chapter 53
52 – Stormy Lunchtime -2-
“Who are you?”
When Zion asked with a cold pressure, Clara mumbled her lips.
It was hard to figure out what answer to give to this simple question.
“I’m, I’m Rohan’s sister…”
“His real sister?”
“That…! I’m not…”
Clara wanted to use a stronger word to describe her relationship with Rohan, but this was the best she could manage at the moment.
“Unfortunately, knowing Rohan’s name here doesn’t give you any credibility. You might have just overheard what I said earlier.”
“Auuu…”
“Never mind your attire. If you have a legitimate relationship with Rohan, why were you hiding? A lack of confidence is a sign of untrustworthiness.”
Clara couldn’t easily refute the elf woman’s words.
Of course, many rebuttals came to the girl’s mind. If she hesitated like this and lay down to sleep at night, she would kick her blanket and cry inside, thinking, “I should have said that then!”
But dealing with someone who pushed so aggressively was still difficult for Clara’s nature.
She would rather fight physically.
“I can prove it… by contacting him…”
“Hmm.”
Clara glanced at her phone screen. Sion’s eyes flicked over to it.
A message full of emoticons. Complicated.
For Sion, who had never used a smartphone, it was just a confusing mess.
“I sent a message earlier… My brother will be here soon! I also heard that an elf guest might come…”
“Good. Then assuming your relationship with Rohan is as you say. I’ll ask again. Why were you hiding?”
“That, that was… out of habit…”
Because she was hugging a blanket in her underwear and smelling it.
How could Clara explain that her body had reflexively moved in response to her shameful actions?
Thus, the twin-tailed girl blushed and lowered her gaze.
Sion’s eyes narrowed fiercely, sensing that the other was hiding something.
“You’re not telling me the most important thing.”
“…!”
Startled, Clara lifted her head.
From Sion’s perspective, it was a shot in the dark, but Clara’s reaction only heightened his vigilance.
“Negotiations are off. There’s nothing trustworthy here, so I’ll subdue you first.”
“What!? If you wait, my brother will come…”
“Of course, that might happen. But what if it’s not Rohan who arrives, but your reinforcements?”
“…”
“Don’t resist. I’ll make sure it doesn’t hurt too much.”
Binding her hands or fingers lightly with cloth or cable ties would make it easier to read any rebellious movements.
These items wouldn’t work on someone with magical powers, but without proper restraints, this was the best he could do.
“Stay still.”
With those words, Sion returned the gun he had been holding to its place.
He had drawn it unconsciously, but Sion knew that firing a gun in the academy dormitory was not allowed.
Moreover,
Without a sniper rifle, any other weapon was just the same to Sion.
Step. Step. Step.
As Sion closed the distance, Clara swiftly disappeared and silently moved to the opposite side.
Sion was inwardly impressed by her footwork and speed.
However, in this situation, it was a rule not to show one’s true feelings outwardly.
“I hope you won’t resist.”
“No!”
Before long, the girl held a balisong and a silenced pistol in her hands.
Sion calmly rolled his eyes, carefully examining her weapons.
‘She has a maniacal pistol.’
It was the same model that Sion owned. He found it intriguing.
Moreover, a combination of a balisong and a pistol required considerable skill and dexterity to use simultaneously.
Feeling curious, Sion took another step forward.
As Clara saw him closing the distance, she cried out desperately.
“If you come any closer, I’ll, I’ll restrain you!”
“Are you planning to shoot me in the limbs under the guise of restraint?”
At Sion’s words, Clara was startled and looked at the weapons in her hands.
Clara was no different from Sion. She had unconsciously drawn her pistol.
“I don’t intend to mess up your room.”
With her slender fingers, the girl swiftly folded the balisong.
She didn’t stop there and even hid the pistol.
Sion wondered if the now unarmed girl was planning to engage in hand-to-hand combat.
Swoosh.
Contrary to Sion’s expectations, Clara pulled out something else.
A pitch-black object contrasting with her pale hand.
‘An extra silencer? No, that’s…!’
Sion noticed the magic moving in the object Clara held in her hand.
