16. Coach, They’re Charging With the Ball!
9 a.m.
On a regular day, Ling Ning would already be on her way to the café, but today she was lounging comfortably at home, watching TV. Today was her day off, so she could afford to take things easy.
“Ye Ye, hurry up and get up for breakfast. Don’t you still want to go play at your friend’s house?” Ling Ning said, slightly exasperated as she looked at Ling Ye, who was stubbornly staying in bed.
Upon hearing her mother’s words, Ling Ye stirred slightly, burying her face into Ling Ning’s pillow and taking a deep breath—her “Mom energy” was replenished. Then she slowly rolled off the bed. In truth, she had been awake for a while but simply didn’t want to get up.
Not long after, Ling Ye emerged from the bathroom after washing up, her face looking miserable as she stared at the white porridge and pickled vegetables on the dining table. She despised porridge—there was no flavor to it at all.
Seeing Ling Ye just standing there, not touching her breakfast, Ling Ning smiled helplessly and said, “Hurry up and eat. You can’t be picky, you know, and wasting food is not allowed either.”
Ling Ye eyed the porridge for a moment before picking up the bowl and walking over to Ling Ning. “Mom, feed me,” she demanded.
“You’re big enough to eat on your own now, aren’t you?”
“I don’t care. If Mom doesn’t feed me, I won’t eat.”
“There’s just no helping you, is there?” Ling Ning sighed as she took the bowl and began feeding Ling Ye with practiced ease. It was clear that she had done this many times before.
Ling Ye snuggled into Ling Ning’s arms, enjoying the comforting treatment. When her mother fed her, even the blandest food somehow became appealing.

After breakfast, the two headed to Qin Qing’s house. It was Qin Sirou, the adorable little girl, who answered the door. She greeted Ling Ning sweetly with a “Hello, Sister Ling Ning!” before dragging Ling Ye inside.
Upon entering, Ling Ning noticed that Qin Qing seemed to have just gotten up. She was lounging on the couch in a thin silk nightgown, her hair slightly tousled, giving her a lazy and relaxed look.
“Qin… Sister Qin Qing, did you just wake up?” Ling Ning stammered, her eyes glued to the floor, focusing intently on the patterns of the tiles. Just moments earlier, she had caught sight of something rather unmentionable—an inexplicable, intriguing bulge that left quite an impression on a hot-blooded young girl like herself.
Seeing how flustered Ling Ning was, Qin Qing smiled wickedly, sneaking up behind her. In a teasing tone, she whispered, “Oh? Is Ling Ning shy? Why would you be shy~?”
Feeling the softness press against her back, Ling Ning’s entire body tensed. She stuttered, “N-no, I’m not.”
After a while, Qin Qing gently stroked Ling Ning’s hair, a hint of concern in her voice. “You have pretty good hair, but you haven’t really been taking care of it, have you? Look at these split ends. No way, I can’t let you keep mistreating your hair like this. Wait right here while I change.”
With that, Qin Qing hurried off to her room to change clothes, leaving Ling Ning sitting dazed on the couch, completely lost about what Qin Qing intended.
Once that soft presence disappeared from behind her, Ling Ning let out a sigh of relief, though she couldn’t help but feel a bit reluctant as well. Honestly, Ling Ning did have a thing for the “married woman” type.
It didn’t take long for Qin Qing to emerge, now dressed in casual attire. She called out to Ling Ning, “Alright, let’s head out.”
“Where are we going?” Ling Ning asked, confused.
“You’ll see when we get there.”

They ended up at a fancy hair salon. Ling Ning lay in the chair, her face showing a look of resignation while a beautiful stylist busied herself with her hair. Qin Qing sat beside her, smiling all the while, occasionally discussing hair care tips with the stylist.
At first, Ling Ning had resisted the idea of getting a hairstyle done. She wasn’t fond of fancy hairstyles; even in her previous life, she had always kept her hair short for convenience. She had even been contemplating cutting her long hair short again. But Qin Qing had used her status as the boss to pressure her, threatening not to pay her if she didn’t comply. So Ling Ning, devoid of any dignity, had bowed to the power of her employer and obediently sat in the chair, allowing the stylist to do as she pleased.
“One day, I’ll be on equal footing with the boss, maybe even overthrow her,” Ling Ning silently vowed to herself.
“All done.”
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, it was over. Ling Ning felt like her stomach was about to cave in. If she had known it would take this long, she would have eaten something more filling for breakfast instead of porridge.
Ling Ning took a closer look at her reflection. Her hairstyle hadn’t changed much—it was still long and straight, but her bangs were now trimmed a bit shorter, making her look slightly more attractive. She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she did feel she looked a bit better. Besides styling, she had also undergone some treatments, which explained why it had taken so long.
Regardless of Ling Ning’s own feelings about it, Qin Qing was clearly very satisfied. She nodded approvingly at Ling Ning’s new look and proceeded to lecture her about various hair care tips.
As they were leaving, Qin Qing bought a bunch of hair care products and tossed them to Ling Ning, calling it “employee welfare.” Ling Ning had no idea what half of the products were for.

By the time Ling Ning left the hair salon, it was well past lunchtime. Qin Qing thought for a moment before taking Ling Ning to a nearby restaurant to have lunch, and they also got some takeout for the two little ones at home.
When they returned to the house, Ling Ye and Qin Sirou were still watching the magical girl anime. Just how many episodes did this show have? Every time she came over, they were watching it.
Curious, Ling Ning asked Ling Ye, and the answer she received was in the four digits. Seriously? That’s enough to rival Naruto, One Piece, or Detective Conan! How much filler did it take to drag out a series that long?
That afternoon, Ling Ning had her first modeling job, but before the work began, there was one more task—makeup.
Qin Qing was meticulously applying makeup to Ling Ning’s face, explaining the purpose of each product and how to use the various tools. Although Ling Ning felt that she might never use this knowledge herself, she still paid close attention and made an effort to remember everything Qin Qing was teaching.
For the first time, Ling Ning realized that makeup had such depth. As Qin Qing explained, she found herself getting absorbed in the details, even asking questions when something wasn’t clear.
Seeing Ling Ning’s serious attitude, Qin Qing was more than happy to share her knowledge. No matter what Ling Ning asked, Qin Qing answered. The two of them ended up forming a perfectly harmonious partnership.
Because of their back-and-forth, the already lengthy makeup process took even longer. But Qin Qing didn’t mind, especially since most of the photos would be taken indoors anyway.
When the makeup was finally done, Ling Ning looked at herself in the mirror and noticed that she looked a bit more mature, and also… more alluring. Yes, alluring was the word. Ling Ning couldn’t quite understand why she felt that way. She casually struck a few poses and found herself surprisingly taken aback—no wonder people called makeup one of the four great sorceries.
