Chapter 92: Star Chaser's Revenge Plan

"Mm!"

Martha woke from her coma to a sharp pain in her head.

It felt like being pricked by needles, and her body was inexplicably exhausted.

"Mom?"

Seeing Martha awake, Eric sighed in relief.

He walked over and held his mother's slightly cold hand, "How do you feel? Anywhere uncomfortable?"

"I'm fine."

Martha lay on the bed, calming herself and clearing her foggy mind.

"So, what happened to me?"

She licked her dry lips and asked Eric.

"Nothing, you're safe now, Mom."

Eric comforted her, gently patting her hand.

He had just used the Cosmic Staff to clear the cosmic radiation from the Kryptonian spaceship out of her body, allowing her suppressed life force to return.

Her previously stopped heart started beating normally, and her breathing gradually resumed.

"You saved me, Eric?"

Although she had just regained consciousness and her mind was a bit confused, Martha clearly remembered being on the verge of death.

Her consciousness had drifted away, her heartbeat had slowed, and her life flashed before her eyes like a slideshow.

Even though she had no particular religious belief, she knew this was her final moment.

After sinking into darkness, she woke up again with no doctors or nurses around, only her son beside her.

Even a slow-witted person would realize something strange was happening, especially someone with two super-powered sons.

"I don't know."

Eric didn't mention the Cosmic Staff. "I tried to neutralize the energy in your body. I didn't know what the outcome would be, but it seems like it worked, you're awake!"

Martha smiled weakly, still feeling frail but holding Eric's hand. "Eric, I don't know how you did it, but thank you."

She had Eric help her sit up, pulling his hand to her face to feel her son's warmth.

"Thank you, Eric. I almost left you, Clark, and Jonathan. I was so scared of that feeling."

Her tears of newfound life almost fell. "I love you, Clark, and Jonathan. I'm so glad not to be separated from you!"

Eric, moved by his mother's emotions, let his usually stoic expression soften.

"No matter what happens, Clark and I will never leave you."

Eric comforted her softly.

Outside the ward, Dr. Helen, worried about Eric's emotions, had just opened the door and was stunned by what she saw.

"How is this possible?"

Seeing Martha in Eric's arms, Dr. Helen was wide-eyed and rooted to the spot.

How could someone who was dead come back to life?

Snapping out of her shock and disbelief, Helen immediately performed her duties as a doctor.

She called for medical staff and began examining Martha.

Using the stethoscope hanging around her neck, she checked Martha's heart.

Heartbeat, pulse, breathing—all normal.

"What happened?!"

Helen cast a puzzled look at Eric.

Since he entered this room, strange things had happened.

Bright light, shockwaves, and now the revival of a declared dead person.

She couldn't find a reasonable explanation other than suspecting Eric.

Recalling Clark's unusual blood, fear showed in her eyes as she looked at Eric.

Could he and Clark be non-human?

"I don't know, I just felt like I slept and woke up."

Martha glanced at Eric, then smiled at Helen. "Maybe, as you said, a miracle happened here, like how I couldn't get pregnant but suddenly did."

After leaving the ward, Helen hadn't taken more than two steps when Eric called out to her.

"Dr. Helen."

Eric walked over, "I'd like to ask you for a favor."

"What?"

"It's simple. I hope you won't tell anyone about Martha's heart stopping."

"Sorry, I can't do that."

Helen took a deep breath and said seriously, "It's recorded in the medical report. I can't alter that."

"Uh-huh."

Eric nodded. "Then could you give me Clark's blood sample?"

Altering or destroying medical records was easy for him.

"I..."

Helen hesitated. She knew how valuable Clark's blood was and the chaos it would cause if the public found out.

Seeing Helen's hesitant expression, Eric took a step closer.

Helen, feeling tense, backed away.

Ignoring her reaction, Eric continued in a calm tone, "I'm sure you've tested the blood and know its unique properties. So, I think the best solution is to leave things as they are, don't you?"

Eric's intense gaze gave her a sense of pressure and a bit of fear.

"The world isn't ready for the truth you discovered, Dr. Helen."

Eric continued coldly, "So give me the blood. It's the best solution."

Helen hesitated for a while, then nodded.

She knew if she didn't hand it over, this guy wouldn't treat her kindly.

Trusting her intuition, they entered the lab, and Helen handed a vial of Clark's blood to Eric.

"So...you're like Clark?"

Turning over a lab report, Helen asked Eric.

"What?"

