I Became the Wrong Race

chapter 60

60 – Mines and Vampires (1)

The blue light cleared and we opened our eyes in an unfamiliar place.

It was a change that occurred in a split second, but it was certain. We were standing on an equally abandoned scaffolding in an old, abandoned warehouse.

A completely different environment from the nest we were in just moments ago. The fact that it was abandoned was the same, but the stark difference gave us that perception.

That we actually teleported and have now arrived in a place we have no idea about.

So, as soon as we came to our senses, we looked around and reached for our weapons.

There was no need for conversation. Even though Lorian has some weaknesses, he is stronger than me in battle, and Isla is an experienced hunter.

If you’re worried, it’s me, but I’m immune to most injuries unless I get hit on the head. Rather, it would be more effective to pretend to be dead after being attacked and then make a surprise attack.

So, instead of pulling out the knife, I clenched my fists and looked around.

What was visible was furniture, tools, and miscellaneous junk that seemed to have been abandoned for a long time.

“There is nothing.”

Isla speaks first. She was looking around.

“There are signs of popularity from the outside, but there is no feeling of siege.”

Two people looking at me behind them. I left the father behind to protect the nest, so it’s all the power.

So now it’s my turn.

I closed my eyes for a moment and listened.

I hear footsteps. There are many and diverse.

You can also guess the distance. It’s not very far, but it’s not that close, and the direction is close to passing in front of us.

It’s not an illusion. They don’t care about us. I opened my eyes and nodded to the two.

The two who caught my gaze put their weapons away and we walked out of the warehouse.

Anyway, if I wanted to clearly understand the situation, I had to go outside.

That’s how we faced the city.

“… Underground?”

It was just as Isla said. The place we arrived at could be said to be an underground city.

But it was not a simple underground city. A scenery I had never seen before in a game unfolded before my eyes.

It could be said to be the ceiling of an underground city. At the top, there were countless luminous objects hanging to serve as lighting.

I don’t know exactly what it was, but it was a glowing sphere, and with vines intertwined with it, it looked close to something natural.

People below were busy moving around, and the light emitted by the luminous body was close to scarlet, so there was a familiar atmosphere.

Should I say it’s a color like the streets of Korea at night?

What is different is the people who make up the streets and the style of the buildings.

Most of the buildings were made of stone, rarely made of wood, and even those were very medieval, unlike modern ones.

What’s a little different is that it has an angular shape that you would see in a desert or other places.

What about people? Most of them only seemed to be wealthy people.

He was dressed in something like silk clothes, and his face was oily, probably because he had good complexion and was eating well.

Most of them didn’t even look at us. This means that people with armed force are common or there is a background in which people are not afraid of them.

I even bumped shoulders with someone while I was looking at him for a while, but he wasn’t scared even though I was wearing heavy armor and just walked by, clicking his tongue and frowning.

A sight that cannot be seen in an ordinary city. Although I was embarrassed, I looked back at the other two.

Isla and Lorian. Neither of them felt like they knew this city well.

“How… “Would you like to walk around a bit?”

“Did you say it was a blue mineral?”

Lorian receives the words. I nodded.

“If it were minerals, it would be in the mine… “I never thought a city would be created.”

The scaffolding we used for teleportation was not removable. It was close to being attached to the floor of a warehouse.

I don’t know how it got there, but at least it wasn’t moved far from where the blue mineral comes from.

We thought blue minerals would come out around here.

The problem is that a city was built here. If there was a city, the mine was most likely to be private land owned by the city.

No matter how you negotiate or sneak in and dig.

Either way, you have to find it first.

“It will look suspicious if you just stand there. Let’s move.”

As Isla said, there were probably some things that looked suspicious, so we walked around the city slowly.

The city seemed to be affluent.

The attitude of the people passing by on the road was diverse. There were people walking in the northern part of the Old Continent, wearing tribal confederation-style clothing, while merchants were seen walking in desert-style clothing in the far south.

Although it is an underground city, it is quite accessible. The number of people was large, and the city was vibrant.

