HI3: Starting from the Previous Civilization

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: "Sorting Out the Lottery Items"

It's already been two days since I got those lottery prizes.

During these two days, I haven't gone to school.

Why, you ask? Well, on the first day, I just lay in bed.

It's a bit embarrassing to talk about… I'll explain some other time.

Then I called the principal, asking for a long leave. If I were just some average student, there's no way the teachers would allow that. But I'm a top student. During these sixteen years—before I fully regained my memories—I was, as mentioned before, "that kid everyone compares their own kids to."

Ever since I traveled to this world, it feels like my brain's been working better. That's why I became "the model child" in everyone's eyes. Most importantly, because this school was built with my family's investment, there's hardly any issue taking time off.

A few years ago, I had a dream—must've been a fragment of my memories. After that, I started learning computer skills and became a hacker. For reasons unknown, a few books just happened to appear beside my desk at the time. I didn't think much of it and found them sitting on my family's bookshelf, so I went ahead and studied them.

'system: Good old cognitive interference works wonders.'

Now, if I'd traveled into the world of "Star Rail," I'd definitely be even more impressive than Silver Wolf. At least I'd still have my game account. Unfortunately, this is Honkai's previous civilization.

At first, I thought about investing in Mobius. From researching on the net—yes, I hacked into various networks—I found her info. Mobius hasn't yet established a lab, only published a few papers. As for when she'll officially form her research center, I really don't remember. If I help her set it up now… Well, in the storyline, Mobius always seemed desperate for research funds, often forced to socialize over drinks.

On another record from a small town's immigration file, I saw the name Elysia. Apparently, the data said she went traveling.

"Sigh, ε-(´д`;). How in the world am I supposed to find her?"

As for everyone else, I haven't found anything too useful. Mei, Su, and Kevin are still just kids. Dusk Street is a messy place crawling with unregistered folks—Kitty Cat (likely Phyllis) might still be a thief, and Aponia might be living in some convent. Griseo… well, even less to say there. And Kalpas is probably holed up in some remote mountain village being worshipped as a deity. Cosmo is… who knows. Eden has just begun her career not long ago…

Right now, the only one I can realistically contact is Mobius, who's basically "born with great knowledge."

"As if I'd go to the government. You kidding me?"

"If I said doomsday is coming, would they ever believe me?"

"That's completely impossible. They'd think I'm nuts and ship me straight to the psych ward."

"They might even inject me with a truth serum or something. I'm not sure I'd hold out, and who knows what secrets I might spill? If they find out I'm from another world, they'd slice me up in a lab for sure."

Sitting at my computer, I typed away at lightning speed.

"I wrote up an email offering to invest in a research facility and sent it to Mobius."

"Hope it works out."

When I recall those somewhat baffling lottery items, I can't help letting out another sigh:

"Sigh, ε-(´д`;)."

So it's true—the higher your hopes, the bigger your disappointment. I thought my luck had finally turned around. Let's not even talk about that white-rarity item—it was just a crate of instant noodles: 'Lovely Maid' flavor. Each cup's lid has some little white-haired character drawn on it, soaking in the noodles. After tasting it, I realized it's exactly the same as any typical instant noodle.

The blue-tier items include Projection Magecraft, a Noble Phantasm, Kiritsugu Emiya's magic crest, and the Eye of Analysis. There's also a purple-tier item: a Reality Marble.

"Yep, that's right, the one from 'I'm just a worthless bonehead'—that entire reference."

"C'mon, I'm in the Honkai world, not the Fate universe. What good are these here?"

"I don't even have the knowledge to replicate those weapons. What am I supposed to do—wrap a Herrscher in that space and self-destruct? Become a champion of justice?"

"Yeah, right. My aim here is just to survive, not be some hero."

Luckily, there's at least a consolation prize among the purple items—Honkai Energy Resistance and Honkai Energy Adaptability. At the time, the moment I saw powers connected to the Honkai, I just slapped those two light spheres onto myself, no second thoughts. Only later did it occur to me this might be a giant pitfall.

