Chapter 74: Good Night
Boom—
Driven by violent force, the flying equipment crashed into the wall, shattering into countless pieces. But, under Griseo's control, they were transformed into countless bullets that rained down on Kiana.
Kiana's golden pupils, now stained with crimson blood, shone brightly. She gritted her teeth, and directly opened several spatial rifts, swallowing the flying debris.
"A power that I've never seen before. What exactly is she?" In Kiana's mind, most Valkyries still fought using their own physical abilities. The only people she knew of who were able to fight solely through their powers, were the Herrscher of the Void themselves.
Buzz-
The air was compressed by the Herrscher's power, creating a muffled buzzing sound. Kiana raised her hand, and a large number of Void Lances shot out from the opened spatial rifts, colliding with Griseo's debris before disappearing.
Seeing that all of the debris that she could control had been shattered, Griseo lightly raised her hand. The pillars in the entire hall began to tremble. Pieces of falling cement kept scattering, as if an invisible hand had grabbed them and was forcefully pulling them.
Not giving her a chance to tear the building apart, Kiana directly used the Void Lances to pin the support pillars down. After all, the Herrscher of the Void's power was stronger. It was still too difficult for Griseo to tear down a building. But Ren wasn't someone who was so inflexible. If she couldn't tear down the building, then she would just change the battlefield.
The mecha forces that were providing support outside were still fighting with the zombies. And the Honkai beasts that were gradually appearing from the void kept emerging like locusts. Wherever they passed, nothing was spared. Even the tough cement structures were being bitten into.
Just as one of the less intelligent Chariot-class Honkai beasts was preparing to charge into a power pole, an extremely powerful energy shockwave instantly plowed through the ground, and the Honkai beast, along with a large number of mecha units, were vaporized, forming a huge, meter-wide gully.
Even the aftershocks of the battle between Kiana and Griseo were far beyond what the Honkai beasts and mecha could withstand. At this time, Griseo was completely suspended in the air, with countless stones being lifted up by her telekinesis behind her.
In the next moment, the stones fell like meteorites. The powerful impacts directly destroyed the space where Kiana had been standing, forcing her to use the Herrscher of the Void's power even more frequently. Unfortunately, Kiana at this time wasn't yet a true Herrscher. She mostly relied on close combat, making her extremely vulnerable in this wide open area.
Helpless, Kiana was gradually falling into a disadvantage. Because of the previous stimulation, her mental state was already unstable. Using the Herrscher power so frequently only intensified her condition. Fine Honkai cracks continued to spread on her body, and even Fu Hua, who had been in a state of self-imposed isolation, couldn't remain still anymore. She tried to use the Feather of the Past to alleviate the erosion.
Unfortunately, she was now powerless. She was just a consciousness, and Kiana was now rejecting her. She could only helplessly watch as Kiana was being submerged by the attacks.
The last boulder fell. Kiana no longer moved. Suspended in the air, Ren quietly watched, before turning around and leaving.
Wearing a white lab coat, Griseo was as light as a sprite. Her bare feet gently stepped onto a Honkai beast's head, before pushing off again, and drifting into the distance.
And the Honkai beast that she had stepped on, along with the ground beneath it, turned into fine powder.
With Griseo's victory, there was nothing left that could stop her from moving forward. Along the way, whether it was a Honkai beast or a zombie, they were all crushed under her power. Until, she stopped in front of a female zombie.
Her small, delicate hands were full of cracks, and even her fingertips were completely broken. Griseo raised her hand, wanting to touch the female zombie.
Her voice box had been severely damaged, and she seemed to be softly murmuring something. But in the next second, the hum of space resonated. A purple space rift was torn open, and a Void Lance shot out, directly piercing through her.
At this time, Kiana's Herrscher transformation was already severe, but she was still supporting her body with all of her strength. Her tired voice said, "She's a child's mother. You can't hurt her."
The zombie, who had already lost her will, raised her head. It was a face that looked just like Ren's mother.
Griseo's chest had been pierced by the Void Lance, and the splattered blood fell onto the zombie's face. The white lab coat that had covered her entire body had finally opened up. However, she only looked down at the Void Lance that was piercing through her chest, and continued walking towards the zombie. The white lab coat, now stained with blood, flowed onto the ground.
Thwack—
Another Void Lance flew out, pinning her to the spot.
"Stay away!"
At her limits, Kiana, hunched over, stepped forward towards the two.
"Since zombification is unavoidable, at least let him see his mother in her complete form."
And then…
She saw, under the white lab coat, a streak of light blue in her short red hair.
And the small girl who looked at her blankly.
"Sirin… big sister…"
"…"
"…"
All of her movements lost their strength. Even her breathing, her words, and even her ability to think, had been suddenly pulled away from Kiana's body. Her mind had completely turned blank. Only the girl covered in blood remained in her vision.
The red pupils that had been eroded by the Honkai gradually turned back to purple, still as pure as the purest gemstones. But now, they had completely dimmed, without any light.
"Cough…" Her pierced chest could no longer provide any oxygen. Griseo, standing on the ground, coughed up a mouthful of blood. Her light purple eyes could no longer see anything. She was shrouded in darkness.
"Griseo! Griseo!" Kiana called out with all of her strength, but her collapsing body could only make a faint sound, just like Griseo had tried to call to the zombies before.
She finally understood that Griseo didn't want to kill Ren's mother after she had become a zombie. She had just recognized the woman. And she wanted to call out, wanted to embrace her. And she…
What have I done?
Her body felt so heavy, and her consciousness felt so heavy.
Her entire body collapsed onto the ground, and Kiana desperately crawled forward. The Void Lance had lost its power, and had completely disappeared. Griseo, who had been supported by the lance, had completely lost her power, and the splattered blood had gradually formed a puddle. A cold evening breeze blew, and she fell to the ground.
Finally, Kiana held her.
The Honkai energy that had been supporting Griseo had completely turned into a poison that was killing her, quickly eroding her life.
"Don't die… don't die!"
The body in her arms gradually lost its warmth. Kiana desperately prayed, but no gods could respond to her.
The dense stitches, the cuts, were now revealed, but because she was being embraced by someone familiar, Griseo still smiled.
"Sirin… big sister, I'm in so much pain…"
"Sirin… big sister, did you come to pick me up?"
In that instant, all of her memories came rushing back. This was no longer ARC City, but that Tower of Babel that was filled with blood and sin.
A girl named Bella, died in her arms in the same way.
Kiana… Sirin…
This is your inescapable fate…
"Stars, what color are they?" Griseo looked at the sky, her purple eyes completely devoid of light.
Kneeling on the ground, Kiana looked up. The night sky was covered in dark clouds, without any starlight.
"They're colorful. Stars are colorful, like a painting, like a sky full of vibrant paints."
"So beautiful…" the girl's voice gradually faded.
The child in her arms had completely stopped breathing, and had fallen into a deep sleep.
"Good night, Griseo. Good night."
