first. If I don't go and explain it to her, there's no way to know."
The only solution Asahi could think of was this. As for what the result would be, it would depend on Claudia's attitude toward him.
"It seems that's the only way."
Celestine nodded. In this situation, they could only try as Asahi suggested. However, she was quite worried about what would happen if they failed. If it didn't work out, Asahi would undoubtedly have to stay with Claudia. And at that time...
"Sigh..."
Celestine couldn't help but sigh. 'Is this the consequence of digging my own pit to fall into?'
"Don't be so gloomy. Things haven't reached a point where there's no way out, right?"
"I know, I'll pray for you. I hope everything goes smoothly with this."
After discussing these issues, Asahi's thoughts became preoccupied with other matters. After realizing Celestine's feelings, he couldn't help but notice her always provocative attire when he looked at her now. It was impossible not to think of some particularly special things.
"Asahi, you're definitely thinking about something perverted right now."
Celestine noticed Asahi's gaze and immediately understood the meaning behind his scanning eyes. Even though the issue hadn't been resolved, he was already thinking about such things.
Thinking about those matters made Celestine blush, even her ears turned red. She looked exceptionally beautiful and enchanting.
"I think this is normal, isn't it? Besides, a big part of it is because of your outfit, Celestine. It's naturally leading my thoughts in that direction. Or maybe if you change your clothes, things might improve."
Seeing Asahi shift the blame onto her, even suggesting she change her outfit, Celestine couldn't help but reach out and pinch his face to vent her dissatisfaction.
"Always saying such things. Clearly, it's your head full of dirty thoughts, yet you blame me. You're truly making me feel sorry for you. Anyway, stop thinking about those things. We have to resolve the issue with General Garf first, and only after completing the sacred ceremony under Goddess Lerentia's witness can we be united."
"Does it really have to be like that?"
Asahi's expression immediately fell. He had finally gotten such a chance, only to be told that he couldn't do what he wanted. How could such a situation not be disheartening?
"It absolutely must be like that."
Looking at Celestine's determined stance, Asahi felt helpless yet unwilling to accept it.
"If I just touch you, is that okay?"
"Touch me? That's..."
Celestine hesitated. But seeing Asahi looking at her with such a pitiful expression, she couldn't bring herself to refuse and reluctantly nodded.
"You're truly impossible to deal with. Fine, but you can only touch, nothing else."
As soon as Celestine agreed, Asahi immediately threw her onto the bed, burying his face deep into her chest. While marveling at it, he also wholeheartedly indulged in the warmth.
Celestine blushed furiously as she endured everything. Just when she was adjusting to the strange sensation, she suddenly felt a kiss on her skin.
"Ah! Didn't I say you can't do anything else."
The electric shock-like sensation made Celestine shudder, and she looked at Asahi reproachfully for breaking his promise.
"The temptation was too much."
"If that's the case, stop doing these things, and you won't be tempted."
"No, I haven't enjoyed this warmth yet. I promise there won't be a next time, so let me enjoy this for a while longer."
To leave this warm embrace now was akin to death for Asahi. Until he was satisfied, he wanted to remain immersed in this warmth.
"You absolutely must keep your word this time. Otherwise, I really won't agree to this anymore."
After one last reminder, Celestine stopped commenting on Asahi's behavior. However, Asahi couldn't resist stealing another kiss before letting her go. Though Celestine reprimanded him lightly, she didn't do much else.
Regardless, this incident left Asahi extremely satisfied. He felt as if his life had finally begun to take a turn toward happiness.
The next day, when he met with Garf and Claudia, his face was beaming with joy. This sight made Garf wonder if Asahi had finally made up his mind to accept becoming his godson and Claudia's husband.
"Lord Asahi, seeing you so cheerful, does this mean you've made your decision?"
"Ah? You could say so. But General Garf, if possible, I'd like to speak with Claudia alone. Is that alright?"
"Of course, no problem."
Garf immediately nodded.
"I understand."
Claudia nodded as well. Following Asahi to a more secluded corner, she felt both nervous and expectant.
After confirming that no one else was around, Asahi turned his gaze toward the currently shy Claudia.
