The next morning, Naruto strolled along the road on his way to school, mentally preparing for the system's latest mission: placing first in the upcoming combat exercise. Confident in his progress, he anticipated little trouble achieving the top spot.
As he walked, a familiar voice called out, interrupting his thoughts. "Uzumaki-san! Wait up!"
Naruto paused, turning to see Ino emerging from her family's flower shop with her schoolbag slung over her shoulder. "Ino?" he said, mildly surprised. "Didn't you have enough excitement yesterday?"
Ino joined him, smiling brightly. "I just realized we're taking the same route to school! Funny I never noticed before."
Naruto, used to the villagers' cold avoidance, was caught off guard by Ino's friendliness. "Aren't you afraid of me?" he asked, genuinely curious.
Ino shook her head, her blonde ponytail bouncing. "I thought about it last night. Naruto, you've got a quirky attitude, but that's way better than Sasuke. If we bothered him, he'd probably start yelling."
They continued their journey, their conversation a lively back-and-forth. Naruto, unaccustomed to the company, found himself oddly enjoying it. Soon, a familiar pink-haired figure joined them at an intersection: Haruno Sakura. She fell in step with Ino, their usual routine uninterrupted.
Haruno Sakura gave Ino a meaningful look, eyes narrowed as if to say, "Didn't I tell you Uzumaki-san might be interested?" Ino rolled her eyes and shot back a silent response, "Oh, please. He just happened to pass by!"
They continued their silent exchange as Naruto watched them, confused but amused. "What are you two talking about?"
Ino quickly raised her hands defensively. "Nothing about handsome boys, I swear!" Her outburst caught Naruto and Haruno Sakura by surprise, and they shared a chuckle as they resumed their walk.
The trio arrived at school together, with Naruto feeling a rare sense of camaraderie. Despite their trivial conversations, he realized that he didn't mind the company.

In the afternoon, the much-anticipated combat exercise session began. In their class, Uchiha Sasuke was the undisputed favorite. His top-ranking status in previous exercises had earned him widespread admiration, especially from the girls.
The rules were simple: students could freely challenge each other, with any remaining pairs being assigned by Iruka-sensei to ensure everyone had a match. Sasuke, a fierce competitor, had yet to be defeated, even besting the bold Inuzuka Kiba with ease.
Naruto, however, lingered quietly at the back of the crowd, standing beside Shino Aburame. As the session neared its end, only four students had yet to fight: Naruto, Sasuke, Shino, and Shikamaru.
Shikamaru glanced around and quickly struck a deal with Shino, preferring to avoid the stronger opponents. "Want to go up against each other and get this over with?" he asked.
Shino nodded, and they both stepped forward. Their match was lackluster, with both students holding back. Eventually, Shikamaru intentionally left an opening, allowing Shino to score a win. Iruka announced Shino as the victor, albeit with a hint of frustration, recognizing their lack of effort.
That left Naruto and Sasuke as the final contenders. As Iruka announced their names, the room buzzed with excitement, especially among Sasuke's admirers.
Shikamaru covered his ears, grimacing as the fan-girls erupted into cheers. Sasuke, his trademark cold expression intact, looked dismissively at Naruto. "Is there any point to this?"
Everyone understood Sasuke's attitude. The gap in skill between him and Naruto was assumed to be vast. But Iruka, determined to give Naruto a chance, encouraged Sasuke to proceed. "This experience will be valuable for your training as future ninjas, Uchiha-san," he explained.
Naruto, who had already moved to the center of the field, watched Sasuke calmly. Sasuke, noticing Naruto's lack of fear, felt his pride pricked. "You'll regret it," he sneered, attempting to intimidate his opponent. Naruto only offered a small, mysterious smile in response.
With a sigh, Iruka began the match. "Remember, it's about growth, not grudge. Begin!"
The girls cheered as Sasuke charged at Naruto, intending to finish the fight quickly and decisively. In his mind, the superiority of the Uchiha clan was unquestionable.
Watching his approach, Naruto was unimpressed. "So popular… but so slow."
Since his recent physical enhancement, Naruto's reflexes were sharper, and Sasuke's movements seemed almost sluggish. With his heightened senses and advanced taijutsu skills, Naruto easily spotted numerous weaknesses in Sasuke's form.
To onlookers, Sasuke's speed created a blur as he moved in to attack. Haruno Sakura and Ino were among the loudest supporters, both oblivious to Naruto's confidence. Only Hinata, observing quietly from the sidelines, seemed concerned for him.
Unbeknownst to Naruto, Hinata, out of worry, activated her Byakugan to keep a closer watch on the match.
The collision was swift. Sasuke launched a high kick, but Naruto deftly sidestepped, countering with a well-placed block and pushing Sasuke slightly off-balance. Sasuke, surprised, reset his stance, his gaze sharpening as he realized he'd underestimated his opponent.
Naruto used this moment to throw Sasuke off further, exploiting Sasuke's ego. "Is this all the Uchiha pride amounts to?" he taunted, his voice calm but biting.
Enraged, Sasuke went on the offensive, launching a series of jabs and kicks. Naruto continued dodging effortlessly, making Sasuke's attacks look reckless and uncoordinated. After evading a few more blows, Naruto saw an opening. He seized it, sweeping Sasuke's legs out from under him, sending him sprawling to the ground.
The spectators gasped, the usual cool, composed Sasuke suddenly appearing vulnerable. Sasuke shot back to his feet, glowering at Naruto with renewed determination. His competitive spirit surged, pushing him to summon every ounce of his strength to turn the tide.
But Naruto was unfazed. With newfound physical strength and refined techniques at his disposal, he maintained his calm, parrying Sasuke's efforts with ease. Every attempt Sasuke made, Naruto countered, strategically guiding Sasuke into exhausting his energy.
Seeing Sasuke's frustration mount, Naruto decided to end it. As Sasuke lunged forward one last time, Naruto sidestepped and gently but firmly placed his hand on Sasuke's shoulder, flipping him over his own momentum and pinning him to the ground. Sasuke struggled, but Naruto's grip was firm.
Iruka stepped forward, raising his hand. "The match is over. Uzumaki Naruto wins!"
The room was silent for a moment, shock evident on everyone's faces. It was unheard of—Naruto, usually an underdog, had decisively defeated the class's top fighter. Slowly, a murmur began to rise, and the students erupted into excited chatter, discussing Naruto's unexpected victory.
Haruno Sakura and Ino exchanged surprised looks, their admiration for Sasuke momentarily overshadowed by Naruto's impressive display. Even Hinata, quietly relieved, couldn't hide her small smile.
Naruto released Sasuke, offering a hand to help him up. Sasuke glared at it, pride wounded, and got to his feet on his own. However, despite his anger, a spark of respect for Naruto's skill flickered in his eyes.
As the students filed out of the training grounds, Naruto reflected on the match with a sense of satisfaction. Not only had he completed his mission, but he'd also made a strong impression on his classmates. Today, he wasn't the outcast or a source of gossip—today, he was the boy who beat Uchiha Sasuke, and for the first time, he felt the recognition of his peers.
Little did Naruto realize that this victory marked a turning point. The attention he garnered wouldn't end here; it was only the beginning of his journey from the underdog to the hero. And as he walked back to the classroom, he was already wondering what new challenge awaited him next.
