Chapter 66: Chapter 13: Vampires and Crosses
Morning found Theresa awakening in her tent after a good night's sleep.
Luckily, Luna Kindred wasn't like traditional vampires who couldn't sleep at night and were inactive during the day.
She could rest comfortably even at night.
"Ugh... Ah..." Stretching languidly upon sitting up, Theresa knew one thing was certain:
Today, I am still the most adorable girl in the universe.
"Lady Theresa, you're awake?"
Just then, a beautiful goblin woman entered with a tray of water.
Yes, this was the evolved form of female goblins, known as a "Goblina".
Three days had passed since Rimuru agreed to help the goblins against the Fanged Wolf Tribe.
To the goblins, the Fanged Wolf Tribe seemed very powerful, but for Rimuru and Theresa, they were still weak monsters.
After defeating the old chieftain of the Fanged Wolf Tribe, Rimuru had now conquered the entire tribe. (I won't go into detail; if you've read the original story once already, any more would just be padding.)
With both the Fanged Wolves and Goblins under his control, Rimuru naively began giving each individual a name.
Fortunately for him, the Fanged Wolf Tribe was tightly knit. By naming their leader, all the wolves—er, dogs—evolved at once.
Watching this, even Theresa thought about asking Rimuru for a name of her own.
But on second thought, even if Rimuru could give her one, it wasn't time yet. At least not until he became Demon Lord.
After bestowing names, Rimuru passed out from overusing his magic energy.
And so, Theresa, who had come with Rimuru, became the second-in-command.
-
After washing her face, Theresa gazed at the goblina before her. Has being single for too long made me see even a goblin as pretty...? she wondered.
Apart from slightly greenish skin, this goblin looked almost like any other human girl.
The ugly goblin had instantly turned into a beauty—this 'naming' thing is seriously messed up! Just then, Theresa's stomach growled.
I haven't eaten in three days, she realized.
"Lord Theresa, are you hungry? I'll call someone to prepare food," the goblina offered, ready to leave.
"Hold on, I don't need that kind of food..." Theresa quickly grabbed the goblina
"My lord?"
"I'm a vampire; only blood can fill my stomach. Can I have a bite of your arm, just one small bite... nothing will happen."
"This..." The goblina hesitated, clearly afraid but also unable to refuse.
"Don't worry, it won't hurt."
Theresa stood up without further ado and bit down on her neck. She was careful not to infect her with Honkai bacteria.
Her sharp fangs easily pierced the skin, but instead of pain, the goblin felt a tingling sensation that almost made her cry out in pleasure.
After just one sip, Theresa let go...
Well, she is still a goblin, Theresa thought. Even an evolved goblina doesn't taste all that special.
"My apologies!"
Seeing the tooth marks on the goblin's neck, Theresa wiped them away with a wave of her hand, making them disappear.
"It's alright, Lord Theresa..." The goblina suddenly looked at her with affectionate eyes.
"Uh, you can leave now!" Startled by this reaction, Theresa hurriedly dismissed her.
-
After a while, Theresa emerged, having tidied herself up. Just then, Rimuru woke up—his kidneys... no! His magic had been overworked.
"Rimuru! Are you okay?" Theresa rushed to his side, clearly worried.
"I'm fine!" Rimuru replied, sounding like an old man. "I just didn't realize naming something would use so much of my magic."
"As long as you're okay!" Theresa said, picking him up gently.
It's hard not to say that even though I know it was once a man in his thirties, this new body feels so soft and comfortable to hold.
After all, it's just some slime creature.
-
Next, Rimuru set out with the goblins to clear land for farming. But they soon realized they were missing basic tools.
The goblins also had no proper clothes; they just wrapped rags around themselves. This wouldn't do for Rimuru, who wanted to build a harmonious new community.
When he heard about a dwarf kingdom near the big forest, Rimuru decided it was time to... let's call it "recruit talent" from there to his goblin village.
Only someone like Rimuru would think of bringing dwarves to work in a goblin village.
And so...
Theresa didn't go along this time. She stayed behind in the goblin village to keep an eye on things while Rimuru took two others with him: the leader of the evolved wolves, now called Ranga, and a young goblin named Gobuta.
They headed towards the dwarf kingdom.
Night fell. Theresa watched the goblins sitting by their fires before flying up into a tree to look at the moon in the sky.
Just then...
Magic summon detected. Accept?
As soon as Theresa accepted the summon, everything spun around her, and she found herself suddenly in another place.
-
This was a vast underground chamber, shrouded in darkness.
At its center lay an evil magic circle, guarded by an obese youth dressed in lavish robes.
Behind him stood several wizards, while on one side of the chamber, a group of heavily armed soldiers waited with their weapons drawn. Each soldier held a bound young girl.
"Devils of hell, answer my call!" The fat boy whispered softly as he gazed at the magic circle before him.
A chill wind swept through the room, and a blood-red tornado formed above the magic circle. As it dissipated...
A five-meter-tall crimson cross descended from the heavens, plunging into the heart of the magic circle.
The sight startled the young man so much that he jumped back, hiding behind the wizards.
The armored soldiers quickly drew their swords, keeping a wary eye forward.
"Don't be afraid, Your Highness!"
An elderly wizard stepped forward, shielding the youth.
"I'm okay, sir..." The youth only felt better after hearing the mage's voice.
"Did you call me?"
At that moment, a pleasant young girl's voice rang out. Everyone turned towards it.
They saw a gothic-styled girl dressed in dark clothing, with bat wings, sitting atop a massive blood-red cross. Her face wore an odd smile.
It was clearly a beautiful yet eerie scene, sending chills down their spines.
