Chapter 23: Chapter 24: New Training Begins
The next day, after finishing his classes in the morning, Mu Yue headed to the Hokage Building.
As expected, Sarutobi Hiruzen, being the Third Hokage, couldn't possibly stay in the school office waiting for him all the time. So, he told Mu Yue that if he had the intention to take on the tutoring job, he should come to the Hokage Building.
When Mu Yue reached the floor of the Hokage's office, he was briefly stopped, but as he had anticipated, he simply said he was sent by the Third Hokage, and they let him pass.
Mu Yue knocked on the wooden door of the Hokage's office.
"Ah, Mu Yue, come in," Hiruzen's voice came from inside.
Mu Yue opened the door and was surprised to find not only the Third Hokage but also Minato there.
Minato, seeing Mu Yue enter, was equally surprised. He hadn't expected to see his new neighbor in the Hokage's office so soon after their meeting yesterday.
"This is Mu Yue, one of our ninja school's teachers. His teaching ability is exceptional; even I'm tempted to ask him to tutor Asuma," Hiruzen said with a smile, setting down his pipe to make the introduction.
Noticing the exchange of glances between the two men, Hiruzen asked, "Minato, do you two know each other?"
Minato nodded and replied, "We're neighbors. Mu Yue's house is right next to mine."
"That's quite a coincidence," Hiruzen said with a chuckle. "Mu Yue, Minato, you should spend some time talking to each other. You're both excellent ninjas in your respective fields."
"Not at all, I'm just doing my best," Mu Yue replied modestly.
Minato also made a modest comment before excusing himself. The Hokage's office was not really the best place for casual conversation.
Mu Yue, too, agreed with this and didn't engage in further conversation with Minato.
"Third Hokage, after giving it some serious thought, I believe I can spare a few hours on the weekend to tutor Asuma," Mu Yue said, giving his answer.
"Good. With you tutoring him, I won't have to worry about Asuma's development anymore," Hiruzen said, his voice filled with trust in Mu Yue.
"I'll do my best to meet your expectations, Third Hokage, and fully commit to tutoring Asuma," Mu Yue said with a grateful expression, showing he took the tutoring role seriously.
After some standard discussion about compensation, Hiruzen offered a generous rate of 2,000 ryo per hour, with a total of 8 hours over the weekend, paid weekly.
Mu Yue decided on a schedule starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 5 p.m.
Since it was Friday, and Mu Yue had no classes in the afternoon, he headed to the usual riverbank where he trained. There, he found Shisui practicing Fire Style jutsu with one of Mu Yue's shadow clones.
Since achieving first place in the class without any pressure after the recent exam, Shisui had been following Mu Yue's advice to use shadow clones for school and then come here to train during school hours.
When Mu Yue arrived, he dismissed the shadow clone, and Shisui, sensing Mu Yue's presence, stopped his practice and greeted him. "Mu Yue-sensei."
Mu Yue nodded and handed Shisui a handkerchief with a smile. "Take a break and wipe off your sweat."
Shisui thanked him, taking the handkerchief to wipe off the sweat from his forehead and neck, before sitting next to Mu Yue under a large tree.
Mu Yue then assessed Shisui.
Name: Uchiha Shisui
Chakra: 580
Potential: SS-
Compared to a month ago, Shisui had made significant progress in his chakra reserves, partly due to increased training intensity and his body gradually maturing. His progress would likely accelerate even more in the future.
However, Mu Yue was not entirely satisfied with the assessment panel, as it was too basic—only showing chakra and potential.
After a brief rest, Mu Yue spoke. "Shisui, from today onward, we're changing your training plan. You'll start learning the Body Flicker Technique and work on improving your chakra control."
Since Shisui had earned his reputation during the Third Shinobi World War for his mastery of the Body Flicker Technique, Mu Yue thought it was appropriate to start teaching him this technique.
"Okay," Shisui nodded, not hesitating to follow Mu Yue's instructions. After a month of learning, he trusted Mu Yue's teaching ability completely.
The Body Flicker Technique isn't a specific jutsu, but rather a category of techniques that enable instant movement. High-level space-time ninjutsu like the Flying Thunder God Technique and Lightning Release Chakra Mode fall under this category, but Mu Yue didn't know those. The Body Flicker Technique he taught was the most basic kind—concentrating chakra in the legs and using it to explosively increase speed, though excessive use could lead to muscle fatigue and injury.
Although it was only a D-rank taijutsu, it was incredibly practical in battle, whether for surprise attacks or retreats.
Shisui's natural talent didn't disappoint Mu Yue. Even though he hadn't activated his Sharingan yet, his talent was so strong that after Mu Yue demonstrated and explained the technique, Shisui learned it instantly.
After school, Maito Guy and Obito arrived at the training spot.
"You two, don't rush into training just yet. I've made a special training plan for the next two months," Mu Yue called out to them.
Obito, hearing Mu Yue's gentle voice, thought Mu Yue was about to teach them some new and powerful jutsu. He looked at Mu Yue eagerly and asked, "Mu Yue-sensei, are we going to learn a new, powerful jutsu?"
"You haven't even fully mastered Great Fireball and Great Dragon Fire, what's the point of learning new jutsu?" Mu Yue shook his head.
"Then what's this special training?" Obito asked, a bit disappointed that there was no new jutsu.
"This training is to help you beat Hinata Homura in the next final exam," Mu Yue smiled as he explained.
"Obito, your taijutsu is too weak. Even against Hinata Homura, you wouldn't last; if you faced Guy, you wouldn't even be able to use any jutsu. You need to strengthen your physical training."
Obito wanted to argue, but he realized he couldn't refute it. He had lost every time to both Hinata Homura and Guy, just as Mu Yue said.
Ninja battles may sometimes look like mage duels, but if you rely too much on ninjutsu and neglect physical training, you'll be the first to die in a real battle. Even powerful ninjas usually have strong physical skills to back them up.
"As for you, Guy, you need to strengthen your strengths. You need to be faster—fast enough that even if Hinata Homura's Byakugan sees your moves, they won't be able to react in time."
Hinata Homura's Byakugan is strong, but Guy doesn't need to outrun his sight, just his reaction speed.
"From now on, after every hour of training, you'll spar for half an hour using only taijutsu, no ninjutsu allowed."
"What? No ninjutsu?" Obito was stunned. He already couldn't win, and now he wasn't even allowed to use jutsu. Wasn't that just asking to be beaten?
"If you don't want to be beaten by Hinata Homura again, then stop using ninjutsu," Mu Yue replied.
Obito thought about all the boasting he had done in front of Rin, and although he could already see the tough training ahead, he could only nod begrudgingly.
The new round of training began, and Mu Yue couldn't help but wonder if this special training would trigger any reward for his disciples' progress. So far, he hadn't triggered any rewards and didn't know how much the disciples' strength had to improve for that to happen.