The dagger she handled so skillfully and the gun she kept hidden were not her main weapons.
This is her true weapon.
Crackle!!!
Sion moved his magic to create a force to counter the weapon.
Thin currents of electricity sprang up in complex patterns all over his body.
.
At the moment Clara decided not to step back any further.
The tension peaked, forcing rough movements upon each other.
Vrrrr! Vrrrr!
A vibration broke the silence of the standoff.
Clara glanced at her phone screen and put the object back.
My brother is calling!
The girl’s excited expression. The fierce momentum from just moments ago was gone, replaced by a lively demeanor.
A bright face that seemed to know nothing of battle.
Thanks to that, Sion felt his energy drain away.
If that was an act, it would be natural to be deceived.
“…Take it so that it can be heard over here.”
Rohan opened the door to the academy dormitory.
Clara and Zion. Only after confirming that neither of them had any injuries did he bend over and exhale.
“Hoo…! Huff…!”
How long had it been since he had run at full speed without considering his stamina distribution?
His lungs protested furiously.
“Oh, brother! Drink some water!”
Clara filled her cup with water and brought it to Rohan.
Rohan gulped down the cold water, thanking her.
Zion stood still, observing the two of them.
Then he immediately approached Clara and bowed his head.
“I’m sorry for not trusting you from the beginning. I think I overreacted.”
“No! I think it was inevitable because the situation was so tangled…”
“I should have called Rohan in the first place.”
“…That, that’s true?”
When blood rushes to your head, even simple things don’t come to mind.
The tension must have played a big part in solidifying his thoughts.
“I’m sorry for pressuring you to subdue you recklessly. I have no excuse.”
“N-no, it’s really okay…”
Thus, two girls with different styles but both lacking social skills.
While Sion kept apologizing and Clara kept stepping back saying it was okay.
Rohan caught his breath and straightened his back.
“Phew… I can breathe a little now.”
At the same time, the two girls’ gazes were fixed on Rohan.
Sion showed a look of curiosity as if she had been waiting.
“Rohan. Why didn’t you hear such important information?”
Judging by her gaze, she must be talking about Clara.
There’s nothing to be guilty about. Rohan has something to say about this too.
“I was going to tell you during the call yesterday. But the call suddenly got cut off.”
“Ah.”
Sion was also puzzled because the call had ended without hearing something important.
She really didn’t know it would be such important information.
“I was anxious and waiting too. But since the call didn’t come back, I had told Clara…”
But this is how things turned out.
Sion accepted the situation without any rebuttal.
“I’m sorry. I acted hastily and caused a problem.”
“I’m the one who’s sorry. I should have told you sooner… If you two have made up, don’t apologize to me.”
Rohan liked the way Sion didn’t hesitate to apologize.
Despite having pride and dignity in his lineage, he knew that proper acknowledgment and reflection on right and wrong did not diminish it.
Rohan approached Clara, who was fidgeting nervously with her mouth shut beside him.
He asked, looking into her eyes.
“Are you okay? Neither of you are hurt, right?”
“Yes…”
“For now, that’s the case.”
That was enough for Rohan.
Even if it had been during class, he would have somehow run out upon seeing the message. He felt it was a stroke of luck that this happened during lunch break.
“Have you both had lunch? Aren’t you hungry?”
“…”
A silent affirmation.
Rohan looked back and forth between the two and lifted the corners of his mouth.
“Then let’s eat together. I haven’t eaten yet either.”
Saying he would just wash his face because of the sweat, Rohan headed to the bathroom.
Thus, Clara and Sion were left alone once more.
Sion glanced at Clara and asked calmly.
“Were you Rohan’s lover? I’m sorry if I interrupted your time together.”
“What…?”
Clara’s eyes widened.
Sion drew a faint smile for the first time at that sight.
“I asked because you seem to have a special relationship, not just siblings. Am I wrong?”
“N-no… we’re not lovers…”
Sion looked surprised.
Clara, feeling pleased with his reaction, swayed her twin-tails and revised her evaluation of the elf before her.
‘He might be… a good person…!’
