Chapter 4: Chapther 3- Hidden Truths

Enzo vandryn

Enzo sat alone in the dimly lit room, his mind still reeling from the fight. His hands were scraped, bruised, and his body felt like it had been torn apart and pieced back together. The memory of the werewolf's blood-red eyes, its hunger, and the brutal fight they'd barely survived haunted him. His breath was ragged as he replayed the events in his head, wondering how they had made it out alive.

Just then, the door creaked open, and a figure stepped inside. Enzo tensed, ready to defend himself if necessary. . Two figures stepped into the room—one of them was Scarlett, tall and composed, his dark gaze coldly calculating. The other was Aegon his cousin. Enzo hadn't seen his cousin in weeks, and the sight of him, looking worn but resolute, only raised more questions.

Scarlett glanced between Enzo and Aegon, his expression unreadable. "You managed to survive tonight, Enzo," Aegon said, his voice calm but intense. "Not many could stand against a werewolf and come out alive. It seems you're beginning to tap into what you truly are."

Enzo swallowed, his mind still struggling to wrap around the events. "What do you mean… what I truly am?"

Aegon stepped forward, his face showing a flicker of sympathy. "Enzo, you're a hybrid—a Vandaryn. Our bloodline carries the traits of vampires, werewolves, and witches. We're something far beyond what ordinary people can comprehend."

Enzo stared at Aegon, his mind racing. Hybrid. He'd always felt different, but this… this was something else entirely.

The silence in the room felt stifling, filled with unsaid words and mounting questions. Enzo's mind was a storm, but one thought cut through the noise with chilling clarity: Donna. She'd been there, too, caught in the nightmare alongside him.

He looked at Aegon, the worry plain in his voice. "Did you find her? Is she… is she okay?"

Aegon's face tightened, and he turned sharply toward Enzo. "Donna was there? She saw it all?"

Enzo nodded, a sinking feeling in his gut. "Yeah… she was right there. She saw everything."

Aegon's eyes darkened with concern, the realization hitting him hard. "She's not ready for this. She wasn't supposed to know—not like this." Without another word, he took off toward the door, his footsteps quick and determined.

"Where are you going?" Enzo called after him.

"To find her," Aegon replied over his shoulder. "She shouldn't have been drawn into this. I'll make sure she's safe."

With that, Aegon disappeared into the corridor, his form swallowed by the shadows. Enzo watched him go, a mix of relief and unease churning in his chest. Donna was family, and now she was tangled in a world she couldn't yet understand. A world that, until tonight, he hadn't fully known himself.

He glanced back at Scarlett, who remained calm, unperturbed, as if this was just another part of some grand plan. But for Enzo, it was the beginning of something he wasn't sure he was prepared to face. Scarlett's gaze lingered on the door for a moment before returning to Enzo. "Your cousin is right. Donna wasn't meant to be drawn into this, not yet

Enzo clenched his fists, his mind spinning with questions. "And what about me? Why are you telling me all of this now?"

Scarlett's face was unreadable, his voice a low rumble. "Because you're a Vandaryn, Enzo. You are one of the few who can stand between humanity and the darkness that lies beyond. But if you're to fulfill that role, you need to understand who you are and what you're capable of."

The words settled over Enzo like a weight, pressing into him with an intensity he couldn't shake. This wasn't just about survival. It was about something much larger, a world hidden beneath the surface of his own—and it was a world he was now a part of, whether he wanted to be or not.

Aegon Vandryn

Aegon moved swiftly through the quiet corridors, his senses sharp, searching for any trace of his cousin. But a faint, hesitant rustling from the edge of the trees caught his attention. He followed it, his pulse quickening, until his eyes adjusted to the shadows and he spotted her.

There, half-hidden behind a tree, was Donna. She was huddled, trembling, her clothes torn, and her face pale. When her eyes met his, they were wide with fear and confusion, a stark contrast to her usual warmth.

"Donna," he murmured, his voice soft as he approached, careful not to startle her. He knelt beside her, reaching out. "Hey… it's okay. You're safe now."

