Chapter 12: Loss and Gains
Peter walked into Baxter's building after he removed his suit and changed into his casual clothes.
He rushed past Reeds who was working on a computer scratching his head in confusion as he compared reports.
He entered a small lab that was assigned to him by Susan when he became a core member at the Baxter's. He locked the door as not to let anybody.
This was a game-changing moment for him.
"Eryl, run in-depth analysis." Peter said as he passed the glass box containing the fine metal particles. Peter turned to the locker and got 12 different glass boxes and set them on a different shelf. "Also give me the feedback on the cloaking function. It would be a problem if I don't know how long it lasts."
"The average time is around 7 minutes of you do not make exaggerated movements or get hit. Exaggerated moments will stretch the fabric and the camouflage units won't be able to fill the gap between fabric due to it being stretched. The projected image would break as the units would be able to project data to each other." Eryl responded. "It was to be expected as it is still a fairly new piece of technology."
"I understand. I'll look into it later." Peter nodded as he finished placing the spiders in their new homes. "There you all go... Aren't you all fascinating?"
"I've finished running my scans." Eryl said.
Peter looked away from the spiders and walked towards the box.
"You were correct. These are nanobots. Prototypes yes, but nanobots." Eryl said confirming her master's doubts.
"Eryl... This, this changes everything." Peter said as he grinned widely. "I want you all the data on nanotechnology from OsCorp and Baxter's database. Corrupt any master files on OsCorp servers regarding these."
"Got it." Eryl said as she began transferring data to Peter's device. "It will be done in a few minutes."
"Good." Peter replied as he walked to the work station and plugged some samples of the vials into the machine. "Run simultaneous analysis on the serum samples as well. Do you think it's ready for human testing?"
"It's not ready for human testing whatsoever." Eryl said dashing Peter's hope. "The formula is far from perfect. Testing it right now would have hazardous results."
"I see." Peter sighed before sitting on his computer and booting it up. "Well, you can't have it all. Give me all of Dr Connors research data and any similar data regarding biochemistry genetic modification and enhancement. Make three Master files, one for the nanotechnology, one for the genetically engineered spider and the last one for this serum."
"Understood."
"There's a lot of work to be done." Peter sighed to himself but the smile on his face was undeniable. He was looking forward to good results.
------
"Care to tell me what happened here, Osborne?" Asked Alexander Pierce, as he stood in Norman's Office in all his two-faced glory with a sneer on his face.
Norman gritted his teeth as he began recounting what took place. Pierce heard what Norman had to say and with each word he was losing temper.
"Oh? Is that what happened?"
"Yes."
"You mean to say a street-level, goody two shoes, waltzed into THE OsCorp tower, sabotaged all of your significant research, killed some of my best men and just escape unscathed without a scratch on his body?" Pierce asked in a mocking tone as Norman could only look down.
"Yes."
"I-Norman... Look." Pierce was at loss for words as he rubbed his temples in annoyance. "Look Norman, I pay you to see results, I want my shit done. How you do it is none of my concern. I gave you immunity from any kind of investigation into your cesspool, I gave you some of my best men, my best soldiers for both of your benefits. I did for the betterment of society."
'Bullshit.' Norman cursed in his head but could say nothing. "You did to keep an eye on me."
"To keep you from going against your words. It was working out for the both of us until now!"
"You infested you spied into my ranks! You don't even work for the shield, do you?!"
"Watch what you say, Osborne." Pierce said as his men who were in the corner pointed their guns at Norman. "Who I work for is none of your business. I paid you funded you because you were useful to me. Now that you have let me down again what reason do I have not to erase you?"
"...I... Because I am the only one who can create the formula you need."
"Not true-"
"Richards denied you so you killed him. Reed would deny you too, you are helpless against him. The less said about Stark the better, after Obadiah Stark just told you to fuck off." Norman said as he spat out. "Struker and Trask are amateurs who can only create abominations, you need me, Pierce, because only I can give you the perfect serum you need you fucking piece of sh-Ahh!"
Norman was sent tumbling into his desk as Pierce socked him in the face.
"For your sake, I hope your confidence is in the right place, Norman." Pierce huffed as he straighten his expensive suit. "Or next time it wouldn't be just a punch to the face."
Pierce crouched in front of Norman as he grabbed him by the hair and turned his head towards him.
"You have a week to give the results I want. Otherwise... You know better.*
Pierce let go as he stood up once again straightening his suit.
"Good evening, gentlemen."
He nodded at the Osborn staff as he left along with his men.
"Are you okay Mr Osborne-." A man with round spectacles approached but Norman pushed him away.
"Damn it... damn it all! Damn you Spider-Man!" Norman screamed as he grabbed the chair and smashed his table in rage. "Damn him! Damn him!"
"Boss-" A guard tried to stop him but Norman smashed the chair across his face.
"Shut the fuck up!" He screamed in rage as pulverized the man's face with the foot of the steel chair. "Fuck you! Fuck Pierce! Fuck everybody!"
Otto didn't say anything as he looked away from the scene in front of him. Connor opened his mouth trying to stop him but Otto stopped him shaking his head.
