I became famous in the interstellar world by fortune-telling

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Professional Reporting

Yun Mo lay down for a while, pondering the situation in front of her.

Right now, every two hours, the robots would drag her up to check her body.

This kind of harassment was endlessly annoying and detrimental to her mental and physical health.

Yun Mo sneered at their behavior.

When Qin Mu came to check on her, Yun Mo asked faintly, "Dr. Qin, doesn't your conscience hurt when you arrange things this way?"

Qin Mu ran a hand through his hair, took small, prideful steps away, and left her with a cold, indifferent back view.

The store on StarNet, after the first order, had received no further messages.

That buyer—a "big cabbage"—who knows if they got scared or got caught up in something else, didn't even bother leaving a five-star review!

It seemed that, in the short term, supporting herself through entrepreneurship was out of the question.

Thinking longer term, the plan was to go to university.

But because of her status as the sister of a Blue Planet diplomat, the major universities on Central Star had already explicitly refused her admission.

Search results on Qiandu indicated that the decision to fire interstellar missiles at Blue Planet had been jointly advocated and voted on by the three major generals: Tang Jianmo, Aunt Mei Shana, and Mark Jieyu.

The three of them had graduated from the Federation's First Comprehensive University, the Federation's First Military Academy, and the Federation's Political Academy, respectively.

Logically speaking, interest groups centered around these three schools would also refuse to accept her.

However, she wasn't entirely without opportunities.

Each year, the Federation's major military academies recruited not only new students through normal admissions but also through special recruitment.

Although there were often shady dealings in special recruitments, the Central Star still cared about appearances.

Aggression aside, on the surface, they still had to act like they were treating people equally, and they wouldn't deprive her of opportunities she was supposed to have.

Whether she could get in depended on her own abilities.

Rationally, Yun Mo had no desire to enroll in a military academy. Their strict management was at odds with her professional characteristics.

But for now, there was no better option. Only the military academies didn't charge tuition fees and even offered subsidies.

Yun Mo took a deep breath. Economic needs determine the superstructure. She had already metaphorically knelt under the military's boots of financial incentives for some time; one more time wouldn't hurt.

Yun Mo browsed through the personal profiles of the generals one by one, checking out the details of their affiliated military academies.

"Wen Tenghui?"

Her fingertip brushed across this person's photo, and the corner of her mouth curled mockingly. "Interesting."

Among the Federation's five major generals, Wen Tenghui was the only one who had voted against using lethal weapons against Blue Planet.

Yun Mo's lips curved slightly, and her fingers lingered on the page for "Rochester Military Academy." According to the profile, Wen Tenghui was on the school board for this academy.

Three black buttons spun quickly in the palm of her hand. It was the last day to apply for special recruitment at Rochester Military Academy.

"This one it is," Yun Mo muttered as she opened the application page.

The website looked legitimate, and there were plenty of programs to choose from—mecha design, weapon development, information technology, infantry combat...

After all, politicians still needed to keep up appearances.

Whether she would be directly rejected or reassigned to another program after applying remained to be seen.

Yun Mo smirked coldly, shaking her head while she skimmed through the programs. Hopefully, there weren't too many idiots on Blue Planet to understand how these unspoken rules worked.

She didn't even bother looking at the program descriptions and directly applied for the infantry combat department, submitting the information.

Why infantry combat?

Because the Federation's overarching strategy toward Blue Planet was undoubtedly unified. They would never allow Blue Planet a chance to rise again.

Her background wouldn't allow her to apply for programs that could pose a security threat to the Federation.

The attitude of Central Star's universities was clear enough: sensitive high-tech fields like weapon design wouldn't be open to any students from Blue Planet.

Infantry combat, however—a program that threw soldiers onto the front lines to be used as expendable interstellar cannon fodder—was exactly the type of field politicians could easily keep under their control.

It was also the most likely option for her to break out of her current predicament.

Besides, she was just a frail girl!

And besides, politicians still had ways to manipulate her career trajectory!

However, the military academy's special recruitment wouldn't start for another month. During the exam period, the school would provide meals and lodging, but during this one-month gap...

