Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Quota for the Visit
Morning arrived, and Feng Qi and Mo Fei headed straight to the school cafeteria.
Feng Qi's appetite that morning was astonishing—he ate three times his usual amount, leaving Mo Fei staring in shock, calling him the reincarnation of a gluttonous beast.
When they arrived at the classroom, nearly half the students were already there, revising for the upcoming exams. Feng Qi and Mo Fei returned to their seats and joined in the preparation.
At 8 a.m., Old Wang, Wang Jinsheng, hurried into the classroom. Standing behind the podium, he smiled at the students before speaking.
"I have an important announcement. Before the graduation exams, a select group of outstanding students from our school will be given the opportunity to visit and study at a higher cultivation academy. Our class has one such student."
As soon as Wang Jinsheng finished speaking, all eyes in the classroom turned to Feng Qi.
"What if it's not me?" Feng Qi replied with an awkward smile.
The entire class collectively raised their middle fingers at him.
"Stop pretending, you poser!"
"Get real. If it's not you, I'll wash my hair while standing upside down. Being excessively modest is just showing off."
"Quiet!" Wang Jinsheng commanded, raising a hand to calm the class. He pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket, smoothed it out on the podium, and read aloud:
"Our classmate Feng Qi has been granted the privilege to visit and study at the Star City Academy!"
The announcement was met with silence. No applause, no cheers—just a room full of students who found this result unsurprising.
Taking the letter from Wang Jinsheng with a calm expression, Feng Qi managed to incite another round of jeering.
He wasn't the least bit surprised by this outcome. After all, his consistent first-place ranking in the class over the years had made him the obvious choice. Still, he felt a twinge of regret. He had hoped to visit the Galaxy Academy instead.
It wasn't that Star City Academy was inferior. In certain fields, such as battle techniques and martial arts, it even outshone Galaxy Academy. However, Feng Qi's interest lay in cultivation research, an area where Galaxy Academy excelled, making it his preferred choice.
"Feng Qi, go pack your bags and head to the school gate. The rest of you, continue your revision," Wang Jinsheng instructed, crumpling the paper back into his pocket before leaving the classroom.
"Tsk tsk, Star City Academy is a great place. I heard the senior sisters there are stunning. You're in for a treat! Just remember to use protection. Don't come back with a baby," Mo Fei teased with a grin.
Feng Qi rolled his eyes. "I'm only going for two weeks. Any kid that shows up won't be mine."
"Hahaha, fair point!"
"Get lost."
Feng Qi left the classroom and returned to the dormitory. After packing his essentials, he wheeled his suitcase toward the school gate.
By the time he arrived, over a dozen buses were already parked there. Each bus had a sign on the windshield indicating the destination academy.
Among the teachers waiting nearby was Wang Jinsheng, who smiled as Feng Qi approached.
"That blue bus over there is headed to Star City Academy," Wang Jinsheng said. "When you get there, make the most of it. Learn everything you can. It'll be good for your future."
"Old Wang, be honest—did you rig the selection process? Was this your doing?"
Feng Qi knew that Wang Jinsheng was a graduate of Star City Academy, which made him suspicious.
"I don't have that kind of power. The selection was random," Wang Jinsheng replied, rolling his eyes. "Besides, Star City Academy is one of the top 100 academies. Do you feel wronged?"
"No, I was just curious."
While they waited, the other students selected for the visit began to arrive. Once everyone was assembled, the school principal stepped forward to deliver a speech.
The principal's remarks were the usual clichés: urging the students to study hard, behave themselves, and avoid causing trouble during the visit. Feng Qi, however, tuned him out entirely.
After nearly half an hour of talking, the principal finally put down the microphone and walked away.
Wang Jinsheng turned to Feng Qi and said, "Get on the bus. And don't embarrass me out there."
Feng Qi nodded, stowed his suitcase in the bus's luggage compartment, and chose an empty seat. To his surprise, no other students boarded the bus bound for Star City Academy. Even after waiting for a while, no one joined him.
About ten minutes later, the driver started the engine, and the bus pulled out of the school gate.
The passing scenery outside the window was a mix of familiarity and strangeness for Feng Qi, who hadn't left the school grounds in quite some time.
The driver was a burly man with a greasy demeanor. He gripped the steering wheel with one hand as the bus sped down the road, overtaking cars left and right. Occasionally, he rolled down the window to hurl curses at other drivers, generously extending his insults to their ancestors. It was like watching a live-action version of Fast & Furious.
Feng Qi stared in stunned silence, quietly thinking that driving a school bus seemed beneath this man. With a temperament like that, he should be piloting tanks or fighter jets.
Fortunately, Star City Academy wasn't far. After less than two hours of reckless driving, the bus arrived at its destination.