"hah... hah..." Norman panted as he wiped the blood off his face. He tightened his tie before walking out of his office.
"Otto! Connors! Come! We have a lot of work to do!"
------
"Awaa." Peter yawned as stretched his back. He has been copped up in the lab for three straight days.
He had decided to dump school altogether for three days under the pretence that he was sick. Only May and Gwen knew what he was up to. His research on the three subjects had reached a critical stage and he didn't what any distractions at this stage.
But he didn't ditch his family and sorta-girlfriend altogether. He facetimed them to let them know that he was alive and kicking to not make them worry.
May and Gwen were not amused that he was working non-stop but both understood him. He was trying to secure a good future and they were supportive of his decisions. They just didn't need to know the grim details of his plans though.
*Beep*
Peter was startled a bit as he heard a beep from the machine.
"Peter. It's done." Eryl said as Peter nearly fell out of his chair as he rushed towards the machine.
"Animal experiments have been successful, Rubble, the Siberian husky, not only recovered from malnourishment and canine distemper but he shows signs of unusual higher intelligence than most of the other dogs as the same breed as his." Eryl explained. "There were slight symptoms of rashes and buildup of pus under the skin in the first two test subjects but there are no hiccups whatsoever in the latest formula. I also took the liberty to test in on chimpanzees and the results have been positive."
"Yes!" Peter cheered as he retrieved the super-soldier serum from the machine. "Finally, it's done. Also... name the chimpanzee Caesar and keep a close eye on his progress."
"Got it."
"Now to do this." Peter said as he filled 8 Vials with the serum.
"Are you sure, Peter?"
"One hundred percent." He replied as he connected the vials to the robotic arms. He removed his shirt and pant as he lay on the table with only skin-tight shorts.
"My body is ready ma'am."
"...That sounded so wrong." Eryl felt that her intelligence has been challenged as she tried to understand what was going through her master's head. "... I'll start with the process. I have studied the original files on the first super soldier project that gave us Captain American and I have improvised a lot. The technology was still in its early stage at that time, but with my modifications, I can guarantee that you will retain 98.94% of the enhancement that the super-soldier serum has to offer and the process will be a lot less painful."
"It's still going to hurt right? Well, figures." Peter shrugged as Eryl took control of the robotic arms and strapped Peter to the table so that he doesn't struggle during the procedure. The arms have a cloth from him to keep between his teeth so that he doesn't bite his tongue due to the pain.
"Unfortunately... Or fortunately depending on your preference, yes." Eryl replied honestly as the needles approached Peter. "It will... as humans call it..."
"Hurt like a bitch."
"...Fuck."
------
"Are you sure, Sir? We can request some time for human testing sir! Testing it on yourself is too risky-" A scientist, Norman's assistant began but was silent as Norman walked into the chamber.
"It's too late. Besides, this will work out fabulously as I have worked on this formula personally." Norman smirked as he leaned inside the pod. "According to my calculations, there isn't a single chance of this going wrong."
(AN: There he goes... raising all the flags.)
"If you say so." The man gulped but didn't say anything as he turned to the computer and pressed enter on the keyboard. "Process starting in..."
------
"Relax your muscles Peter, take deep breaths." Eryl said as the needles approached Peter. "It will all be over before you know it."
------
""Five""
""Four""
Green gas filled Norman's chamber as he began inhaling the gaseous form of the thrum he made. HeHisyes shot wide open as he began convulsing.
""Three""
""Two""
Peter gritted his teeth, digging them into the cloth as needles penetrated his skin. He could feel the serum being injected into his veins as a robotic arm with what appeared like a heavy-duty projector hit him with vita-rays activating the thrum that was running through his veins now.
""One""
"Ahhhhhh!" Peter and Norman screamed as excruciating pain rocked their system. Change was coming for them.
For the better or for worse... that remains to be seen...
------
Here. Another gift for your, since I was feeling generous today.
I read the comments on the last chapter and I was honestly surprised that so many people were not happy about Peter killing the guards. I mean I can understand that it may have been unnecessary gore but what I don't understand is how you can call them innocent.
Norman has been doing shady shit for a long time. So he is safe to say he has dealt with his fair share of snitches and since he has dealt with them, he obviously isn't going to employ people with opposing moral values to his to safeguard his dirty secrets.
Also, is the conversation of good and bad alignment of mob character is something I don't understand.
When you play Assassin's Creed, you have to kill Templar's (mobs). Not everybody is the same and I understand, some may have no choice but to play the bad guys but does that really matter in the scheme of things. They are on the opposite side so they have to die, or you die. As simple as that? I know this may seem shallow but you aren't going to ask...
"Hey, buddy are you good evil, neutral evil or chaotic evil or have you been forced to do this? Cause I seriously don't wanna spill any innocent blood.. Boo-Hoo"
Seriously, don't try that in a real fight unless you what a bullet lodged in your head.
MC isn't Ghost Rider if he was he may have spared the 'innocent'. They were on opposite sides and he didn't want any witnesses reporting his ass and it worked perfectly.
Only Norman saw him and when he said that to Pierce. He called bullshit on it.
I've ranted enough. I hope you enjoyed the chapter cause I sure am enjoying dishing this out!
