Chapter 62: Chapter 63: Save Me
Three minutes later.
"Sasuke!" Naruto heard the desperate cry. "Naruto, save me!"
Standing at a distance, Naruto smirked slightly. "But, Sasuke, didn't you just say not to save you?"
"I was wrong!" Sasuke shouted, his face twisted in panic. "Please, save me! I have a mission! I can't die here!"
Naruto tilted his head, ignoring Sasuke for a moment, and turned his attention to Orochimaru, who was chasing Sasuke on the back of a massive python.
Behind Naruto, Haruno Sakura trembled, paralyzed with fear. She could barely move, let alone fight.
Naruto formed a hand seal. "Ultra-Lightweight Rock Technique!"
Instantly, his body felt weightless, allowing him to float effortlessly into the air. He controlled his movement with precision, testing his newfound ability.
"So, this is the Ultra-Lightweight Rock Technique," Naruto thought as he adjusted his position mid-air. "It's almost magical."
He floated toward Orochimaru, his resolve solidifying. Sasuke, seeing Naruto approach, hurried toward him, though confusion clouded his face.
"Hey, Orochimaru," Naruto said politely, clasping his hands together as golden chains materialized around him. "Adamantine Sealing Chains—Modified Version!"
The chains sprang forward, striking the massive python.
Orochimaru's eyes narrowed. He recognized the technique immediately. "Adamantine Sealing Chains? And they're modified to break physical limits?" His voice dripped with intrigue. "Did you improve this yourself, Uzumaki Naruto? Impressive."
Without hesitation, Orochimaru abandoned the snake, leaving it to be entangled by Naruto's chains. The serpent thrashed violently as it fell, its enormous body shaking the forest floor.
Perched on a nearby branch, Orochimaru observed the scene, his expression grim. He hadn't anticipated such resistance.
Konoha's ANBU will be on high alert soon, Orochimaru thought. And Uzumaki Naruto…
Orochimaru could sense the immense, almost beast-like chakra radiating from Naruto. It was unsettling.
"This boy," Orochimaru murmured, his pale face unnervingly calm, "is far more dangerous than I expected."
Without wasting another moment, Orochimaru turned and retreated into the forest.
Watching him flee, Naruto blinked in surprise. He's running? That's it?
The sound of the system interrupted his thoughts.
Ding! Congratulations, Host! A-level Rating Achieved. Simulation Opportunity +3.
Naruto couldn't help but feel satisfied. "Only the S-level rating left," he muttered, feeling as if the world had suddenly shifted to an easier mode.
With Orochimaru gone, Naruto turned his attention to Sasuke and Sakura.
Sasuke was sprawled on a branch, utterly drained. Though injured, none of his wounds were fatal. Orochimaru hadn't marked him with the cursed seal, which was a relief.
"Are you okay, Sasuke?" Naruto asked.
Sasuke looked up at the sky, his expression conflicted. "Naruto… do I lack ninja talent?"
Naruto sighed. "Don't be ridiculous. You're a genius, Sasuke."
"But I couldn't even beat a Genin," Sasuke said bitterly.
Naruto shook his head. "That wasn't a Genin. That was Orochimaru, one of the Legendary Sannin. He's a Kage-level shinobi. It's normal that you couldn't defeat him."
Sasuke's eyes widened. "Kage-level? Why would someone like that be in the Chūnin Exams?"
Naruto explained Orochimaru's obsession with the Uchiha clan, stemming from his defeat by Itachi. Hearing this, Sasuke shivered. The thought of such a dangerous figure targeting him was chilling.
Still, the encounter lit a fire within Sasuke. Orochimaru was overwhelmingly powerful, yet Itachi had defeated him. The gap between himself and his brother felt insurmountable.
Exhausted, Sasuke leaned against the tree, trying to regain his strength.
Naruto suggested finding a safer place to rest. Sasuke and Sakura agreed, and the trio found a hollowed-out tree nearby.
Inside, Sasuke lay down to recover, while Sakura nervously kept watch.
"Do you hear that?" Sakura suddenly whispered, her face pale.
Naruto paused, straining his ears. Faint cries for help echoed through the forest.
"It's probably another team in trouble," Naruto said casually.
Sakura hesitated. "Should we do something?"
Naruto considered it. If his memory of the Chūnin Exam events served him right, this might be Karin Uzumaki. Saving her could be beneficial.
I should save her, Naruto decided. If nothing else, she might know Kagura's Mind Eye, a sensory ability he was eager to learn.
"I'll check it out," Naruto said.
Sakura's eyes widened in panic. "But, Naruto, what if something happens while you're gone? I can't protect Sasuke alone!"
"Relax," Naruto reassured her. "I won't take long."
As he stepped outside, Sasuke stirred. Half-asleep, he caught Sakura's words. "Protect the pillar"? What kind of weird game are they playing?
---
Naruto followed the cries, navigating the dense forest. Eventually, he found a red-haired girl being chased by a giant bear.
The girl stumbled, her short-sightedness making escape nearly impossible.
Naruto swooped in, picking her up effortlessly.
Startled, the girl flailed her arms and legs. "Let me go! I'm not tasty! I haven't bathed in three months!"
Naruto's face twisted in disbelief. "Is that… true?"
Hearing his voice, Karin's panic subsided. "No, it's not! Please, just save me!"
Naruto sighed, tightening his grip on her as he evaded the bear's swipes.
With a single hand seal, golden chains erupted from Naruto's back, restraining the beast. The bear roared in defiance but quickly succumbed to the technique.
Karin stared at him, her expression a mix of awe and confusion.
"You're safe now," Naruto said, setting her down.
She blinked, her red eyes wide with gratitude. "Thank you…"
"Name's Naruto," he said, smiling. "You?"
"Karin," she replied, still shaken.
Naruto sensed her Uzumaki chakra and thought, She's definitely worth saving.
"Stick with me," Naruto said. "I'll keep you safe."
For the first time in days, Karin felt a glimmer of hope.