Donna's gaze darted around, her hands trembling as she hugged herself. "I… I don't know," she whispered, her voice breaking. "I was in the forest, and then… then it started chasing me." Her words were shaky, barely piecing together the terror she had just endured. "I don't know how I got there. I don't remember… anything." Her eyes searched his, as if seeking reassurance in the one person she knew she could trust. "Help me, Aegon… I'm hurt."

Aegon felt his chest tighten, his own fears briefly forgotten as he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a firm, protective embrace. "Shh… I'm here, Donna. I won't let anything happen to you," he murmured, his voice gentle and steady. He stroked her hair soothingly, letting her bury her face in his shoulder. "It's over now. You're safe."

Donna clung to him, her grip desperate, like a frightened child. For a moment, he could feel the depth of her fear, the vulnerability she rarely showed. He pulled back slightly, brushing a stray tear from her cheek, his touch light but filled with reassurance.

"How's Enzo?" she asked, her voice small, as if afraid to hear the answer.

Aegon managed a gentle smile, hoping it would soothe her. "Enzo's fine. He fought that… that dog and nearly killed it. He's tougher than he looks, you know."

A flicker of relief crossed Donna's face, and she let out a shaky laugh, leaning her head against his shoulder. "I was so scared," she whispered. "I didn't know what to do."

"You don't have to face these things alone, Donna," Aegon said softly, his tone filled with the protective warmth of an older brother. "We're family. I'm always here for you. And so is Enzo." He tightened his hold, his voice gentle yet firm. "No matter what happens, I won't let anything hurt you."

Bonnie Vandryn

From a distance, hidden by the shadows, Bonnie watched them. Her expression was unreadable, but her gaze lingered on the two, the scene reflecting both warmth and a hint of sadness. She remained unseen, silently witnessing the moment of comfort and strength that Aegon offered to his younger cousin.

The forest was silent, shrouded in a thick blanket of mist that clung to the trees like ghostly tendrils. Bonnie lingered near the edge, her mind racing as she waited. She sensed a presence before she saw it, and soon enough, Evelyn emerged from the shadows, her face a mixture of tension and determination.

"Why is Aegon here?" Bonnie's voice was barely above a whisper, laced with frustration. "What's going on? Who are these people, Evelyn?"

Evelyn let out a long sigh, her gaze drifting to the darkened woods. A flicker of fear crossed her face—a rare sight in someone as composed as Evelyn. "I didn't know," she murmured, almost to herself. "I didn't know they already had Aegon."

Bonnie's eyes narrowed. "Who?"

Evelyn hesitated, her voice dropping even lower. "The organization. They have him." She looked away, a bitter edge in her tone. "They plan to use him, and I'm too late. I should have been here sooner."

The words hung heavy in the air, and Bonnie felt a chill that had nothing to do with the night's cold. "What are they planning?"

Evelyn's jaw tightened, her voice resigned. "Everything they touch turns dark. They twist people, creatures, bend them to their will. And now… they have Aegon."

Bonnie clenched her fists, feeling a surge of anger and helplessness. "What can we do?"

Evelyn turned back to her, her eyes filled with an intensity Bonnie had rarely seen. "We act on the next full moon. It's about 30 days away. Until then, we stick together, watch each other's backs. We're going to need each other if we want to save them."

Bonnie felt a flicker of hope, mingled with fear. She looked into Evelyn's eyes, searching for reassurance. Evelyn's hand found hers, a touch that was both grounding and electric. "I got you," Evelyn whispered. "We'll save both of them."

Bonnie felt her breath catch, and in that moment, she let herself believe it. She leaned in, pressing her forehead to Evelyn's, their shared determination tightening the bond between them. As the tension between them melted into something warmer, she closed her eyes, feeling Evelyn's lips on hers—a quiet promise in the darkness.

When she opened her eyes, Evelyn was already fading back into the forest, her form dissolving into the shadows. Bonnie watched her disappear, her resolve hardening with every heartbeat. They would face this together. And they would bring the twins back.
