Chapter 38: Dante and Pikachu’s Progress!
Walking out of the guild after choosing a task, Dante and Pikachu were still talking about what Chatot said earlier.
"I still can't believe someone would steal the Time Gear. It doesn't do them any good and just hurts everybody!"
"Who knows? Maybe they have some other uses that we're not aware of."
"Gasp do you think so? From the stories I've heard, the Time Gear is related to some ancient and powerful Pokemon. Maybe they're trying to summon that Pokemon by using the Time Gear, OOH, and then its rival from the past…"
Dante ignored the rest of Pikachu's rambles. Clearly, having watched too many movies made his imagination become a bit too colorful.
'So, Grovyle has already started his actions. It's only a matter of time before the guild Expedition begins. At that time, we'll have to face our first 'Legendary' boss battle.'
Thinking of this matter made Dante both excited and apprehensive.
On their way to Treasure Town, Dante checked Spinda's Cafe and found that it was still closed. This had him a bit concerned.
'Their digging has already stopped, why haven't they still opened? At this rate, we'll fill up our storage with Gummies again before they start operating.'
Dante tried to put his worry aside and entered Treasure Town with Pikachu. There, they habitually went to check Kecleon's store. Seeing a Focus Blast for sale made Dante a little amused.
While performing tasks in the past week, the both of them have also received two other move discs in addition to Focus Blast, which are Fire Blast and Brine.
Fire Blast is a Fire type Special Attack move with a base power of 110. The other, Brine, is a Water type Special attack move with a base power of 65 dealing double the damage if the target has less than 50% HP.
Pikachu and Dante can't hope to learn these two moves so they just stored the move discs in Kangaskhan's storage for their future partners to learn.
In addition, they also tried exploring a new dungeon so that the range of tasks they can take will increase. The result of their endeavor was gaining new knowledge regarding a different type of dungeon.
The dungeon they tried to explore was called Tiny Woods. It was a forest type Mystery Dungeon ranked C according to the task evaluation, which was the same as Mt. Bristle.
However, Dante and Pikachu found that the Pokemon inside were much easier than Mt. Bristle. Tiny Woods, as its name suggests, is small and only has five floors which is in contrast to Mt. Bristle that has 10.
There were also less variety of Pokemon present, with Dante and Pikachu having only met a Pidgey, Exegcute, Sunkern, and Wurmple. Their stats are also only in the mid to late 20s. However, the reason why the dungeon was rated so high wasn't because of the Pokemon inside. Instead, it was due to the many traps present inside.
Traps are something that can be found in most dungeons. After being stepped on, they can cause a variety of effects, ranging from lowering a specific stat, inducing a status effect, and even causing teamwide damage.
Even during their exploration in Mt. Bristle, they will occasionally step on some traps.
In Tiny Woods, however, the situation was different. Every floor, the two of them would see at least dozens of traps. Therefore, during the exploration, the both of them had to carefully watch every one of their steps which slowed down their journey.
Their two weeks of constant effort have resulted in them having the following strength:

Their levels increased by 10 compared to two weeks ago, and each of their stats increased by at least 15. Not to mention, this was still when the both of them didn't eat any of the single Gummi that they've found.
After eating all the Gummies in their storage, all their stats should at least reach 50, possibly even the 60!
The two of them have also learned some new moves. For Dante, Brutal Swing is just another attack that he can add to his repertoire. However, Scary Face and Burning Jealousy are different. Through these two moves, Dante got into his first contact with the use of emotional energy.
Scary Face is a Normal-type status move that can harshly lower the target Pokemon's Speed. Burning Jealousy is a Fire type special attack move with a base power of 70 and has a large area of attack. Pokemon with their stats boosted that are hit by this move will be burned.
As seen from the name of the two moves, emotional energy is utilized in order to achieve their corresponding effects. Emotional energy is something that can be confidently stated to clearly exist. However, even after much research, most scientists are not able to collect any samples of it.
The most prominent example of moves that use emotional energy are Return and Frustration. The power of Return is completely dependent on how deep the Pokemon's affection towards something is when they use the move. Frustration, on the other hand, depends on how much they hate something.
At first, emotional energy was classified as just another more obscure form of energy. However, when the mechanics behind Mega Evolution was discovered, the whole world went crazy about it.
Mega Evolution was thought to be achievable only with the use of Key Stones and Mega Stones. However, when a well-known scientist published a paper saying that something similar can be achieved through a deep bond between the Trainer and their Pokemon, Trainers around the world became obsessed with trying to achieve it.
It came to the point where Trainers began to develop dissatisfaction with their Pokemon because of being unable to achieve it. In the end, the Pokemon Alliance ultimately made an official statement stating that Mega Evolution can only be achieved with the use of Key Stones and Mega Stones, and no evidence has currently been presented to suggest otherwise.
Because of that, the well-known scientist was criticized and he disappeared from the eyes of the world.
However, Dante knew better. There was an example from the official Pokemon show where something similar to evolution happened with Greninja through his deep bond with Ash.
But the deep bond between Trainer and Pokemon should only be one of the prerequisites. In addition, Ash and Greninja are also both known to possess the ability to control Aura, with Greninja being one of the rarest of its kind to possess the Battle Bond Ability.
Although Dante doesn't know whether he will be able to control Aura in the future, learning to control emotional energy now won't hurt him in the long run.
And who knows? Maybe when he is finally able to control energy during his human form, he will be able to use emotional energy to boost his Pokemon's powers during Trainer battles.
The timing was also just right for him to practice something new.
As Dante felt from the beginning, after he became more and more proficient with manipulating the Ghost and Normal type energy within his body, he was finally able to let the both of them coexist at the same time!
Because of this, he is now able to use Normal type moves while at the same time still being unaffected by Normal type moves. However, he still needs to use his Ghost form if he wants to float from the ground or pass through the thick walls of the dungeon.
Meanwhile, Pikachu's new moves have also improved his comprehensive strength.
Double Team is a Normal type move which allows him to leave a series of afterimage, thereby increasing his ability to dodge attacks. Slam is also a Normal type physical attack move with a base power of 80. It adds to Pikachu's currently almost non-existent physical moves.
Draining Kiss is a Fairy type special attack move which has a base power of 50. It uses Fairy type energy to project a large image of the lips, stealing the energy and dealing damage to the affected Pokemon, and then restoring Pikachu's HP by 75% of the damage caused.
When Pikachu learned this move for the first time, he was very averse to using it. However, after Dante's 'psychological counseling', he reluctantly used it whenever he was damaged.
The two of them finished the task from Beach Cave, habitually deposited the Gummies they collected to Kangaskhan's storage, and then returned to the guild to claim the reward from the task.
Chatot was mingling with the Exploration Teams on the second floor. Seeing Dante and Pikachu coming back to submit the task, his eyes turned sharp and he scanned the two of them.
'Hmm…I didn't expect their strength to grow so fast. Our guild is lucky to recruit two new apprentices with such immense potential! Perhaps, it's time for the two of them to start their first step into becoming a truly strong Exploration Team…'
