Chapter 96: Chapter 96: The Fall of the Kute Gang of Thieves
At this moment, Old O desperately hoped someone would step in to help him.
But both Old T and Old U were already struggling against the might of Ging Freecss. The two of them had joined forces to try and handle him, yet they couldn't keep up. Unlike Zeno and Silva, Ging wasn't a professional assassin but a Hunter. He wasn't obsessed with a flawless victory record, instead, his approach was relentless, brutal even.
And he was stronger than Zeno and Silva.
"Who is this guy?" one of the Kute Gang of Thieves muttered. "So young, yet so powerful?"
"Could Meteor City really hire someone like him?"
This was the first time the Kute Gang felt true panic. Although Ging wasn't exactly young anymore—he was close to thirty, and his son Gon was about five years old—Ging didn't look particularly imposing. But his aura was strange and difficult to read.
Old T and Old U soon realized that Ging was actually mimicking their techniques as they fought. Yet, it wasn't just copying, Ging's abilities were far superior, turning their own techniques back on them with terrifying efficiency.
As a result, both Old T and Old U found themselves fighting what felt like an improved version of themselves—victory was nowhere in sight.
"Now!" Zeno's voice cut through the air.
Silva leaped, holding two condensed spheres of aura in his hands, ready to slam them down with devastating force. Zeno, with impeccable timing, slipped away just before impact, leaving Old O trapped.
With a resounding crash, Silva's attack landed, causing the ground beneath to crater under the massive impact. Before the dust could settle, Zeno lunged back into the fray.
Slash!
A streak of crimson cut through the air as Old O's body was thrown back, tumbling through the air for several meters before hitting the ground with a heavy thud. He struggled to rise but was too weakened. Silva and Zeno's relentless attacks had left him battered and broken.
"Mission complete," Zeno said coolly, twisting Old O's neck in one swift motion, ending his life.
Silva pulled out his phone, calling the elders of Meteor City.
"Mission complete," he said, without a hint of emotion.
The elder's voice came back, laced with both regret and relief.
"The Kute Gang of Thieves… all dead?"
"Not entirely," Silva replied, scanning the battlefield. "According to the contract, we Zoldycks were only required to eliminate one member. Old O is dead. The remaining fee can be transferred."
The elder paused, taking in the information.
"Understood," he finally replied. "I'll authorize the transfer immediately. What's the current situation?"
Silva glanced toward Ging, who was still holding off Old T and Old U.
"Ging Freecss has them under control—it's only a matter of time until he defeats them. The only one left is Old K, who's engaged in a fight with one of your men."
Another pause on the line, longer this time. The elder was well aware that the losses to the Wild Beast faction—the elite fighters of Meteor City—were catastrophic. But they hadn't anticipated the Kute Gang of Thieves would be so thoroughly decimated.
"Could we hire you again? To take out Old K?"
Silva didn't answer right away. He looked to Zeno, who met his gaze with a small nod.
"We can," Zeno replied.
Originally, they had only agreed to handle one member of the Kute Gang of Thieves, confident they could take down at least that much. But with Old O dead and Ging handling the others, Old K was the only one left standing. Zeno and Silva, still fresh and uninjured, were certain they could dispatch him as well.
"Transfer the deposit first," Silva said.
The elder didn't hesitate, and soon the payment notification came through.
Meanwhile, Old K had begun to notice the tides turning against him. His allies were falling, and the realization set in—victory was impossible. He considered fleeing, revenge could wait. However, just as he prepared to retreat, one of Meteor City's Wild Beasts—a man in a suit with red-rimmed eyes filled with fury—moved to block his escape. Driven by vengeance, the man in the suit was fueled by a powerful oath, making him much stronger than usual.
Seeing his comrades' bodies scattered around him, the man was willing to risk everything. The members of the Wild Beast group had been like family to him, and he wasn't about to let Old K escape unscathed.
A spectator from Meteor City, watching the scene from afar, couldn't help but question Zeno and Silva's calm demeanor.
"Why aren't they attacking Old K?" he wondered aloud. "Aren't they worried about revenge from the Kute Gang of Thieves?"
The elders were wondering the same thing. But Zoldycks don't work for free—assassinations are paid work, and they'd already completed their contracted mission. They were unfazed by the notion of retribution from the Kute Gang of Thieves, who posed no real threat to the Zoldyck family.
However, now that a new contract had been established, Zeno and Silva turned their focus to Old K. Their auras flared, alerting him to the impending danger. Old K shifted his gaze warily between the two assassins, sensing the deadly intent behind their calm expressions.
And just then, a shadow moved behind Old K.
