Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Skye in the Rebellious Phase
After listening quietly, Peggy Carter was stunned before sighing, "Your words are truly harsh."
Intellectually, though, she found herself agreeing with Thor.
Thor shook his head. "It's not that I'm harsh; it's realistic. In my opinion, as long as it doesn't betray humanity, a superhero shouldn't be held back by constraints. That way, we can face bigger threats head-on. Earth could face true catastrophe in a few years. If we don't prevent it, at least 3.5 billion people will perish, reduced to ashes. At worst, the rest will be wiped out as well."
No one could guarantee that Thanos would limit himself to half. What if he changes his policy and goes further?
"In the face of such a global crisis, I don't want anyone holding me back. And I certainly don't want those who benefit from our protection undermining us from behind."
Peggy's eyes narrowed slightly. "So, that's why you asked Skye to gather this information for you as a trump card?"
Thor nodded. "Exactly. Sure, fists are more persuasive than words, but it's infuriating to have people pulling us down with their agendas all the time. I'll release this information at the right moment—before the ultimate battle. That way, we'll handle what needs handling without hesitation."
Peggy nodded firmly. "I trust you and will take care of everything."
At that moment, Skye handed Thor a USB flash drive. "Here's another file you requested. This is the only copy, so keep it safe—and don't let anyone know I gave it to you!"
After all, Skye is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and helping Thor with this could be seen as a betrayal. But if even the legendary Peggy Carter didn't object, then… well, Skye thought, there can't be anything wrong with it.
Thor accepted the flash drive, nodding with satisfaction. "Thanks. If there's anything you need, I'll help however I can."
Skye rolled her eyes and smiled playfully. "Well, I've never had a boyfriend, so maybe you could do me a favor…"
Teasing me now, huh? Thor chuckled and gave her a quick hug. "Alright, I'll take you home tonight!"
"Ah!" Skye squealed, squirming out of his grip, her face flushing. "Never mind! Aunt Peggy would kill me!"
Thor gave her a mocking look. "Coward!"
Skye shot back a glare. "You old antique! Aren't you a little ancient to be dating younger women?"
He suddenly felt her image of him start to crumble. Still, she had helped him a lot, so Thor took out a communicator and handed it to her.
"This one's been modified. If you run into anything you can't handle, press this button, and I'll hear it within two galaxies. There's not much in this world I can't take care of."
Skye raised an eyebrow. "Alright then. In that case, I want to be a superhero. Can you help me with that?"
Thor looked at her thoughtfully. "Well, that depends."
Skye's eyes widened with excitement. "Really? Do I have some hidden superpower? How do I awaken it?"
Wow, eager much? he thought. He didn't actually know much about Skye's background and wasn't exactly hardcore fan of Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. so he decided to improvise. He tapped her lightly on the forehead with his finger. "What kind of superpower are you hoping for? Haven't you heard? The poor rely on mutations; the rich rely on tech. Which one are you?"
Skye blinked, confused.
"You know Iron Man, right? He's just an ordinary guy, and look at him now—a superhero known worldwide. Are you planning to ask him for a suit of armor?"
Skye sighed, disappointed. "Forget it. Stark is obsessed with his tech; he won't share it. And besides, his suits require insane skill to operate. Just look at Rhodes—he only turns the armor into a clunky weapon platform."
Thor smiled, recognizing her sharp observation. She wasn't wrong. Stark's Iron Man suits were full of imaginative weaponry—lasers, nanotechnology, and more. By contrast, War Machine's combat style was more like a multi-functional tank, loaded with conventional weapons but lacking Iron Man's finesse.
Not to mention Stark's suit upgrades had all sorts of strange features: refrigeration, drying, even urine purification…
He shuddered at the thought. Drink your own filtered pee? No, thanks.
All in all, Iron Man's armor followed a clear upgrade path: MK2, MK3, MK4… while War Machine's progression looked more like: MK2, MK2 Tweaked, MK2 Modified…
The Anti-Hulk suit was no exception. In Stark's hands, it could tame the Hulk. In Banner's, though, it was almost like a stumbling block.
Skye took the communicator and left, pleased.
Later that night, Thor got an unexpected call from her.
"BANG—BANG—!"
He looked up to see large, person-shaped holes on the roof and the floor above. Skye's eyes went wide in horror.
"I just wanted to test it! Did you really have to come crashing through my house?" she wailed, nearly in tears.
She knew Thor was fast, but seeing him burst in—pajamas or not—was… too much. She had spent years saving up to renovate this house!
"Oh. I was just worried you were in danger, so I rushed here immediately. I didn't have time to knock," Thor said earnestly.
"Just testing the communicator, huh?" he mused to himself. "Guess it's like the ancient king setting signal fires just to test if the lords would respond…"
Skye gave him a dark look. She had realized quickly that Thor wasn't quite the shining hero he appeared to be. If she complained too much about the damage, he might just "generously" offer to move her to his lavish Manor
…
In the darkened room, a deep voice suddenly echoed: "It's time to move the plan forward."
Another voice, equally sinister, replied, "Hail HYDRA!"
