I Became an All-round Artist

Chapter 2: Rookie Season

"So you were hiding here."

A voice rang out beside Lin Yuan's ear, and immediately, a handsome, fair face blocked out the brilliant starry sky in front of him.

"Jianyi."

Lin Yuan instinctively called out the other person's name.

This tall, handsome boy was Jianyi, Lin Yuan’s classmate from elementary, middle, and university—his true close friend.

Now, Jianyi had reached out and pulled Lin Yuan up from the ground.

Immediately, Lin Yuan felt a weight on his shoulder; a women's jacket was draped over him.

He turned his head and saw a beautiful smiling face.

It was a girl with long hair cascading over her shoulders, lightly made up, a picture of elegance.

"Xia Fan."

Just like when he saw Jianyi, Lin Yuan instinctively called out her name.

Xia Fan, like Jianyi, was also Lin Yuan’s classmate from elementary, middle, and university—another close friend.

"It’s windy at night, remember to wear a jacket when you go out."

Xia Fan advised Lin Yuan, even though she, Jianyi, and everyone running on the playground were all dressed in summer attire.

"Okay."

Lin Yuan responded.

But after just one sentence, Jianyi and Xia Fan both looked at him with a hint of suspicion in their eyes.

"Why do I feel like something's off with you?"

Jianyi asked.

Although Xia Fan didn’t say anything, her expression indicated that she shared Jianyi's view.

"Because I’m not entirely Lin Yuan anymore."

Lin Yuan said with a smile, feeling that his explanation was quite objective. He had inherited half of the original owner’s traits—at least his feelings towards family and friends, his physical appearance, and his body were the same as the original owner’s.

"Did a ghost possess you?"

Jianyi laughed heartily, seemingly not taking it seriously.

Xia Fan’s expression also relaxed inexplicably.

Lin Yuan breathed a sigh of relief.

This way, he could comfortably avoid further explanations.

Since Xia Fan and Jianyi had grown up with Lin Yuan, they were well aware of his situation.

They had always taken care of Lin Yuan’s fragile health since childhood.

Emotionally, Lin Yuan didn’t want to deceive them but had to engage in some deception.

"Mr. Lin, let me be objective."

Jianyi said seriously, "Being a 'novelist' is one of the top ten most desired professions among young people across continents. In our Qinzhou alone, countless people strive for it. Trying to make a name for yourself in this industry just based on a fleeting interest is quite difficult, so there's no need to question life on a windy night on the grass."

"Novelist..."

Lin Yuan’s eyes flickered slightly.

Jianyi had a reason for mentioning novel writing.

Because not long ago, the original owner had developed an interest in writing novels and had participated in an online writing contest with a manuscript of a hundred thousand words, attempting to debut as a 'novelist.'

Such contests were quite lively.

If a 'novelist' succeeded, not only would the winner's work get a precious publishing opportunity, but if sales reached a certain standard, it could also be adapted into anime, film, or even games.

This was the dream of countless people aiming to become novelists!

Most importantly, it was very profitable!

But unfortunately...

Because such activities were too popular, and the original owner’s novel-writing talent was average, his entry was eliminated in the first round of the contest.

Jianyi inferred that Lin Yuan was alone on the playground in the cold wind due to the failure of the contest.

However...

Neither Lin Yuan nor the original owner cared about the contest’s result.

The original owner chose to commit suicide, and the failure of the contest had nothing to do with it. After all, participating in the contest was just a casual attempt.

What if he earned money?

That was the mindset with which he approached it.

The original owner always thought about graduating early and earning money.

He worked hard out of guilt towards his family.

He felt that his older sister, younger sister, and mother had sacrificed too much for him, so he wanted to compensate them as much as he could.

Becoming a singer was not only about dreams.

More importantly, this industry could make a lot of money!

Don’t talk about how "dreams shouldn’t be tainted by money."

For the original owner, if tainting dreams could bring money, he hoped his dreams would be corroded and full of holes as soon as possible—

So he could buy a beautiful dress for his younger sister.

Free his older sister from her burdens.

Make his mother’s life easier.

"Don’t listen to Jianyi."

Xia Fan thought Lin Yuan was upset about the failure of the contest.

But she didn’t advise him to give up; instead, she encouraged him to persist: "Actually, there are many similar opportunities. For example, in January each year, the top publishing house on Blue Star, Silver Blue Library, holds the 'Supernova' novel award. You could try participating."

"Come on, Xia Fan."

Jianyi facepalmed: "Lin Yuan can’t even pass a minor contest; you want him to challenge Supernova?"

