Chapter 180: Virgin Goddess!?
Chapter 180 - Virgin Goddess!?
"Virgin goddess?"
Eina's face lit up with a massive question mark as she processed Mahiro's words.
These requirements…
Are you sure you're looking for a familia?
Instead of something, well... weird?
"Your criteria sound... a bit unusual," Eina said, struggling to suppress a laugh.
"Honestly, Mahiro, I don't mean to criticize the gods, but what you're asking for is… a challenge."
She shook her head, gathering her thoughts. "The history of dungeon is ancient and hard to trace, but the gods' descent to the lower world is well-documented."
"More than a thousand years ago, the gods grew bored with their unchanging existence in the heavens."
"The vibrancy of life in the lower world attracted them, so they descended here, eager to experience it firsthand."
Eina explained how the gods, with their immense power, could easily disrupt the balance of the human world.
To prevent this, they made a pact: they would forgo their divine abilities, live among mortals as equals, and abide by mortal limitations.
Violating these rules would mean an immediate return to the heavens.
This allowed the gods to indulge in human life fully—food, friendships, work, and even illness.
For the gods, it was a novelty that had yet to fade even after centuries.
"However," Eina said, her tone growing wry, "you need to understand that these gods came here primarily for entertainment."
"They're a group of carefree, playful beings seeking fun above all else. Their private lives are… let's say, chaotic."
Eina sighed.
"Finding a goddess with a spotless reputation? That's like trying to reach the heavens."
"I mean, even if one exists, how could you possibly verify that?"
She looked at Mahiro with a mix of amusement and concern. "Let's set aside your, uh, unique requirements for now."
"You do realize that even if such a goddess exists, it doesn't guarantee you'll be able to join their familia, right?"
Eina coughed lightly to regain her composure. "Most established familias have strict requirements for new members."
"They're selective, and unless you meet their standards, they won't even consider you. In Orario, humans are the majority, but they're not necessarily the most gifted race."
"Many familias prefer to recruit talented individuals from other races."
Mahiro nodded thoughtfully. "Your reasoning makes sense, Eina."
Eina felt a glimmer of hope, thinking she'd managed to convince him. "Great! My suggestion is to try applying to various familias."
"I can compile a list of suitable ones for you based on what I know. Then, you can work your way through it."
But then, Mahiro smiled and added, "Thank you, but I'm a bit of a special case."
Eina froze. Her budding sense of accomplishment vanished in an instant.
"Mahiro! Did you even listen to what I just said?!"
Her composed expression crumbled as she stared at him in frustration.
Mahiro, still smiling, replied, "I understand your concerns, Eina. I know you're looking out for me, and I really appreciate it."
Eina's exasperated glare was enough to make her thoughts clear: 'No, you don't understand at all!'
Suddenly, a faint crackling sound filled the air.
Sparks of lightning flickered around Mahiro's hand.
Eina's eyes widened in shock. "What is that?!"
The half-elf leapt to her feet, staring at the arcs surrounding him.
"Is that... magic?"
Mahiro nodded calmly. "Yes, it's lightning magic."
He let the sparks fade and continued. "This is one of my magic."
Eina blinked, struggling to process this revelation.
"Wait, didn't you say you're not an adventurer?"
"I'm not," Mahiro said earnestly. "I wasn't lying to you about that."
"But—" Eina began, clearly perplexed.
"It's true that most humans can only use magic after receiving a falna from gods," Mahiro explained.
"However, my magic is... unique. I didn't need falna to use it."
Eina stared at him, her curiosity growing. "You're saying you've been able to use magic without falna? That's unheard of!"
Mahiro smiled but didn't elaborate further.
In Orario, strength was the ultimate measure of one's worth, and Mahiro's display had made an impression.
Even Eina couldn't help but feel intrigued.
