Hunter X Hunter: Tombbound Power

Chapter 131: 131: The Rumor

Before they arrived, the atmosphere here was heavy with death and resentment. But once Ronnel stepped in, it was as though those dark forces fled with him.

"Let's not ask questions we don't want answers to," one of the men muttered.

The two exchanged a nervous glance, their bodies tensing, and then turned to leave at a brisk pace, not daring to look back.

In this place, the more you know, the shorter your life span.

As they hurried off, a soft thud echoed—something heavy hit the ground behind them.

"Boom!"

A headless corpse collapsed into the dust, sending up a cloud of fine dirt.

"That's that."

Ronnel sheathed his ancient copper saber with ease, giving a satisfied nod to the lifeless bodies.

"No more annoying interruptions."

The air around him, once thick with death and resentment, cleared as he absorbed the lingering malevolent energy.

He crouched next to the bodies and began rifling through their belongings. "Let's see what they brought me."

Among their things, he found five books of intermediate-level martial arts techniques and several manuals on personal combat styles—mostly unremarkable, but useful. One discovery, however, piqued his interest:

(T/N: Intermediate talents could manifest in one out of a million)

Nen abilities.

One corpse had the Nen of a Conjurer, able to transform their aura into ice. It reminded Ronnel of how Killua's body had become conditioned to electricity after years of torment. The man must have grown up in an unrelentingly cold environment, shaping his unique abilities.

But the real prize came from another fallen fighter—a Manipulator's Nen called Unlimited Firepower.

Ability: Create a firearm with limitless bullets, as long as air is present.

Restriction: The Nen can only manifest through pistols.

"Seems like the guy had a thing for pistols."

Ronnel picked up the manifested weapon—it looked remarkably like an old revolver he used to own. He slid it into his belt, alongside his sword and knife.

"Fully loaded now," he muttered with a smirk.

After cleaning up the area, Ronnel made his way to the Amethyst Grape Crystal with Shizuku. The two settled in, waiting silently for nightfall.

Time crawled by, each minute thick with anticipation. No one dared approach them, thanks to the Nen barriers Ronnel set at the entrance—suffused with corpse poison and death aura. It was a subtle but effective deterrent.

Those who ventured near quickly retreated, unwilling to risk crossing his traps. Still, the lure of hidden treasures was too strong for some. Rumors began to spread—fast.

"Isn't the death and resentment in the Cruz Cemetery fading?" people whispered.

Opportunists swarmed to the area, hoping to dig up long-buried riches. While the best items had been plundered years ago, desperation drives treasure hunters to dream of overlooked relics. Battles erupted among the seekers, plunging the cemetery into more chaos than when it was filled with the dead.

Word of the so-called Great Secret Treasure spread beyond the nearby town, reaching as far as the Republic of Padokea and neighboring kingdoms. Soon, entire nations took notice, dispatching spies and soldiers to stake their claim. Even the elite forces of Padokea arrived, guarding the cemetery with military precision.

But the tension between the surrounding kingdoms only escalated. With multiple factions converging on the site, friction grew, eventually requiring the intervention of the V5 to prevent all-out war.

In a nearby town, at a luxurious hotel, a pale, young man listened as one of his bodyguards reported the latest developments.

"The death aura at the cemetery has diminished, sir. People are fighting over rumors of a hidden treasure," the bodyguard explained.

The young man gave a soft chuckle, as if the whole situation amused him. "A treasure, huh?"

The guard hesitated. "As for why the death aura vanished… no one knows for sure. It seemed to dissipate all at once."

The young man's eyes glinted with amusement. "A place as dangerous as Cruz Cemetery doesn't just stop being cursed. Something must have caused it."

He leaned back, his mind working through the possibilities. "Either the Amethyst Grape Crystal absorbed the aura... or someone with an extraordinary ability removed it. But it would cost a fortune to hire a Nen user powerful enough to cleanse that much resentment."

His lips curled into a knowing grin. "Which means… there must be something else—a treasure with the power to erase death and aura. That's the only explanation."

The young man's expression turned calculating. "Forget just the Amethyst Grape Crystal. We need that other treasure, too."

The allure of the Great Secret Treasure was irresistible. Across the region, similar thoughts took root in the minds of many. No one suspected that the sudden change in the cemetery was connected to Nen—except for two Floor Masters who observed quietly from afar, their intentions unreadable.