"It’s all about participation."

Xia Fan said with some guilt, not really expecting Lin Yuan to succeed. She just hoped Lin Yuan could find something to do. Since his voice problem and switch to the composition department, Lin Yuan’s attitude hadn’t been great.

Jianyi lacked Xia Fan’s sensitivity.

He was earnestly explaining the basics to Lin Yuan: "Even I, who don’t follow the novel scene, know how terrifying Supernova is. Contestants are usually seasoned veterans who’ve been working towards their debut dreams for years, and sometimes even authors who have debuted but aren’t doing well. For many, they are considered 'newcomers' once they change their pen names or identities…"

In summary: Supernova is a battleground of experts.

"Got it, got it."

Lin Yuan interrupted Jianyi with a smile but quietly remembered the Supernova details.

In this art-rich world, there seemed to be many channels for gaining recognition.

But he didn’t have a novel yet.

He needed the system’s support to provide it.

However, Lin Yuan needed to figure out how to release the song "Life Like Summer Flowers." He looked towards Xia Fan—

Xia Fan was a vocal music student.

Before Lin Yuan switched majors, they were classmates, and Xia Fan’s singing talent was almost on par with Lin Yuan’s before he lost his voice.

But Xia Fan was just a student.

Releasing a song as a student?

That would likely involve online channels, which would be too slow. Without proper promotion, the song might just sink without a trace.

"What’s up?"

Xia Fan noticed Lin Yuan looking at her and felt a bit puzzled: "Do you want something to eat or drink? I can go get it for you."

"Not that."

Lin Yuan said: "I have a friend... well, a friend, who wrote a song and wants to release it but doesn’t know how. Do you have any recommendations for channels?"

"Are you out of your mind?"

Jianyi scoffed: "Didn’t you sell yourself for fifty thousand Yuan before? For a song, you should go to your behind-the-scenes Starshine Entertainment company. Such a big company is a waste if not utilized."

Lin Yuan was taken aback, then realized.

After the original owner was admitted to Qinzhou Music Academy, he showcased an amazing vocal talent and was signed by a well-regarded entertainment company with a signing fee of fifty thousand Yuan.

The original owner needed money badly, so despite knowing the fee was quite cheap, he signed an eight-year contract without hesitation, immediately handing the signing fee to his mother!

But no one expected...

That talented young man could no longer sing shortly after signing the contract.

The entertainment company that signed Lin Yuan could only consider it bad luck and abandoned him.

Probably aware of Lin Yuan’s family situation, the company didn’t ask for compensation or anything but never mentioned contract termination either, probably having forgotten Lin Yuan among their signed artists.

"Wait a minute."

While Lin Yuan was thinking, Jianyi suddenly came to his senses: "Mr. Lin, when did you have a friend that Xia Fan and I don’t know?"

"Creating friends out of thin air."

Xia Fan covered her mouth, stifling a laugh, then added: "If you want to release a song, there’s an opportunity coming up. In a few days, it will be the annual 'Newcomer Season' in the music industry. Major entertainment companies will be pushing hard, provided you meet the company's registration standards..."

"Got it."

Lin Yuan also smiled.

This was the artist’s utopia, the ideal country where the entertainment industry flourishes!

As long as you have the ability, the red carpet to fame is laid out all the way to your doorstep!

The music industry’s Newcomer Season.

This was one of the channels for gaining fame, a rule set up by Blue Star to cultivate musical talent:

Every November, Blue Star holds a Newcomer Season event across various regions!

During this time, senior musicians will intentionally not release albums or singles, temporarily halting their activities to give newcomers some space.

Some seniors even actively promote promising newcomers during November.

Major entertainment companies also seize this opportunity to push new artists, and newcomers give their all to stand out!

Lin Yuan originally had a chance to debut during the Newcomer Season.

But now, he could only aim to debut as a lyricist and songwriter.

However, Lin Yuan was no longer the original owner, so debuting as a lyricist and songwriter actually made him happier.

On Blue Star, the revenue split for new musicians is:

For songs, the company generally takes eighty percent of the earnings from downloads or listens,

while the remaining twenty percent is shared between the singer and the lyricist/composer. Arrangement and production costs are usually covered by the company.

The exact ratio depends on the contract.

Typically, the singer and composer get the larger share.

Aside from the company’s large portion, Lin Yuan doesn’t need to share with too many people since he handles both lyrics and composition, and the arrangement is done by the system. What he needs now is just a channel provided by the company to make a splash during the Newcomer Season and a tool to sing the song.