After careful consideration, Yun Mo decisively registered for an account on "47City" to find a job that provided room and board.

"Driver? Housekeeper? Restaurant server?" The more she browsed, the darker her expression became.

Jobs suitable for someone her age and requiring no prior experience were scarce. Yun, with her pampered upbringing, had absolutely no experience serving others.

As Yun Mo was mired in gloom, wondering how to fold clothes properly if she ended up doing housework, the large screen in front of her began broadcasting news again.

"Dozens of Blue Planet extremists detonated Level-3 energy blocks at the 'Great World Shopping Center' on Central Star, leaving several shoppers seriously injured..."

"Interstellar suicide bombers... the public is warned to stay vigilant against such behaviors..."

Yun Mo: ...

It wasn't that she was indifferent to her mother planet's misfortune, but actions like these, as unwise as professional reporting, would only give politicians more excuses for exploitation.

Sure enough, it didn't take long for Yun Mo to discover that the information she had registered on "47City" was now marked in bold red letters: "Homeland: Blue Planet."

Known for its efficiency, "47City" had shown hundreds of job matches earlier.

Now... even extending the search radius to ten kilometers, there were only a dozen results.

Were they treating her as a terrorist?!

Yun Mo flopped back on the bed, playing dead—what horrible luck.

She felt like she must've offended Heaven itself this year. Maybe tomorrow she should burn some incense to ward it off.

Oh right, she also needed to donate half of the 164 credits left in her account soon! Otherwise, there'd be karmic retribution—how could she forget that?

That night, Yun Mo felt particularly unrested.

After all, it's impossible for anyone to sleep soundly while being repeatedly harassed by robots.

The next day, however, upon seeing the even gloomier face of Qin Mu, Yun Mo couldn't help but burst into laughter.

"Dr. Qin, you're going to court today, aren't you?"

His appearance made it too obvious—his brows were furrowed with chaotic crisscrossed lines. If she was any judge, he might even have to spend a few days inside.

Qin Mu looked at her with a face full of bad luck. "You're just guessing!"

"What do you think?" Yun Mo raised her eyebrow and crossed her legs on the hospital bed.

"Do you know something?"

Qin Mu asked. He was so unlucky. First thing this morning, he had received a lawyer's letter asserting that the patient in bed two was suing him for giving the wrong medication. And it turned out he really had made a mistake—he was covering a shift that day and hadn't checked properly.

"If you help me out with something, I'll tell you how to get through the afternoon without incident."

Since no one else was around, Yun Mo spoke to Qin Mu at a leisurely pace.

Qin Mu didn't really feel like engaging with her, but he was too stressed to care, so he just followed her lead and asked, "What do you need?"

"I want to work as a server at the Fis Restaurant for a month. Could you vouch for me?"

"Why?"

Qin Mu couldn't help but dig at his ear, thinking he must've misheard.

"Didn't you hear me? I'm from Blue Planet. I have no money and nowhere to go…"

The cold, stern look on Qin Mu's face gradually softened. He'd always thought this annoying girl was just taking advantage of him at the hospital…

But it turned out, she really had no choice.

Had his suggestion to the hospital's central system yesterday to increase her health checks been the wrong thing to do?

Now lost in regret, Qin Mu almost forgot about his own troubles.

Yun Mo rolled her eyes. So he was actually a good-hearted bunny? How big of a heart did someone need to care for others before themselves?

"Well, what do you think?" Yun Mo interrupted his thoughts.

"If you don't have a place to stay, you can live at my house…"

Qin Mu spoke sincerely, wanting to make up for his mistake.

"No, no, no," Yun Mo shook her head firmly.

"Don't worry, I won't charge you rent!" Qin Mu said earnestly.

"No, no, no, it's not about money. It's because… I foresee you being unlucky for a while, and I don't want your bad luck rubbing off on me."

Qin Mu: Damn… take his kindness and feed it to the dogs!

As for why Yun Mo was so poor?

Most of her money was in Blue Planet currency, which could no longer be exchanged... emmmm.
