chapter 7
7 – High Elf
“Druid?”
“A human is a druid?”
Gaul Crud is a druid.
As Pii’s claim echoed, a murmur spread among the elves.
Some nodded their heads with serious expressions, while others raised their voices in disbelief.
The opinions were divided among the elves, and the chaotic atmosphere did not calm down easily.
‘I should just stay still.’
So I lay quietly like a dead mouse.
There was no doubt that the argument was about me, but wouldn’t I have to know something to interfere or not?
In this situation, it was better to stay quiet than to step out without any sense.
I was in a situation where I couldn’t do anything I wanted because of the injury I suffered from the monster.
‘Pii, hang in there.’
Anyway, Pii had to win the verbal fight for me to survive.
I silently cheered for Pii and watched the situation.
Then, a particularly loud voice came from among the elves.
“The druid in the legend was an elf. There is no way a human can be a druid.”
Right, right.
A lot of applause erupted among the elves.
The druid I knew was a character in a game that fought against demons, but the druid in this world was a famous elf that came down from the legend.
I turned my head and looked at our small lawyer.
Pii frowned as if he didn’t like the situation and made a rebuttal.
[That’s because the elves made the legend! A druid is a being chosen by the goddess of nature! It has nothing to do with race!]
Some of the elves looked at Pii’s rebuttal with a ‘really?’ expression.
Gaining strength from that, Pii raised his voice even more and continued his argument.
[And not long ago, a divine message came down! The goddess of nature summoned a transmigrator to this world! That divine message pointed to Ghaul Crude, who is here! Ghaul is definitely a human chosen by the goddess!]
Pii’s defense ended and the elves started to buzz again.
Hundreds of eyes fixed on me were unbearably burdensome.
‘The goddess of nature summoned me, and the elves knew that.’
When I summarized the situation with the given information, that was the result.
How could this be.
I quietly swallowed my saliva.
‘So that was the goddess of nature.’
The hallucination I heard before I died after fighting the half-moon bear.
That beautiful but prickly hallucination was the goddess of this world.
‘By the name of nature, I summon you.’ She said something like that, so there was no doubt.
I felt a chilly shiver.
If that voice was the goddess of nature, then Pii’s claim was wrong from the root.
‘I’m not going to be a druid.’
The goddess’s voice I heard was filled with deep hatred.
Even if I ignored her sharp tone, I could tell by her aggressive word choice.
The goddess of nature hated me terribly. The reason she summoned me to this world was to make me pay for killing the trees.
There was no way she would designate me as a druid.
The elf who was arguing with Pii noticed that to some extent and pointed at me and said.
“The trust said, ‘You summoned the transgressor, so deal with it yourself.'”
[Yeah! This Gaul Crud here is the transgressor―]
“―The trust didn’t say anything about that human being a druid.”
[Ouch!!]
It was a sharp rebuttal.
At the same time, it was a remark that broke Bii’s patience.
The tree spirit, who couldn’t stand it anymore, shouted in anger.
[You didn’t say to kill him either!!]
The forest shook with the scream that tore the mana.
Bii’s face, when I looked back, was pitiful.
His cute face was twisted, and tears of frustration rolled down his eyes.
What was so frustrating? What was he so angry about?
I reached out my hand to calm Bii down.
Bii grabbed my hand and shivered slightly.
“You’re completely hooked on a human.”
“I knew you were a strange spirit, but… I didn’t expect this much….”
The elves murmured as if they were serious, looking at us.
They didn’t seem to like the sight of a tree spirit who was devoted to a human.
They must have felt like they were facing a daughter who had avenged her family’s enemy.
It was bitter to understand the elves’ position.
“I need to get away from that guy.”
“I can’t stand to watch this anymore.”
Eventually, a few elves came down from the village and approached us.
Pii came into my arms, and Rishia held my hand.
I had no strength left to resist because of the injuries I suffered from the monster.
Would I die like this, falling down?
That was when I clenched my teeth at the thought.
“Everyone, stop.”
A sharp female voice came from somewhere.
It was a pleasant but cold voice, somewhat similar to the goddess of nature.
The elves who were coming towards us flinched and stopped.
What now?
I turned my head to find the owner of the voice.
“I came here after receiving a support request, and I see that the monster is dead and you’re only arguing.”
A group of elves was standing at the entrance of the village.
They were wearing black leather clothes and standing casually, looking like gangsters from a crime movie.
They were different from the ordinary elves in every way.
I could tell at once that they were special elves.
“High elves are here!”
“They arrived already….”
They are high elves.
I was a bit surprised by the appearance of the high elves, which was different from what I expected.
I wonder if the appearance of the high elves is a blessing or a curse for me.
I watched them without letting go of the tension.
“How pathetic to see elves fighting with their tongues. Lord Trias would cry if he saw this, you brats.”
The one who spoke was a beautiful blonde elf.
Unlike the other elves who had greenish hair, she had smooth golden hair that looked like it was made of gold.
She looked like she had just become an adult, but the force she exuded was no joke.
She was not an ordinary woman, both in appearance and speech.
I was not the only one who felt that way, as the noisy elves in the village were all silent.
“Aren’t you ashamed?”
The elves flinched and backed away at her aggressive tone.
At that reaction, I turned my eyes to look at the other elves in the village.
Most of the elves looked respectful or fearful of the high elves, but some of them frowned and showed their displeasure openly.
It seemed that the elves had different reactions to the high elves.
This looked like a good opportunity to dig deeper.
As I was racking my brain to find a way, the blonde elf who came closer looked down at me and said.
“From what I hear, this human saved this village.”
The blonde elf tapped the ground with her spear and looked around.
Then she spat out her tongue as if she was disgusted and growled at the elves.
“Even if you can’t lower your head, you shouldn’t think of hitting your head.”
It was a refreshing remark that seemed to clear the stifling feeling in my chest.
Pii, who was in my arms, nodded fervently and expressed his agreement.
It was as if he was saying, ‘That’s exactly what I’m saying!’
“This human may look especially hateful, but don’t you think you should uphold the basic principles of being an elf?”
The blonde elf finished her speech and looked around as if seeking approval.
The elves of the village avoided the blonde elf’s gaze and hung their heads.
They looked like they were scolded for trying to do something bad.
From the awkward reaction of the elves, I realized one thing.
‘They were planning to kill me after I fought the monster.’
I understood why Pii was so angry.
The elves were shameless enough to think of killing me.
How hateful were humans, how monstrous did I look to them?
I was so incredulous that I couldn’t even get angry.
“Don’t do anything stupid. If you want to live a little longer.”
The blonde elf who overpowered the audience looked down at me and said.
Her deep green eyes glared at my body with disgust.
She sided with me, but she didn’t seem to like me either.
She snorted and licked her tongue, then spoke coldly to the elves.
“Heal him.”
The blonde elf who gave the order passed by me and entered the village.
Following her, the high elves who were standing at the entrance began to move.
I stared blankly at the blonde elf who was getting farther away.
Through her blonde hair that fluttered in the wind, I saw a red and gorgeous camellia tattoo.
A blonde elf with a tattoo who exuded an overwhelming charisma.
‘What the hell is she…’
She’s really freaking cool.
I couldn’t take my eyes off her back.
