56. balablabala
Few students returned to school for the lunch break, with most of the boys off to enjoy themselves at the cybercafé, leaving the large classroom nearly empty.
Since Xu Qing didn’t come back for lunch, Xia You eagerly claimed the seat beside Ling Ning, watching her as she slept. She felt a strong urge to reach out.
Glancing around the classroom and confirming that no one was paying attention, Xia You leaned over, giving Ling Ning a light kiss on the lips like a thief, then carefully checked to see if Ling Ning would wake up. Seeing she was still deeply asleep, Xia You let out a quiet sigh of relief.
After this small success, Xia You grew bolder, gently reaching out to touch Ling Ning’s smooth leg. She felt her heart race, but just as she was about to move her hand higher, Ling Ning shifted position in her sleep, startling her. Realizing Ling Ning hadn’t woken, she relaxed again.
Resisting the urge to go further, Xia You settled for resting her head on the desk beside Ling Ning, simply watching her sleep with a blissful smile. Anyone seeing her now would have thought something was seriously wrong with her.
The lunch break passed quickly, and Xia You reluctantly got up when it ended, knowing that annoying girl Xu Qing would be back soon. She couldn’t help wondering how she could get rid of Xu Qing for good.
“Ling Ning belongs to me. No one can take her from me,” Xia You muttered, a fervent look flashing in her eyes.

When Xu Qing returned to school, she saw Ling Ning still fast asleep. After sleeping all morning, did she still need more rest? She was starting to doubt Ling Ning’s claim that she’d only stayed up “a bit late.”
But before Xu Qing could dwell on it, the bell rang to signal the start of class.
Since Ling Ning was in a humanities-focused class, she had literature class in the afternoon, taught by none other than Yu Wen, the older teacher who disliked lateness and sleeping in class.
This time, Yu Wen came prepared. After double-checking the pronunciation of the character “泠” in his dictionary, he was ready to call her out.
The moment he walked in, he zeroed in on the still-sleeping Ling Ning. “If she’s still asleep, I won’t hold back,” he thought with a cold smirk, his gaze sharpening.
Noticing the teacher’s expression, Xu Qing tried to wake Ling Ning, gently nudging her. But Ling Ning was dead to the world, completely unresponsive. Xu Qing gave her another, firmer nudge, but Ling Ning merely shifted into a more comfortable position and continued her nap.
Frustrated, Xu Qing tried one last time, but nothing worked. She was practically panicking—there had to be limits, even to classroom naps!
Yu Wen glanced at Ling Ning and decided on his plan of attack. Writing two lines of poetry on the board, he cleared his throat and said, “I’d like a student to analyze these two lines.”
Pretending to scan the room, he swiftly focused on Ling Ning. “Let’s have our academic rep, Ling Ning, answer this question.”
At the teacher’s words, Xu Qing knew she had no choice. She pinched Ling Ning’s thigh, hard enough to get her attention. This finally roused Ling Ning, who shot up, still drowsy, looking around as if searching for the culprit.
The scene almost made the other students laugh, but they restrained themselves with the teacher present.
“Ling Ning, could you explain the meaning and interpretation of these lines?” Yu Wen prompted.
Ling Ning blinked as she processed what was happening. It became clear the teacher was unimpressed with her napping, and he’d picked her on purpose. She sighed, feeling almost as if she’d been marked.
She squinted at the lines on the blackboard, reading them quietly to herself.
“Well then, what’s the significance of this poem?” the teacher asked.
Ling Ning thought for a moment. She had studied this material before, and it felt familiar, but her mind was still foggy, and she couldn’t recall the details clearly.
“What’s wrong? If you don’t know, I’ll have to call on someone else,” Yu Wen said, trying to keep his expression neutral. If she failed to answer, it would be the perfect opportunity for him to lecture her.
Ling Ning noticed Xu Qing pointing to a spot in her book. Understanding dawned, and she said, “The lines mean balablabala~, and the interpretation is balablabala~.”
[Author’s Note: This isn’t just filler text! I worry that if I write out the poem’s meaning, you’ll think I’m padding the chapter. I swear it’s not laziness—it’s just for pacing!]
Yu Wen looked at Ling Ning, surprised she’d answered correctly. He’d just covered this material last lesson, but she’d slept through that entire class. Could she have pre-studied?
Though slightly disappointed, he had no choice but to let her sit down and continue his lesson. Turning back to the board, he wrote a few more notes, only to turn around and see Ling Ning had already dozed off again.
Yu Wen took a deep breath, reminding himself to stay calm. Today’s lesson continued the analysis of Lin Zexu’s poem Farewell to My Family Before Deployment, which, judging by Ling Ning’s answer, she seemed to understand thoroughly. He decided to let it go this time, planning to address her behavior when they moved on to new material.
Xu Qing looked at Ling Ning in surprise. Even though she’d given her a hint, Ling Ning had only glanced at it before rattling off her answer confidently. Without pre-studying, that would have been impossible.
When Ling Ning immediately resumed her nap after answering, Xu Qing was left speechless. Ling Ning’s love for sleep surpassed even a pig’s.