Seeing her like this made Asahi feel even guiltier about what he was about to say. He agonized over how to express himself in a way that wouldn't impact Claudia too much.
"Claudia, the reason I asked you here is to tell you something important. The truth is, the one I like is Celestine, and she wishes to take care of me. So about marrying you… uh?"
Before he could finish, Asahi felt a sudden, intense sense of danger. The previously shy Claudia now exuded a terrifying aura, almost otherworldly.
"…Claudia?"
Asahi's voice trembled. Claudia's presence was overwhelmingly intimidating, and her aura made him feel cold all over, 'Is this killing intent?'
But soon, Claudia began to pant heavily, suppressing the dangerous aura. Her overly intense emotions had triggered a state she usually only experienced on the battlefield.
"Sorry, Asahi. I got a bit too emotional just now and accidentally scared you."
Claudia looked apologetic. The sudden news had been too much for her to process, causing her mental state to momentarily destabilize. She'd even entertained thoughts of harming Celestine, which horrified her.
"I'm fine, but are you okay? You looked really scary just now. What happened?"
Asahi's concern warmed Claudia's heart, though it also left her feeling conflicted. She wanted to be the one taking care of him, but reality wasn't aligning with her hopes.
"Nothing, it was just a reflexive reaction. Let's talk about what you were saying earlier. You want to be with Lady Celestine, right?"
"Yes, she wishes to care for me, and I feel the same way."
"Asahi, you should consider your own feelings rather than others' expectations. Right now, you think Lady Celestine is the best for you because you've only interacted with her since arriving in this world."
"That's true…"
"So why not give yourself a chance to explore other possibilities? Only then will you truly understand who suits you best."
Claudia's persuasion made Asahi frown slightly. The current situation clearly could not be resolved just by talking. Moreover, if there was no way to make the other party cooperate in dealing with Garf, the result would be self-evident.
"...I understand. But in this situation, it's not possible to talk about directly getting married. Do you have any way to delay this? Or a method to solve the problem?"
"Currently, no."
Claudia shook her head in response. Even if she had a way, she wouldn't say it now. In fact, if possible, she would have wanted Asahi to marry her directly, so that there would be no obstacles.
"However, we could first arrange an engagement to temporarily stop Father from dwelling on this issue. The reason can be that you wish to achieve some accomplishments and build your merits first, then marry me with a better status. Father would absolutely accept this reasoning and even be happy to support you."
"Huh? Using this kind of reason? But what should I do in the end?"
Asahi felt there were big issues with this. If things were settled like this, how would it be possible to back out later?
"This is something we'll have to figure out later. For now, this is the only way to delay things. Also, it would give me a legitimate reason to take better care of you, and maintain a good relationship with Father, wouldn't it?"
Claudia's heart was somewhat tense. Everything she said was just preparation for her plans later. After all, once the news of her engagement with Asahi was spread, even Celesitine wouldn't have much to say. Moreover, doing so would easily influence the relationship between both sides, making this plan very advantageous for her.
"This..."
Asahi found it hard to make a decision, but he had no better ideas at the moment. It was essentially a matter of choosing the option with less impact.
"Sigh... I'll go with what you said."
In the end, Asahi agreed to Claudia's suggestion, which brought a happy smile to her face. Now, she could start turning the situation in her favor.
"By the way, Asahi, I'd like to ask you something. Do you like women like Lady Celestine? Or do you prefer female elves?"
Claudia wanted to understand Asahi's preferences. In terms of figure and looks, she believed she was still quite good—not much worse than Celestine. The issue of status wasn't significant either, as Asahi's own status negated any difference in rank. So the only thing left was race.
"Not bad, I suppose. But I guess race does add some bonus points."
Asahi nodded and admitted, which made Claudia sigh helplessly in her heart. If that's the case, there was nothing she could do. She couldn't possibly change her race, could she? Let alone the fact that it wasn't even feasible. She would have to think of other ways.
———
"Are you two done talking? So, shall we take Claudia back now, Lord Asahi?"
Garf eagerly questioned as soon as he saw the two of them reappear.
"Father, there's been a change. We've decided to get engaged first."
"Engaged? Why? That's unnecessary, isn't it?"