That’s probably why we don’t look suspicious either. It was a good thing. It wasn’t until I reached what appeared to be a market that I started asking about the mine.

“It’s a mine. They say there is a mine here, but they are using it as a prison because nothing comes out of it.”

“Thank you.”

The words of a middle-aged man who opened a stall and sold grilled fruits.

I expressed my gratitude while holding two grilled fruit skewers in my hands.

“But when you ask about the mine… “Did you also come here after hearing the rumors?”

“Rumors?”

Did they think I was being ignorant? The merchant smiled cheerfully.

“Everyone knows, so you don’t have to pretend not to know. It’s not that valuable information… “You guys also came looking for treasure, right?”

Looking at you, you seem like an adventurer. I could feel my heart fluttering as he said those words.

Am I a good adventurer too? I was satisfied, but I said it while trying not to show it.

“That could be possible.”

“There are more than one adventurer like that, so don’t think about lying. It doesn’t seem like you were born and raised here, but you came for adventure and glory that you couldn’t find in the Old Continent, right?”

I inferred many things from what he said.

First of all, fortunately, this is a new continent.

And it is true that there are no adventurers who come to the New World because there is no or not enough adventure in the Old World.

From what I heard from Melody, it seemed like they were blocking passage from the Empire to the New World, but I was surprised.

“In that sense, if I could give you some advice, don’t get too worked up.”

What the merchant says is to hand one skewer to Isla and eat the other one by lifting the helmet. I blinked.

“What do you mean?”

“There are many people like you, but did you see even one person on the way?”

Well, I hardly saw any adventurers on the way.

I thought I couldn’t see it because I was working hard on the investigation… That wasn’t it.

“You probably didn’t see it. Everything happens for a reason, so take care of yourself. Move while being cautious.”

Those were kind words. Too kind words to say to an unfamiliar adventurer you are meeting for the first time.

For a moment, I thought that this merchant might also be from one of the three clans, but that was an exaggerated thought. There are no such signs.

I finished the grilled fruit, thinking it was just pity that there were so many people going that way.

“Thanks for the information. Be careful. The price is…”

“I only accept five imperial coins.”

“It’s expensive.”

“Hmm, if you think of it as the price of information, it will feel cheap.”

That’s right. While thinking, I handed over the fairy tale I received from Isla and walked away.

“Do you think it’s enough?”

Isla asks when it is judged that the distance has grown sufficiently.

[Play time: 9,310 hours]

About an hour passed after we entered the market. The information gathered while traveling from merchant to merchant had a fairly plausible outline.

First, a rumor spread that there was treasure in the mines in this area.

The truth is unknown, but many adventurers came to look for it and it disappeared.

This is an underground city located in the New World. The exact location is unknown, but it is located in a location where merchants can come and go.

Mines are not used.

It was known that it was not exactly used. I don’t know what it’s like in reality.

And the location of the mine is not far from city hall or a guard post, as it is used as a prison. We walked through the market holding the information we had gathered.

This was enough. The rest can be explored on your own.

All that’s left is to head to the mine to find Lorian, who left her side for a while to dig up other information.

We wandered around looking for Lorian, and before long we ran into him in front of a blatantly suspicious stall.

She was already holding a beautiful object.

At first glance, it wasn’t a very good quality item. These are scrap items that probably wouldn’t even show up in the status window with a description or name even if I got them in my hands.

However, Lorian held it in his arms with love as if it were some kind of secret weapon.

“Now, this is a great item too! A famous sword that is said to have been forged by a transcendent person himself! A weapon said to have been used by a legendary contractor! The name is Pure―”

“Lorian.”

The merchant who was in the middle of introducing it freezes in shock. In his hand he was a very plain long sword.

From what I can tell, it is the Longsword of the Transcendent. Even the name seemed weak.

I sneered at first glance and nodded to Lorian.

“Let’s go. “I have collected enough.”

“Oh, just wait a moment. This merchant gave me the longsword of the transcendent at the right time… !”

