62. The Wind Feels a Bit Rowdy Today~
“You can drop me off here. I’ll walk the rest of the way,” Ling Ning said to Qin Qing as they neared the school gate. As for why Qin Qing was giving her a ride, that went back to yesterday.
After her photo shoot, Ling Ning had dozed off again, and by the time Qin Qing woke her up, it was already late in the evening. Ling Ning had insisted on going home to be with her daughter, not feeling comfortable leaving her alone.
But it turned out Qin Qing had already gone and picked up Ling Ye, so Ling Ning ended up spending the night at her place. Qin Qing, for reasons unknown, insisted that they all share one bed, despite having plenty of rooms. And, predictably, Ling Ning had a certain type of dream again.
Since she wasn’t at home, Ling Ning was too embarrassed to ask Qin Qing for clean underwear. She hated wearing damp underwear, so she’d taken them off and packed them in her bag after washing them. Now, she was going “no underwear” for the day.
Ling Ning carefully got out of the car, mindful of her skirt length—not too short, but far from long. An accidental slip would be disastrous.
“Well, I’m off to bed,” Qin Qing said with a yawn, handing Ling Ning her pay from the previous day before driving off.
Ling Ning’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the cash in her hand, visions of the future flashing before her.
Unbeknownst to her, Li Qian had witnessed this exchange. From her angle, she hadn’t seen Qin Qing in the car, so to her, it looked as though Ling Ning had just gotten out of a luxury car and accepted cash from the driver.
This sight sparked all kinds of assumptions in Li Qian’s mind. She narrowed her eyes, recalling the changes in Ling Ning’s appearance since last semester. Such transformations usually had an obvious explanation, one that she could hardly wait to share.
Ling Ning didn’t notice Li Qian’s look. She was more concerned with the brisk, unruly wind today, forcing her to walk with extra caution. A route that normally took minutes stretched into over ten.
But the worst part was that her classroom was on the third floor, meaning she’d have to climb three flights of stairs, each step a potential disaster.
Resigned, Ling Ning decided to wait at the bottom of the stairs until the hallway cleared out a bit.
“Why are you standing here?” came a voice from behind.
Turning around, Ling Ning saw Li Qian looking at her with a strange expression. A wave of panic struck her. Could Li Qian somehow know about her “no underwear” situation?
Seeing Ling Ning’s flustered look, Li Qian felt her suspicions confirmed.
“I-I’m waiting for someone,” Ling Ning replied, grasping for an excuse, hoping Li Qian would leave quickly.
Li Qian nodded knowingly, then continued up the stairs.
As Li Qian disappeared, Ling Ning breathed a sigh of relief. Taking advantage of the empty staircase, she hurriedly went upstairs, unaware that Xia You was watching her from a corner.
Lost in her own thoughts, Ling Ning forgot to hold down her skirt, and an errant gust of wind provided Xia You with an unexpected glimpse.
“Phew~”
Finally seated in her classroom, Ling Ning took a deep breath, grateful that she’d arrived without incident. Surely, no one had noticed anything… right?
Relaxed at last, she felt drowsiness take over. After a few yawns, she couldn’t resist any longer and lay her head down on her desk, quickly dozing off.
Xia You, meanwhile, couldn’t stop staring at her, wondering if she’d really seen what she thought she’d seen that morning. It had only been a brief moment, and she couldn’t be sure she hadn’t imagined it.
For the entire first class, Xia You remained fixated on her plan. Finally, as she watched a classmate bend under a desk to retrieve a fallen pen, inspiration struck.
Throughout the second class, Xia You was impatient, barely able to focus on the lesson as she waited for the chance to act on her idea.
“Ring ring~”
Finally, class ended, though the teacher seemed intent on carrying on since the next period was also his. His obvious intention to teach both lessons as one left Xia You wanting to throw something.
As he droned on, her irritation reached its peak. Normally, she would’ve accepted it, but today was different—why was he dragging things out now, of all times?
Eventually, he finished and left the room, leaving the students a brief break before the next period. Most of the class filed out, and Xia You’s biggest obstacle, Xu Qing, had gone to the restroom.
Seizing the moment, Xia You casually dropped a pen near Ling Ning’s feet, only to watch it roll away. She hesitated, then took out another pen and dropped it, but it rolled to the other side of the aisle.
After using up all her pens, one finally landed near Ling Ning’s feet. Acting quickly, Xia You knelt down beside her, ostensibly reaching for the pen while glancing up toward Ling Ning’s skirt.
But her view was obstructed—Ling Ning’s long legs were pressed tightly together.
Not ready to give up, Xia You took a deep breath, then tapped Ling Ning’s leg, saying, “Ling Ning, your foot’s on my pen.”
“Mm…” Ling Ning mumbled sleepily, shifting her leg slightly. And with that one small movement, Xia You confirmed her suspicion.
“Interesting…” she murmured to herself.
