Chapter 1 - I'm not a normal villager
Qin Nan always considered himself an ordinary villager with an unremarkable life. Nothing in his life seemed destined to make ripples, let alone stir waves.
So his days were simple: living in the moment, playing when it was time to play, eating when it was time to eat.
Until one day, while gathering herbs in the mountains, he slipped and hit his head, falling unconscious.
When he finally woke up, he realized he had recovered memories of his past life.
In his previous life, he had been a formidable demon lord, committing countless heinous acts and eventually succumbing to divine retribution, meeting a tragic end.
He should have been utterly annihilated, body and soul. But due to the immense strength of his cultivation, a sliver of his true spirit had managed to endure, allowing him to reincarnate.
However, the near-destruction of his true spirit had taken its toll, leaving his reincarnated self with an ordinary physique and no memory of his past life—until now.
But that didn’t matter. With the knowledge of his past life, he could slowly work to improve his current conditions.
Determined, Qin Nan decided to stay in this secluded mountain village and cultivate secretly, growing stronger in the shadows until he was ready to explore the wider world.
Despite his previous life as a wicked demon lord, Qin Nan had turned over a new leaf after experiencing death.
As long as it was fulfilling, a peaceful and steady life was just as good as a grand and tumultuous one.
Qin Nan’s parents had died a year ago, killed by a tiger while gathering herbs in the mountains.
The year without his parents had been difficult—grueling, even.
An orphaned child in a harsh world couldn’t expect an easy life.
But now, things were different. With the memories of his past life restored, Qin Nan—though still a child—could fully fend for himself.
The village where Qin Nan lived was remote, with scarce contact with the outside world and few economic opportunities. Most villagers made their living by gathering and selling herbs from the mountains.
Though the herbs weren’t especially valuable, they were still medicinal.
Drawing on his past-life knowledge, Qin Nan transformed these mundane herbs into potent elixirs. These not only enhanced his cultivation but also treated the villagers’ illnesses, earning him small rewards.
Gradually, Qin Nan became known as the young miracle healer of Niujiao(Cow Horn) Village.
Qin Nan thought his life was now set—he would stay in the village for the next decade, cultivating quietly and growing his strength before venturing into the wider world.
But fate had other plans. Who could have expected a celestial beauty to fall from the sky?
One day, while gathering herbs, Qin Nan saw a figure plummet into a nearby grove. Curious, he went to investigate.
He soon found the source—a beautiful young woman, covered in blood and gravely injured, unconscious on the forest ground.
Despite her wounds and pale complexion, her ethereal beauty was undeniable.
It was clear to Qin Nan that she was a cultivator. Whatever had happened to her, it had left her on the brink of death.
Should he take advantage of the situation?
A naughty thought flickered through his mind for a moment, but he quickly dismissed it.
He wasn’t a demon lord anymore; there was no need to revert to old habits.
Should he leave her to her fate?
After some deliberation, Qin Nan made his decision.
Without hesitation, he picked her up—blood and all—and carried her back to Niujiao Village.
The mountain paths were uneven, and the woman wasn’t light. Qin Nan’s frail body was pushed to its limits. By the time he reached his doorstep, he was panting heavily.
After an entire night of effort—just medical care, don’t get the wrong idea—Qin Nan managed to save her life. But she showed no signs of waking.
It wasn’t until the following evening that she finally opened her eyes.
“Where am I?” Shangguan Rouyue asked weakly, her brows furrowed.
“Niujiao Village,” Qin Nan replied.
“Did you save me?” she asked, her tone filled with suspicion.
“Yes,” Qin Nan answered.
Then they exchanged names.
It was then that Shangguan Rouyue realized her clothes were gone, replaced by a crude animal hide. Her cheeks flushed crimson.
If not for the fact that Qin Nan was a mere boy and had undressed her out of necessity to treat her injuries, she might have silenced him permanently.
“Thank you. I’ll never forget this life-saving kindness,” she said, blushing deeply.
“Just focus on resting,” Qin Nan said, not saying much more.
Her injuries were still severe, and she was far from recovery. Qin Nan insisted that she stay in bed and call him if she needed anything.
But to his confusion, Shangguan Rouyue attempted to get up on her own while he was out, reopening her wounds.
When Qin Nan returned, he found her collapsed on the floor, looking pitiful.
When he asked what had happened, she wouldn’t say, her face flushed with embarrassment.
Qin Nan couldn’t quite understand her thoughts, so he helped her back into bed and told her to continue to rest.
However, Shangguan Rouyue fidgeted and refused to lie down, looking anxious as if there was something urgent she needed to attend to.
“I… I need to go…” Shangguan Rouyue mumbled softly, barely audible.
After Qin Nan repeatedly asked, she finally revealed the truth.
It was an awkward situation, no wonder she had difficulty bringing it up.
Fortunately, Qin Nan wasn’t an innocent, naive boy—he possessed wisdom and life experience far beyond his years.
“You’re seriously injured and can’t walk on your own. I’ll help you,” Qin Nan said, without giving it much thought.
Hearing this, Shangguan Rouyue’s face turned even redder, her expression one of extreme hesitation.
She stared at Qin Nan, trying to figure out if he was being deliberately mischievous or trying to take advantage of her.
But no matter how she looked, Qin Nan’s eyes remained clear, without any hint of impure thoughts.
