Hunter x Hunter: Desire Manifest [EN]

Chapter 9: Chapter 9

All participants had settled into their respective rooms two days earlier, and during those two days, they had yet to receive any instructions.

With their rooms locked tight, some of the contestants tried to break out. Some succeeded, and some had their doors opened on their own. What happened to them now is unknown. Whether they were disqualified or not, Ives clearly did not care much.

Food and drinks are provided through a slot in the room three times a day, and frankly, the food is quite good. This way, participants don't have to worry about going hungry.

Feeling that there was nothing else to do, Ives continued his meditation. Biscuit joined him, but she stopped after three hours and decided to watch a TV show to vent her boredom.

Time passed, and the fourth day arrived. Precisely at noon, suddenly, there was a vibration in every room where the Hunter Exam participants lived. When the vibration occurred, an announcement was also heard from a speaker; the speaker was the Exam Examiner concerned.

The Examiner instructed the participants to go to a tall hill in the middle of the island. The time given is twelve hours. If they fail, the Zeppelin that transports the participants to the next stage will depart regardless of whether participants are still left.

Inside the room, Ives calmly watched the secret door open automatically. Standing in the doorway, he stared straight ahead at the path he was about to take.

From there, he could already feel the cold air brushing his face, but this cold temperature was not the biggest threat. Ahead was a straight road uphill that led to the top of the hill where the Zeppelin awaited the Hunter Exam participants.

Although the road was straight, its linearity did not mean it was safe. On the contrary, it made it vulnerable to sudden attacks from wild creatures hiding in the very shady area.

After checking all his belongings, Ives nodded and turned to Biscuit, "Are you ready?"

"Unn!"

They stepped out of the room together. With just one step, they already felt that the atmosphere had changed drastically. The shade made it difficult for sunlight to penetrate, increasing the horror atmosphere.

Trying to ignore it, they continued walking forward, but suddenly, they felt the ground around them tremble. From within the darkness, several black shadows appeared, moving at incredible speed.

The first creature that appeared was a giant boar with thick fur. The boar's tusks were sharp; its muscles were explosive. Ives, who witnessed the monster, felt like he was seeing a creature resulting from a certain virus experiment!

The boar charged forward, baring its tusks.

In response to this attack, Ives jumped to the side skillfully. Taking advantage of the momentum, he swung his machete.

Ding!

Ives connected his slash, but he felt like it hit a hard wall!

Jumping back, he adjusted his position. "Tch, its skin is pretty tough, but even so, this machete is sharp enough to scratch it, and that's enough."

Taking a running start, he ran forward. When the boar's tusks were swung, he immediately made a tackling movement and managed to avoid it. Right under the boar's feet, he slashed his machete with all his might right at the opponent's neck!

Blood splattered, but not much. The attack had at least managed to cut a few inches in.

Exiting through the boar's hind legs, Ives stood up and was greeted by the giant boar's furious gaze.

"Growls!" The giant boar screeched. Anger and pain that was what the boar felt, and it wanted to kill the bastard standing in front of it.

"Ives, watch out!" Biscuit shouted.

Because of the close distance, he got charged by that monstrous beast. His body was thrown several meters back until he finally hit a tree.

"Damn it! I'm fine!" Ives replied. "Biscuit, get ready!"

Standing up, Ives held the tree to support him. Luckily, the boar's tusks hadn't sunk in. Otherwise, he would have been badly injured by now.

Glancing left and right, he made a plan. He quickly dove behind some trees.

The boar growled loudly as he looked around in confusion. Unable to find its main prey, the boar immediately focused on the girl. Swiping its legs, it was ready to charge at its opponent. But this was the fatal mistake it made, neglecting its surroundings.

Coming out of the bushes, Ives kicked right into the side of the boar's head.

The boar staggered backward, but Ives didn't stop there. Climbing atop the giant boar, he strangled a rope of tree fibers he had gathered around its neck.

His hands gripped the ropes tightly. He swiped them as if he was sawing the opponent's neck. Keep in mind that the boar had already received a cut wound on its neck, and this sawing motion clearly hurt the boar.

With a loud scream, the boar suddenly stood on its two legs and fell backward. Since Ives was still riding it, he automatically fell and got crushed by it, but he still did not release his grip.

"Biscuit, now!"

"I am coming!" Biscuit grabbed her machete and stabbed it straight into the slash wound on her opponent's neck.

The boar continued to struggle and scream, but after a while, his screams became thinner, and he stopped moving.