“That’s fake.”

There is nothing to verify. I could tell without even holding it in my hand. At my snort, the merchant seemed to realize that I was a formidable opponent, and he became urgent.

“It’s unfair! Haven’t you seen for yourself just how great these things are? If you pay the price now, it will all become yours!”

The merchant seemed to have thought that Lorian would pay directly, but fortunately that did not happen.

Lorian looked at me for a moment with the look of a child begging me to buy her a toy, but I simply ignored her gaze at her.

She looked at her items with disapproving eyes for a moment and then slowly put them back on the vendor’s stand.

It was a good thing I didn’t give you money. If they had given it to me, I would have already bought it. Although she was full of regrets, she followed my wishes as ‘her father’s candidate.’

“Sorry. Come to think of it, this one weapon might be enough… “Because I don’t have any money.”

“That… !”

The merchant stretched out his hand with an expression on which the sky had fallen, but we walked away from him without hesitation.

“How did you get caught up in such a scam?”

“Fraud? No way. Right before my eyes, a merchant with no sword skills showed me cutting steel…”

Is she the type of person who is overconfident in what she sees? Lorian said that it would definitely have been helpful, or that all of those items seemed useful.

Even to me, who is not very discerning, they were all fake.

It was closer to a magic tool.

If you look at that and see that he believes it straight away, I would say he is an honest knight, both in good and bad ways.

No, are you here now? We walked for a while thinking.

We were slowly getting closer to the inside of the cave. If there were a mine, this would be the location.

It was a time when I was wondering which guard station it was.

“Is that you?”

Suddenly someone spoke.

“Yes, these bastards. “Two women and one man.”

When I turned my head, I saw a group of people. Those who only look like gangsters in their appearance or behavior holding weapons.

They were carrying weapons on their shoulders and were with the merchant who had tried to scam Lorian earlier.

“Good. Go.”

“Yes, of course.”

The merchant bows his head and walks away. Lorian watched the merchant leave with a devastated expression.

Didn’t I know he was going to snitch? The honest female knight gave up her momentary bewildered expression and sighed.

“So, where are you from? “What kind of bastards are they to make such a fuss?”

“It’s my mistake, so I’ll deal with it.”

“Don’t kill me.”

“Do not worry. In the first place, I had no intention of killing him because he was weak.”

The gangster’s threats stop, and the guys stiffen at Lorian’s words, which sound like an insult.

Faces twist, swear words are heard, and they close the distance with empty threats.

It was a reasonable decision.

Lorian was a fragile young lady, if only her outward appearance showed her. Although one of his arms felt somewhat mechanical, he had the appearance of a beautiful girl.

There is a mixture of profanity and foul language, and you can even hear words full of desire about what to do next.

Isla and I didn’t come forward. There was no need for that.

Clap, crack, crack!

Lorian swung the decapitating sword as it was in its sheath

The hem of his dress fluttered, he swung his legs, pushed and kicked him, and aimed his slender fists precisely at his chin and temples.

“Surround us! Attack all at once!”

Typical words in a typical attack. Every weapon she swings around her bounces or misses without touching her.

“Ugh, my body… !”

Rather, every time her fist her her touches, her body’s freedom is taken away through blood flow manipulation, a type of blood magic.

Naturally, the legs become twisted or interfere with an ally’s attack.

As the number of people who became entangled increased, they began to notice something strange.

After receiving two blows from Lorian’s decapitating sword and being kicked twice, Tteokdae retreated and looked frightened.

“Red eyes, pale skin, blood magic… !”

Words that cannot be ignored. When Lorian, I, and Isla all looked at him, he was shocked and stiffened.

“It’s a vampire again! Run away!”

“Again?”

I asked, but no answer came.

Instead, the gangsters run away. Those who remain conscious take the unconscious person and run away.

The goal is survival, not loyalty. I knew that right away. I shouted without hesitation.

“Catch that!”

The screams of the gangsters rang out during the chase that came out of nowhere.
