chapter 25
Episode 25
“Class S?
It was an S-class dagger item. It made Hee-na forget about her brother for a moment and her hands trembled.
“Hee-na’s brother is in trouble, so we can’t leave like this.”
Kang jin-hyeon knelt on one knee and looked at Hee-na with wide eyes.
“I want you to sit here and count slowly to three hundred, and I’m giving you this dagger just in case, but you’ll never have to use it.”
“Hunter Kang jin-hyeon?”
“I’ll make quick work of this, and if you hear anything unpleasant, you’d better not look back.”
“What?”
Before Hee-na could fully comprehend his words, Kang jin-hyeon stood up.
“Don’t worry.”
And with that, he disappeared into the shadows for a moment.
At the same time, there was a sound of something popping.
“Kuk!”
“Thud!”
“Ow!”
A series of agonizing screams pierced the air. Hee-Na squatted down with her back against a rock and listened, squinting through her eyes.
“What’s going on?
She was shocked, then sad, then panicked, then alone. So many emotions rushed through me so quickly that I froze.
“Intruder! Stop him!”
It wasn’t until she heard someone shouting that Kang was an intruder that Hee-Na regained her composure.
“I went into the middle of enemy territory to save my brother.
Gratitude and worry mingled. Hee-na’s ears perked up as she clutched the S-class protective dagger Kang jin-hyeon had given her.
He said he’d be back when she counted to 300 slowly.
It sounded like a bluff, but the sounds of battle and people screaming behind him made it sound like it wasn’t.
“How the hell are they taking on all those people?
Worried and curious, Hee-Na debated whether or not to turn around.
She didn’t think long. She heard her brother’s voice.
“Helpers! Let’s go and help!”
His voice echoed through the open-pit mine.
Kang jin-hyeon had told him not to look back, but he couldn’t help but hear it. His love for his only remaining blood relative was too deep.
Hee-na hid behind a rock and watched the situation.
“Brother!
He was swinging his pickaxe, leaving his fallen comrade to the others.
The old pickaxe seemed a poor match for the Watchers’ powerful weapons, but he was skillful in his attacks.
“Come on!”
“Let’s get out of here!”
Hee-na’s brother made the first move, and the laborers scrambled to their feet. Their bodies were exhausted from fatigue, but the hope of escape made them stronger.
“Where is Hunter Kang jin-hyeon?
Meanwhile, Hee-Na’s eyes darted around, looking for Kang jin-hyeon.
But he wasn’t easily spotted as an S-class Combat Hunter. Instead, there was a pool of damp blood in his wake.
He looked like the Grim Reaper.
“It’s like he’s reaching out from the shadows and crushing people.
It was a gruesome sight. Once a shadow touched someone’s back, they died a quick death.
Heads would explode, or bodies would crumble into black ash. The power of the same person was unbelievable.
It was like a computer graphic in a movie, and it didn’t even feel real.
“No! I don’t want to die……!”
“Help me!”
“Ugh!”
The open-pit mine quickly turned into an abyss. As the dozen or so armed Hunters were pinned down, fear filled their enemies, and hope-filled their allies.
“We can get out!”
The slaves pounced on the Watchers’ backs.
Hee-Na’s brother was among them, and they overpowered the enemies. Hee-Na watched the scene with trepidation, afraid that he might be hurt.
“I wish I could do something to help!
But as a D-class non-combatant with normal stats, she would be more of a burden than a help if she went over there.
She could only watch the chaos from the sidelines.
“Huh?
It was then that she noticed a sniper aiming at her brother.
The sniper was hiding not far from Hee-na, shooting at the rioters one by one.
It was not surprising that he pointed the butt of his gun at Hee-Na’s brother, who was actively participating in the situation.
The muzzle of the gun was pointed at him, and his fingers twitched as if they were ready to move.
And it all seemed like slow motion to Hee-Na.
“No!
Hee-Na screamed inside.
She needed something to stop the sniper. At the very least, she had to deflect the bullets.
As soon as the thought occurred to her, her hands moved of their own accord. There was no time to think.
“Brother!”
Hee-Na threw the S-class Protective Dagger in her hand with all her might. At the same time, a system window popped up in front of her eyes.
Sae-ae-ak!
The dagger left her hand and flew away with a sonic boom.
The speed, strength, and accuracy were impossible for a stat line of 8 Health, 5 Strength, and 6 Dexterity.
