How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

22. This Is for Scratching an Itch

“Ye Ye, Mom’s going to take you to the supermarket. Is there anything you want?” Ling Ning asked Ling Ye with a big smile. She held in her hand her advance salary from Luo Xiaoning, and looking at the crisp red banknotes made her feel more satisfied than she could describe.

Ling Ning never imagined she’d ever be so content with such a small amount of money. In her past life, it wouldn’t have even counted as pocket change.

“Really? Then, can I have ice cream?” Ling Ye looked up at her with big, shiny eyes.

Ling Ning ruffled Ling Ye’s hair, smiling gently. “Of course, you can~ But just one, okay? Eating too much will give you a tummy ache.” Ling Ning found herself liking the feeling of patting Ling Ye’s head more and more. The softness was simply too satisfying.

“Yay! ╰(*°▽°*)╯” Ling Ye cheered, then threw herself into Ling Ning’s arms, planting a sloppy kiss on her cheek.

Ling Ning sighed helplessly as she wiped her cheek. Lately, this little girl seemed to have taken a liking to kissing her face—she hadn’t been like this before!

The two of them headed to the supermarket. It had been ages since Ling Ning last went shopping in one. Ever since she discovered the convenience of online shopping, she barely ever went to a supermarket. After all, having things delivered straight to your door was a lot more convenient.

Because of limited funds, Ling Ning had already planned what she needed to buy and was determined not to make any unnecessary purchases. Well, probably…

She grabbed a shopping cart and headed straight to the toiletries section. Their toothbrushes had been used for quite a while and needed replacing. The toothpaste was also running out. Ling Ning hoped there might be a promotion that bundled a free toothbrush with toothpaste—that would be ideal. What? You think this kind of toothbrush is no good? That’s impossible. Anything free is the best!

“Ah, there it is~” Ling Ning found a tube of toothpaste branded as “African Chief.” Not only was it cheap, but it also came with two free toothbrushes. It was like it was made just for her—she grabbed it without a second thought.

“Hmm…”

Ling Ning looked at the row of feminine hygiene products in front of her, hesitating. She was a girl now, after all. Did she need this or not? After some serious thinking, she decided against it. She had already bought plenty of other things, and there seemed to be some left at home anyway. She could deal with it when the time came.

Surely, her “monthly visitor” wouldn’t arrive that soon… right?

Just as Ling Ning was about to turn and leave, she noticed that the tissues were on sale—buy two, get one free! Squinting her eyes, she thought for a moment. There were still some tissues left at home, but… tissues were something that you’d always need eventually, and they were on sale.

Seeing the sale sign, Ling Ning felt an uncontrollable urge. Her sealed right hand began to twitch, and the power of the King was about to be unleashed.

“No!” She reached out with her left hand to stop her right. Now wasn’t the time. There were still enough tissues at home, and buying more now would only take up space that she didn’t have much of. Besides, who knew—maybe there’d be a buy-one-get-one-free promotion next time.

Ling Ye watched her mother’s intense internal struggle, completely clueless about what was going on.

“Forget it. I knew this would happen…” Ling Ning muttered to herself as she pulled a coin from her pocket, tossing it up in the air. Whenever she faced an impossible decision, this was her solution.

She caught the coin and looked at it—tails. So she wouldn’t buy it? Fine, best two out of three. She tossed it again—tails again.

“I refuse to believe it’ll be tails every time!”

Ten minutes later…

Ling Ning smiled as she looked at the coin showing heads in her hand. It seemed the heavens wanted her to buy those tissues after all. Without hesitation, she grabbed four packs, more than enough to last until the new year.

Suddenly, her eyes lit up. She hadn’t expected body wash to be on sale too, with a free small bottle of shampoo included. Perfect! They were already down to a third of the current bottle at home, so it was time to get a backup. Buy, buy, buy!

Ling Ye watched her mother, who had fallen into a shopping frenzy, scratching her little head in confusion. She seemed to have found something interesting and bounced toward a shelf in the corner.

When Ling Ning finally snapped out of her shopping mania, she realized her cart was already overflowing. She sighed in resignation. Why couldn’t she control her hands?

“Huh!?” Ling Ning suddenly noticed something very troubling—Ling Ye was nowhere to be seen.

Before panic could set in, Ling Ye appeared from behind one of the shelves, walking toward her holding something in her hand. “Mom, what’s this thing used for?”

One look, and Ling Ning almost choked. Wasn’t that… something indescribable? Why was something like that being sold in a supermarket? Without hesitation, Ling Ning snatched it from Ling Ye’s hands, fumbling for an explanation. “This… this is, um… it’s… used for… massages.”

“Oh~” Ling Ye nodded thoughtfully, then held out another item. “What about this one? Why does this round thing have a remote control attached?”

“Pffft!”

Ling Ning almost spat out blood. Was this some sort of joke? First an indescribable item, and now another even more indescribable one. How was she supposed to explain this?

“Well, um…” Ling Ning squinted, desperately trying to come up with a reasonable explanation.

“This is for scratching itches!”

“Scratching itches?” Ling Ye looked at the item in her hand, her face full of doubt. She couldn’t understand how something like this could be used for scratching itches.

“Anyway, kids shouldn’t ask so many questions!”

Ling Ning quickly snatched the indescribable object from Ling Ye, tossing it back onto the shelf. She then grabbed Ling Ye and hurried away from the area. As they walked, Ling Ye mumbled, “Didn’t you say kids should ask questions if they don’t understand something?”

After they paid, Ling Ning looked at the long receipt and then at all the bags she couldn’t even carry with both hands. How had this happened? She had only planned to buy toothpaste and toothbrushes, so why did she end up with all this?

For the first time, she experienced the thrill of shopping, understanding the power of a good discount. Two happy things had converged into one moment, and those two moments of joy had brought her even more happiness. It should have been a dream-like happiness… but why, why had it turned out like this?

There was no way she could carry all of this home by herself! What was she going to do?