Garf was anxious to have Asahi join the family. He didn't care about engagement ceremonies, so he couldn't understand this approach.
"It's like this: Lord Asahi feels that for such an important matter, some preparation is needed. He believes that the Levontine family, as a noble house renowned for producing outstanding warriors, should see him build accomplishments and establish merit first. That way, he can marry me with an appropriate status, which would continue to enhance the family's reputation."
"An excellent goal! Lord Asahi."
This reasoning undoubtedly pleased Garf. He was so thrilled that he reached out to pat Asahi on the shoulder. In his eyes, striving for the family's glory was the most satisfying and commendable behavior, especially if Asahi could truly achieve it.
"It's nothing. After all, this isn't just for the family but also for Claudia. Although I have a somewhat special identity, I still think it's necessary to do something more in line with the Levontine family's prestige. Fortunately, I have that ability, so I'll aim for that goal."
Asahi humbly replied, but seeing Garf's pleased expression only made him more worried about how to handle the situation later.
"Don't be modest! Such behavior is something to be proud of. Leave the arrangements to me. I'll find a way to give you an opportunity to earn merit."
For a general like Garf, such matters were incredibly easy. However, he wasn't in a hurry to arrange it now. First, Asahi's physical training needed to meet the standard. Moreover, while there were minor conflicts at the border, they didn't provide significant opportunities for merit. Handling such skirmishes wouldn't accomplish much.
"For now, let's continue the unfinished training. The sooner your training is completed, Lord Asahi, the easier it'll be to earn merit on the battlefield."
With his fighting spirit ignited, Garf dragged Asahi to the training ground to start today's session. The entire process was filled with intense enthusiasm, which made Asahi feel utterly exhausted—so much so that he didn't even want to lift a finger.
While Asahi was utterly drained, Garf was still in an excited state. On their way back, Claudia also informed Garf of another matter.
"Father, during my conversation with Lord Asahi earlier, I learned that he seems to like elves."
"Likes elves? But the only elf he's met is Lady Celestine, right? Does that mean he has feelings for her?"
"Probably. Actually, regarding our engagement, Lord Asahi has agreed, but I'm somewhat worried that the longer he spends with Lady Celestine, the deeper his feelings for her will grow. After all, someone like her is indeed very charming, especially when they live together. I really don't know what to do about this."
Garf fell into deep thought. On the surface, this didn't seem like a big issue, but considering Asahi's daily interactions with Celestine, Claudia's concerns were quite reasonable.
"I'll think of a solution. But Claudia, when the time comes, I hope you won't get upset or dissatisfied. Can you promise that?"
"I can. I understand your intentions, Father. As long as it ensures that Lord Asahi and I end up together, I'll accept whatever it takes."
Seeing Claudia's serious gaze, Garf nodded in satisfaction. That's exactly how a woman of the Levontine family should be.
"If Lord Asahi is interested in elves, then we'll find him one. Once his thoughts have a suitable outlet, his attention will naturally shift away from Lady Celestine."
This was Garf's solution. In his view, an unattainable target couldn't compare to one he could actually have. Surely the latter would be more appealing.
"But elves are hard to deal with. Let's go with a dark elf. Though there's a slight difference, it shouldn't matter much. If he doesn't like it, we'll figure something else out later."
"Wouldn't that be inappropriate, Father? And how would we explain it to Lord Asahi?"
Judging by Garf's intention, he was clearly planning to capture a dark elf. Claudia found this approach a bit improper and worried it might displease Asahi.
"We don't know much about Lord Asahi's background, but in our world, slavery is common. Moreover, explaining it as part of our conflict with dark elves should make it seem reasonable to him."
Garf's suggestion seemed feasible to Claudia. Although it wasn't exactly honorable, showing pity to an enemy wasn't necessary. Thus, she silently agreed.
Now, they just had to wait for further developments. The challenge would be shifting Asahi's affections from Celestine to herself, making him realize that she was the better choice who could take care of him.
Such thoughts gave Claudia a headache. She had no experience in such matters. If only these problems were as simple as cutting down enemies on a battlefield. Unfortunately, that was impossible.
"Perhaps it would be better to have Asahi live within the Levontine family. Once he's distanced from Lady Celestine, things can progress more smoothly."