It was the effect of the ‘Exterminate Pests’ skill modifier.
“Black!”
The sniper aiming at his brother was caught in the temple by a flying dagger handle and spun around. His body shuddered a few times before he passed out.
“I did it!”
Hee-Na clenched her fists in joy at having saved her brother’s life.
Of course, in hindsight, she realized that what she had thrown was an S-class item, but an S-class item was less valuable than her brother’s life.
“What kind of girl is this?”
Meanwhile, a harsh voice rang out from behind Hee-Na’s delighted back. A chill ran down my spine.
“Hmph.”
Turning around, she saw the armed man standing there. He seemed to be one of the group that had scattered to escape Kang jin-hyeon and the laborers.
“You’re with that monster, too?”
The rough man crossed his sharp blade. At the unexpected threat, Hee-na froze like a mouse before a snake.
“What are you doing?
He had just thrown away the dagger Kang jin-hyeon had given him to protect himself.
When her brother was in danger, her body moved of its own accord, but now that she was in danger herself, her mind went white and her body stiffened.
“Let’s get him out of here!”
A voice urged, and a blade flashed. Hee-Na squeezed her eyes shut, anticipating the pain to come.
“At least my brother is safe, so it’s okay!
With that thought, she covered her face with her hands.
There was a sharp whistle of wind, followed by a scream from the terminal horse.
“Boom!”
And then I heard the sound of something crashing to the ground. It sounded like a dismembered body rolling.
“Uh…….
Hee-na sat upright, unable to take her hands away from her eyes. She felt a warm hand on her shoulder.
“Are you okay?”
A familiar voice asked. Hee-Na pushed Booth’s hand away and looked forward.
“Hunter Kang jin-hyeon…….”
It was Kang jin-hyeon, his clothes stained with blood she didn’t recognize.
“Where is the dagger I gave you, and how did you end up so defenseless?”
Kang jin-hyeon grabbed Hee-na by the shoulders and spun her around, hiding his blood-spattered clothes. He didn’t want her to see the bloodied sight of him slaughtering people.
He was reluctant to let civilians see his brutal hands. He was afraid it would make him look like a monster, not a human being.
But Hee-na didn’t find him frightening. She realized that the faint concern in his eyes was directed at her.
“The dagger…… someone tried to attack my brother, so I threw it at him. I didn’t lose it, it’s over there. If it’s scratched, I’ll make it up to you somehow.”
She felt intensely guilty that she’d used an S-class item as a chandol instead.
Hee-na pointed a finger at the stunned sniper.
“I’m in a hurry because of him, so stop…….”
Kang jin-hyeon looked down at Hee-na, who was acting like a puppy, and let out a low sigh.
“I didn’t say that because of a few items. The lives of innocent people like Hee-na are more important than items.”
He reached out a hand and pulled Hee-Na to her feet.
“Now that we’ve sorted out the situation, we’re going to gather the forced laborers and head out the gate together.”
Hee-na followed Kang jin-hyeon down the slope. The people recognized in hindsight that it was Kang jin-hyeon, the S-class Hunter, who had saved them.
“It’s Kang jin-hyeon!”
“Did he come to save us?”
“Who is the person behind Kang Jin Hyun?”
The shabbily dressed people stared at Hee-na and Kang jin-hyeon in disbelief.
However, they didn’t seem to have the courage to come closer. This was because they had seen Kang jin-hyeon’s creepy inaction right in front of them.
Hee-na hurriedly walked away, oblivious to the stares. The only person she could see was her brother, who was looking rather thin.
“Brother!”
As she ran out calling for her brother, the man examining his companion’s wounds looked up. His eyes widened.
“Hee-na, what are you doing here……? No, am I dreaming?”
At the sight of him, Hee-na burst out in frustration and screamed.
“Hey, Lee Hee-won, you idiot! You’re the one who should be here! You’re supposed to be making money, so why are you staying here like this?”
“Hee, is that Hee-na?”
Lee Hee-won, Hee-na’s brother, stammered, and Kang jin-hyeon raised his eyebrows in surprise at Hee-na’s excited Chihuahua-like behavior.
Hee-na grabbed her rag-clad brother by the scruff of the neck and shook him, crying.
“I’m sorry you were worried, Hee-na.”
Hee-won gently reached out and patted her sister’s back.
At the familiar touch that had soothed her since she was a little girl, Hee-na stopped and burst into tears.
