"But as I said, I can help you" Death's beautiful voice broke harry out of his thoughts.
"Help me, how?" Harry asked but he didn't get his hopes up, whatever game Death is playing with him can't be much better than Fate toying with his life, it might even be worse.
Death was able to sense harry's doubts but brushed past them anyway.
"Death can't interfere with life, so I can't do much for anyone else, but you harry are the exception to the rule, because you are not only Fate's champion but mine too. Since all three of my little trinkets has deemed you worthy as their master, you have become Death's champion."
Harry just nodded, he didn't even have it in him to be surprised anymore, while internally reflecting on his life and how it all came to this.
"So I can't just let Fate play with my champion's life. So I am giving you a choice, you can either accept Fate's rewards and live the life you always dreamed of, at the cost of forgetting your old one and what that's life will be like no one knows, it can be better or it might even be worse." then a mirror appeared in Death's right hand, it showed the same reflection Harry saw in his first year, him with his family.
Then on death's left hand a second mirror appeared, in this one harry saw all the pain and suffering he went through, his childhood at Dursley's, his near-death encounters with Voldemort, the many deaths of his friends and family during the war, etc, "Or you can take all your pain with you in the hopes of doing better this time around. But remember in your new life your scars might fade but they will never go away, you will always be different. You will give up the life you always wanted just to win a war you already won decades ago, just to do it all over again."
"So Harry potter what will it be? will you choose a life of happiness and blissful ignorance? or will you give up all that just to suffer through war once again?" Death asked.
At that moment Harry learned something about himself, that he is either a masochist or he is just insane, why else would a person refuse happiness and choose a life filled with hardships and suffering. Going back with his memory intact is like scraping open his old wounds, he will see the life he always wanted all the while never fully able to live it. While everyone else around him will be blissfully ignorant of dangers lurking in the shadows he would be preparing to face those dangers alone.
"I see you have made your decision" as if reading harry's mind Death spoke. Harry couldn't really tell what Death thought about his choice, did Death agree with him or was disappointed that he didn't take the easy path.
"As you already know this will not be easy, an adult's consciousness in a newborn will just lead to your very premature demise, but I can't just send my champion back just to die, so I will help with that. The first few years your body will function on autopilot until your mind and body can adapt to your mature consciousness, use your wizard mind magic to centre yourself during this time, the more progress you make the faster your young body will adjust to you"
Harry nodded, that should be easy enough after all he has decades of experience with mind magic.
"And going back obviously means you have once again train your magic from the start, and I don't have to tell you that Tom Riddle is still lurking around so you better be prepared or it can even be worse than last time. But it's not all bad, you are not going back empty-handed, since you are the master of my three little trinkets so they are yours to use however you want, going back won't change that."
"How did I become the master of Deathly hallows anyway? I am sure it's not as simple as just collecting all three" Harry asked, he never believed in all that Master of Death and immortality crap. While the hallows are powerful magical artefacts they are not powerful enough to cheat death, and why would Death itself make the instruments that elude its grasp.
"It's quite simple actually, all three of my trinkets found you worthy of being their master, this has never happened before. There were a few mortals that mastered one of them but never all three. As for why? that depends, the wand might be powerful but that's all it is, a wand, it is just a tool to perform magic, in the hands of an average wizard all it does is make their spells more powerful, you have to actually be powerful to make full use of the wand. You mastered the wand by resisting its power and using your own wand, you used the Elder wand to learn from it instead. Albus Dumbledore could have mastered the wand but he was too afraid that the wand will corrupt him"
Harry agreed, his former headmaster only used the elder wand only when it was absolutely necessary.
"The cloak and stone are even more simple, you could have used the cloak to your advantage in all sorts of ways but you didn't, and the stone accepted because you never disturbed your loved ones in death, that was unusual even to me"Death paused and looked at Harry with an odd sense of curiosity "Harry Potter has everything in life but no one to live for, you were alone but you never disturbed their rest when you could have easily called for them with the stone"
"So are we done here or is there more I need to know before I go back?" Harry asked while Death was still looking at him like it was trying to figure out an odd puzzle.
"Not so fast, I still have one more gift for you before you go back"
