chapter 7
7 – Selam-2
“Draining my value?”
What value is a person who suddenly fell in this world? Even if it was worth it, in this world, it seemed that there were no restrictions on a man meeting many women.
At least once in a relationship, do we need that kind of restriction?
“Many men will think that way. Meeting a woman who does not fit the rank is to lower the rank of a man.”
However, Adrian comforted me in a calm voice, as if he truly cared about me.
“…How?”
“A gladiator cannot be called a good woman even with empty words.”
“Why? Cool?”
If it were Earth, it would have taken a lot of effort to meet a woman with that kind of looks.
I had never heard of a flaw in my appearance, but putting everything else aside, meeting a woman with Dana’s appearance would have been necessary.
“I think it’s because I haven’t seen him fight in swords. I don’t know, but I heard he’s the champion of the League of Steel? Isn’t that a good thing?”
“You mean you saw a sword fight?”
Adrian covered his mouth with both hands.
“Don’t go to a place like that… If you can. All the women there are rough and rude. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but even there, there must have been people who spit obscenities and s*xual harassment about you.”
“I didn’t, at least I didn’t hear that with my own ears. I’ve heard it once here.”
“…I really hate him too, but in the end, it’s a problem that Selam’s man did. For that, I’ll apologize on his behalf.”
“That, there’s no need for that.”
“Thank you. You are very considerate.”
I was just spitting out my impressions, but Adrian gave a small smile as if he was truly grateful.
“Anyway, being a gladiator isn’t a good job to get along with. A knight would be better. Even if you’re quite like the look, it’s common not to meet a gladiator.”
“What’s so important about that?”
“If you sew the first button wrong, other girls will think that your value is ‘like a gladiator’.”
It seemed that the conversation would not proceed if I refuted each one. I shut my mouth and listened to Adrian.
“The gladiator, of course, has no manners or culture, and she doesn’t have much time to spend on you, and she doesn’t have the power. She’ll be stingy with spending the money she earns on you.”
I held back the objections that were about to come out of my throat. Money is what I need to earn, and even if you don’t have manners, you won’t be able to openly spit double curses in front of me.
I just need to set the time. It wasn’t even a job that required me to work all day, so it wouldn’t be a problem to just meet for a while and go on a date.
“Once you set your standards to be a gladiator, you and the other women who see you will also fit that level. Women are jealous and violent, so they will show it without any doubt.”
“How?”
“If you receive a small present and have relations with a gladiator, other people will give you just that much gift. If you put up with the gladiator’s rude behavior, you will want other women to be rude to you and put up with it. “
I understand that there is some logic established in Adrian’s head. However, since I couldn’t understand the premise, I couldn’t agree with his words in the end.
“If that standard is established, other women dating you will rather start making demands of you. Why is that woman doing only that much work and hugging her, but she doesn’t hug herself? Swearing behind her back or suddenly turning violent you can do it.”
It seemed like I had heard enough.
“So, should I meet the first woman well? As much as possible, as rich, strong, and obedient to me?”
“That’s it! You finally understand.”
It was a sarcastic remark, but Adrian seemed to think that I ‘understood’ his words.
I understood the meaning, but I couldn’t sympathize with the opinion.
“It’s okay. I don’t know what kind of girl I’ll meet later, but right now it’s unconditionally a gladiator, Dana. Well, if this is a kick or something, that’s it.”
“You don’t have too much confidence. Humility is not a bad virtue to have, but if it’s too much, it becomes poison.”
“…”
“Gladiators are people who will never meet a man in their entire life. If they are from another league, they might have a woman they meet briefly, even out of curiosity, but the League of Steel? No idea.”
In this world, just by being born as a man, can he enjoy that much privilege and status?
Actually, I didn’t have to go far. I thought it was good that I was receiving it, but this Selam itself was no different from a huge lump of preferential treatment.
“Most of the people in that Colosseum might have seen a man for the first time thanks to you. But, refusal? They’re going to run nasty. They’ll give up their liver and gallbladder to sleep with you somehow.”
Suddenly, the moment she was embarrassed by me was pictured in her mind. The way her easy-going face was full of lust, the scene where she would do anything just because I was a man.
Although it was cheesy, I felt a strange sense of desolation.
At the moment of winning her victory in the Colosseum, she was definitely the queen who dominated the moment, a celebrity who drew everyone’s attention, and a warrior who fought and won.
Will even Dana show a desperate side like Adrian said?
“You… You might like it right now, because you’ve won the woman you want. But, dating is real. How many more years do you think you’ll like her? Three months? Three years? No matter how long, ten years. You won’t be able to pass it.”
“Someday…Love may grow cold.”
“From my point of view, I don’t understand why you truly love a woman so much… But anyway, love obscures emotions.”
Adrian carefully placed his hand on my shoulder.
“When the time comes, if you try to meet another woman, you will only meet a woman of that level. You must meet a woman of that level without feeling the feelings of love.”
However, that was not important to me.
“It’s not like there weren’t people who thought like you. However, all those people regretted it. I don’t think you and I have that much of an age difference, but… It’s advice from the bottom of my heart.”
Adrian seemed to be sincere. In fact, I was also grateful for letting me know what the men of this world are thinking.
This is the number of people who kindly guide newcomers everywhere and give sincere advice.
If I had met him in the hallway, he would have just clapped his hands for me to try harder. And, after drawing my value down infinitely within it, he must have ridiculed it to his heart’s content with his friends.
If you think about it again, this friend might be the man who has the highest level of personality that a man in this world can have.
I wonder if the people out there have uglier thoughts and notions that I don’t understand in their heads.
“It’s scary…”
“I thought about it well. Then I’ll give it up…”
“No, that’s not what I was talking about. Well, you said dating is free, right? I’ll have to find some time later.”
“How the hell did you hear me…”
Adrian lowered his head and sighed, but I couldn’t concede either.
“I’m hungry. It seems it’s almost time to eat… What time is meal time here?”
“There are a lot of chefs on standby, so whenever you need a snack… Well, really. It’s meal time. Would you like to eat here or in the restaurant?”
“Can you choose that?”
I thought this was a kind of training camp or dormitory, but it seemed to be a more luxurious facility than I thought. Does it feel like a luxury hotel where any man can stay?
“If you say you want to eat here, Selam’s staff will prepare a meal here. It’s convenient, but the food might get a little cold… It’s lonely.”
“Aha.”
“If you go to a restaurant, there will be a lot of other people. There are people who don’t have very good personalities… But most of them are kind, so they will treat you well.”
Actually, it wasn’t a familiar feeling to do bad things or be mean with that appearance.
Same goes for the guy who had a fight in the hallway. He was saying things that a bully would say in circles, but his appearance was at the level of a kid.
“Thank you. By the way, why are you being so nice to me?”
Adrian hardened his face. Maybe, I asked something I shouldn’t have asked.
“I wanted to ask you something. It’s not something I want to talk about right now… Let’s talk about it later. Anyway, I think it will take more conversation than I thought to tell you about this place.”
I nodded, then opened the door and came out.
The men, who had seemed unconcerned until they came inside, gradually felt dangerous.
The place called Selam was much better than I thought. It is a place where the work is not hard or shameful, and there is no need to work at all.
It is not like receiving the strength of a hero and leaving to fight the demon king, or becoming a foreign worker and being rolled around like a dog.
Everyone, no, if not everyone, most of them respected me, and if I didn’t like other people, I felt like I could just sit in my room and read a book.
Compared to when he fell on the street in front of a bar right now, he is enjoying an unimaginable luxury.
However, I couldn’t control the anxiety and frustration that weighed down my chest. The walk to the restaurant was heavy.
