"Incredible!....truly incredible display Mr Potter. I have made the wand that you are holding with my own hands and I know for a fact that this wand never had a master before today. Yet in your hands, it is behaving like it has been reunited with its master after a long time." The wandmaker spoke excitedly after seeing the four patronus produced by Harry's wand.
"I would ask how you have such a strong connection with one of my wands? Strongest I have ever seen between a wand and its master even though you are holding the wand for the very first time. But you won't answer me, would you?" The wandmaker asked in a defeated tone. To which Harry answered by simply shaking his head.
"Interesting enough this situation reminds me of a weird phrase I found in a very old tome, it said everything and everyone else may forget but magic remembers"
Hearing this Harry spoke for the first time since coming to the shop. "Why does this reminds you of those words?"
The wandmaker smiled "of that I don't have the faintest idea but that's what makes it so interesting, doesn't it?"
Harry sighed, this is what he gets for taking the eccentric wandmaker seriously. " I will take the wand and a wand maintenance kit, I would also prefer that you forget to put the trace on the wand and would like it if a certain headmaster remains uninformed at least until I start Hogwarts."
The wandmaker nodded "Without the trace the wand will be full-priced. But these are some big favours your asking of me Mr Potter. How do expect to pay me back for taking such substantial risks?"
Usually the ministry would pay for 90% of the cost of the wand for the wizard so they can add the witch or the wizard and their wand in question to their official registry. For normal wands that cost comes to 70 galleons and with the ministry paying 90% this comes down to 7 galleons.
Most wands cost only 70 galleons to make because the wandmakers can easily procure the components. A single dragon heart can make hundreds of wands and dozens of hairs can be collected from a single unicorn.
Harry's holly wand on the other hand could cost upwards of 700 galleons because of how rare phoenixes are and how hard it is to collect a tail feather from them. You can't just pick a feather that a phoenix left on the ground because that feather will turn to ash during the burning day. A phoenix tail feather has to be willing given by the phoenix.
The only reason Ollivander sold this holly wand at 7 galleons before is because the old wandmaker loves his craft and especially likes tricky customers. Wands with phoenix feathers are known for being particularly picky and holly and phoenix feather is an extraordinary combination even amongst phoenix feather wands.
This is just the full price of the wand without the trace, the cost of not informing Dumbledore, a dear friend of the wandmaker can't be paid with gold. This is why Harry came prepared.
Harry slowly removed a black box from his person and puts it atop the counter. The wandmaker eyed the box curiously before opening it, inside the box is a single white fang.
Yes, this is a basilisk fang, but this fang is completely stripped of its venom because it is meant to be added to a wand. Even a little bit of basilisk venom would completely destroy a wand.
Seeing that the wandmaker is stunned recognizing the fang Harry spoke "Basilisk ivory, add it to my wand and whatever remains is yours to keep in exchange for your silence on the matter"
Adding basilisk ivory to a wand makes it almost indestructible, such a wand can only be damaged and destroyed by fiendfyre and other such extreme methods. Such material is obviously coveted by all wandmakers but for obvious reasons such ivory is never available.
There is enough basilisk ivory for three wands in this fang. So there is more than enough ivory for the wandmaker to study the material even after adding it to Harry's wand. This should be enough to buy the wandmaker's services and his silence.
The old wizard nodded after pondering Harry's offer for a while. "I would also like a chance to collect a tail feather in the future from this beautiful phoenix on your shoulder, she is obviously is in a weakened state for now"
Harry turned to Hedwig and mentally asked her permission to which she gave him a nod.
"Okay but make it quick I don't have much time left" he said to the wandmaker and gave his wand back.
The wandmaker took his wand and the fang in the back for a half-hour before returning with his wand. The wand which was dark brown has now become a lighter shade of brown but the lustre of the wand is even brighter than before.
Harry took the newly modified wand in his hand but didn't feel any difference with his magic aside from the fact that it feels a lot more durable to him now. The wand gave a hum of approval as he kept it on his person.
Harry also felt one more presence of his person as he kept his wand but he didn't react to it in front of the wandmaker and left the shop with Hedwig.
Harry and Hedwig returned to the secluded alley and flashed back to the chamber of secrets. After returning Harry checked for the other presence he felt in the shop and just as he predicted it is the Elder wand.