'How so? Doesn't that make me the prime candidate for a Herrscher?'

"Ugh, (╯°□°)╯︵┻━┻."

But I've already fused them into my body. There's no going back now; I'll just have to deal with it.

As for the two gold-tier items… let's just say talking about it hurts.

One is "Adaptive Evolution." I was expecting a big jackpot there, but that item is such a trap. Sure, it adapts and can evolve, but it takes a long cycle. Give it enough time, and even a beam of light could evolve into a sentient lifeform. But time is exactly what I'm lacking—I've only got, what, maybe twenty-some years before the cataclysm hits? No way I'll evolve into some shining cosmic lifeform in that span.

How do I know? Because I went and used that item on myself in a moment of haste. Reflecting on it afterwards, I deeply regretted it. Now combined with those purple-tier abilities, I'm not just a possible Herrscher vessel—I'm practically the perfect Herrscher vessel, aren't I?

"Thank goodness there's at least some other consolation..."

The other gold-tier item is a Noble Phantasm named "Tigre la Brillante Llama"—

Type: Anti-Personnel, Anti-Army Noble Phantasm, Effective Range: 1–20, Maximum Target Count: 1–100.

It stems from the unyielding iron will nurtured in the hellish Château d'If—symbolizing the Count of Monte Cristo's power to break free of any prison that tries to confine his body, or even intangible jails like time and space. He can think at ultra-high speed and forcibly make his body respond, effectively achieving a "time-stop-like" ultra-fast action.

(For anyone who doesn't know the Fate Universe skillset, that's a basic explanation. I'll list a skill chart once, then won't repeat it.)

I can't help suspecting my system might've robbed the Fate world or something. Most prizes come straight out of the Nasuverse.

By the way, when I first got this skill, I was stupid enough to try it out. The experience was surreal; as the description says, it's as though everything around you stands still. But I couldn't even last three seconds before collapsing on the floor, where I stayed for an entire day.

Good thing "Adaptive Evolution" also comes with high-speed recovery—otherwise I'd be bedridden for life. I did notice that after healing, my body got a bit stronger. Just a bit, though. My originally sub-healthy body is now merely healthy. But wow—once the healing completed, I was so hungry I practically devoured everything in the fridge. That kind of hunger was indescribable. If possible, I never want to go through that again.

Now that I have this Noble Phantasm, I need to plan carefully. What should I do next?

I'm thinking: if the speed of my thought can surpass time, then I could use that as a quantum computer, right?

Suddenly, I recalled those things from the games I played in my past life—bomb-lobber guns, chain saw rifles, logging cannons… aether… If I can learn and pair it with super-accelerated thinking—this skill that practically defies time—maybe I can replicate them somehow. In that case, Honkai wouldn't be so unbeatable.

I've got enough funds. Worst case, I can try building small stuff myself. Huge constructs, though, are definitely out of my league for now.

"Eh, I'm getting ahead of myself. First, I should set a small goal: create a protective suit that resists Honkai corruption."

Using a lightning-fast flurry of keystrokes, I secretly hacked into the Mu Continent's archive while keeping a bunch of high-calorie snacks around me. Then I activated "Tigre la Brillante Llama." In my eyes, the data scrolled by at insane speed, like a sponge greedily soaking up water.

The side effect? It's huge. After about five seconds, I flopped right onto the keyboard, eyes rolled back, completely passed out. Even while unconscious, I was mechanically grabbing snacks beside me and stuffing them in my mouth. Good thing "Adaptive Evolution" can heal me. If I carry on like this, I'll definitely be risking my life each time.

Meanwhile, Mobius received an email:

"Dr. Mobius,

Having read your published papers, I've developed a strong interest in humanity's evolution. I deeply admire your work. Would you be interested in a bit of investment to help you establish a research facility? If so, let's find a time to talk."
