How Could I Possibly Have a Daughter After Reincarnating?

74. I… I’m So Excited!

“What on earth is going on?”

Yu Wen stepped into the classroom and was stunned to see Ling Ning diligently reading. This threw him for a loop, and he double-checked his footing, thinking he must have walked in on the wrong foot or something.

The students stared as their usually composed Chinese teacher took a few steps backward and exited the room, leaving the class leader to awkwardly stifle the “stand up” command she had prepared for his entrance.

Moments later, the teacher re-entered, giving a small cough as he resumed his place at the front of the room. Finally, the class leader gave the “stand up” command with relief.

Yu Wen still couldn’t shake his confusion. The Ling Ning he knew was usually fast asleep during his classes. Yet here she was, not only awake but actually reading! Was the sun rising in the west today? Had waterfalls begun flowing backward? Had lazy fish started swimming upstream? What was going on?

The entire class was equally bewildered. The “Sleeping Beauty,” who always napped as soon as she arrived, was fully awake, and by the look on her face, she wasn’t faking it.

“Ling Ning, is something wrong?” Xu Qing whispered, blinking in surprise.

“Hmm? No, why do you ask?” Ling Ning replied casually.

“It’s just… you’re not asleep today,” Xu Qing stammered, carefully choosing her words.

“I just don’t feel sleepy today,” Ling Ning answered nonchalantly. It had been almost a month since the memory fusion began, and it had progressed faster than she’d expected. Her memories were now fully merged, and with it, her tendency to fall asleep frequently had mostly disappeared. She still enjoyed a good nap now and then, but it wasn’t as necessary as before.

“Ahem.” Yu Wen cleared his throat, drawing the class’s attention. “Today, the teachers have decided to hold a surprise quiz.”

The students were hardly fazed. As high school seniors, they were used to small quizzes every three days and major exams every five. By now, exams were a regular part of life.

Yu Wen noted their lack of reaction and chuckled. “The results of this quiz will determine how comfortable your workload will be for the rest of the month, so take it seriously.”

Ling Ning watched her classmates as they perked up, ready to tackle the test. She smiled calmly. They’re so young, she thought. Even at its easiest, senior year was still a mountain of test papers. The teachers’ “comfort” was likely just a few fewer sheets here and there, hardly worth getting excited over.

Her memory fusion had taken away the “cheat code” abilities she’d briefly enjoyed, but the test itself was manageable. She would be fine. Yet she couldn’t help but miss the ease of her “cheat” phase. She half-jokingly wondered how she could “reload” her powers, sighing dramatically as she sat down to take the test.

“Phew~”

Ling Ning stretched, feeling pleasantly surprised at how quickly time had flown by. She packed up her belongings at a leisurely pace, ready for a relaxing lunch followed by a nap in Ye Xuan’s office.

Napping had become a habit over the past month, and without it, she felt a little sluggish in the afternoons.

As she reached the door, a figure suddenly came charging her way, and before she could dodge, it was too late.

“Thud!”

Ling Ning found herself flat on the floor, her backside painfully meeting the ground as her head banged against something hard. Her eyes watered from the sudden impact.

Li Qian, meanwhile, was having a terrible day. She’d spent the previous night reviewing her notes, only to find that none of the topics she’d studied were on the quiz. She’d barely managed to get through the morning, and just as she was about to leave, she realized she’d left her phone in the classroom. In her rush to retrieve it, she’d accidentally plowed right into someone—of all people, Ling Ning, the last person she wanted to encounter.

“Um… could you get off me?” Ling Ning asked, frowning as she tried to ignore her mild germophobia. Lying on the classroom floor was uncomfortable enough without someone sitting on her.

“I don’t feel like it~”

Li Qian gave a cold laugh. She was already in a bad mood, and running into someone she didn’t want to see made it even worse. If Ling Ning wanted her to get up, she’d do exactly the opposite.

The air suddenly grew quiet, and the two just silently stared at each other without speaking. Li Qian noticed that Ling Ning was quite pretty—this was the first time she’d observed her from such a close distance, and she found herself unable to look away.

While Li Qian was observing Ling Ning, Ling Ning was also watching Li Qian. Ling Ning had distinct memories of Li Qian, as they had been in the same class before—one was a white swan, the other an ugly duckling, like they lived in two completely different worlds.

While the two were “gazing deeply” at each other, a girl’s voice suddenly came from the classroom door: “S-sorry for interrupting you two.” After speaking, the young girl ran away covering her face, shouting “I’m so excited!” and “Yuri is the best~”

Only then did Li Qian realize how suggestive her position with Ling Ning looked—from an outsider’s perspective, no one would believe there wasn’t something secret going on between them.

“Are you still not getting up?” Ling Ning looked playfully at Li Qian, completely unconcerned about being seen in such a compromising position.

“…..” Seeing Ling Ning’s somewhat mocking expression, Li Qian’s initial thought to get up vanished, and she suddenly felt inexplicably angry. If she got up just because Ling Ning told her to, wouldn’t that make her lose face? Her gaze locked onto Ling Ning’s small, delicate ear.

“It shouldn’t be a problem if I bite it, right?” Li Qian thought to herself.

Ling Ning saw Li Qian’s face getting closer and closer, seemed to realize something was wrong, and began struggling intensely.

Li Qian hadn’t expected such a strong reaction from Ling Ning, and in a moment of carelessness, the classroom air grew quiet once again.

“I… this…” Shen Shi stared dumbfounded at Ling Ning and Li Qian kissing, unable to say a word. Why, why did all the beautiful girls have to get together with each other, leaving single guys like him with no hope!