"I tested Clark's blood. The hemoglobin is abnormally low, but the blood is highly concentrated and aggressive. Most importantly, I found substances I've never seen before."

"I heard you're Lex's fiancée, right?"

Eric didn't answer but asked her instead.

"What does that have to do with my question?"

"The connection is if I were you, I'd keep that lab report safe. I know Lex..."

Eric whispered in her ear, "He doesn't trust anyone, even you, his fiancée."

Leaving Helen unsettled, Eric left the lab.

In a quiet corner, his eyes turned red, aiming at Clark's blood sample.

But in the next moment, he extinguished his heat vision and put away the sample.

He changed his mind.

This kind of thing, rather than destroying it, was better kept with him.

Just as he put away Clark's blood, he saw Jonathan rush from his pickup truck towards the hospital.

Eric immediately went to meet him.

In the ward, seeing his wife safe, Jonathan breathed a sigh of relief.

"I got a call from the hospital. The doctor told me, Martha, you..."

Sitting by her bed, holding her hand, Jonathan calmed his excitement and asked, puzzled.

"You should ask Eric, he saved me!"

Martha patted her husband's hand and smiled. "Though I don't know how he did it."

"It's the spaceship."

Eric told the puzzled Jonathan, "Maybe my body was affected by the spaceship's radiation, giving me abilities similar to it. I think... that might explain why mom's body healed when I touched her."

Though the explanation was flimsy, Jonathan didn't question it, just nodded.

He knew the reason couldn't be that simple and that Eric had secrets.

Compared to Clark's rebelliousness and immaturity, he trusted Eric to handle things well.

This was why he rarely questioned Eric.

"Clark is still lying at home, Eric."

Jonathan told his younger son, "You should check on him. I'll stay here with your mom."

"Understood."

Eric nodded and walked out of the ward.

Leaving the ward, he saw Dr. Helen in a blue medical coat waiting in the corridor.

"Maybe you're right."

Helen handed Eric a lab report. "Sometimes we have to bury the truth, especially when people aren't ready for it."

Eric took the report, seeing it was an analysis of Clark's blood.

"I still have a complex clinical report to fill out, which will take a lot of time, so... excuse me!"

Helen nodded to Eric and left.

Eric stood there, lost in thought, watching her leave.

It seemed this woman played more than just a doctor and Lex's fiancée.

Returning to the farm from the medical center, Eric found Clark asleep on the living room sofa.

Clark's body was hot, his brow furrowed, looking weak and listless.

Shaking his head, Eric used the Cosmic Staff to remove the radiation from Clark's body.

Half an hour later, Clark woke from his sleep.

His head was a bit dizzy, and he felt utterly exhausted.

"Awake?"

Eric's voice came from the other end of the living room.

Clark looked up to see him coming down the stairs.

"How long did I sleep, Eric?"

"About three to four hours. Glad to see you're still alive, Clark."

Eric walked to Clark, sarcastically greeting his older brother.

"I..."

Clark stood up, feeling the power return to his body.

"I'm healed? Eric, was it you?"

"In a sense, yes."

Eric poured himself a glass of lemonade. "You and mom are fine now."

"But how did you do it?"

Clark asked in disbelief.

He thought he needed the spaceship to heal, but Eric had managed everything.

"A sort of magic."

Eric drank his lemonade, replying casually.

"But I heard you say that kind of thing can't be used freely."

Clark remembered when they destroyed the Metropolis Owl's nest together and Eric got the black magic book.

He thought Eric used black magic at a great cost to save them.

Thinking about the potential backlash from black magic made him feel guilty.

"So, Eric, what did you lose?"

Clark asked after a moment of silence.

"That's not important."

Sensing his brother's emotion, Eric shook his head. "Regarding life, we should be bold because we'll eventually lose it. Clark, I'm not hurt or affected by any magic backlash."

Eric looked at Clark. "What you should worry about now is how to explain your blood to Dr. Helen."

Giving Clark a new worry, he turned and walked away.

Placing the blanket back on the sofa, Clark watched Eric's back, feeling a warmth in his heart.

No matter what, Eric had saved him.

Wanting to say "thank you," but by the time he came back to his senses, Eric had already disappeared up the stairs.

"Whoo!"

Clark exhaled, shaking his arm, feeling a bit down.

If he couldn't thank Eric immediately and in person, he felt very rude.

Back in his room, Eric didn't notice Clark's thoughts.

He took

out his notebook, a pen, and began to record his thoughts.

Eric had a habit of recording important things in a notebook to help him reflect and plan better.
