I Hijacked the Timeline (IHT)

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Physical Changes

"The graduation exams are right around the corner, and you're still managing to fall asleep? At this stage of your life, you're falling asleep? Where's your ambition?!"

Staring at Feng Qi, Wang Jinsheng wore an expression of profound disappointment, as if he were heartbroken over someone failing to live up to their potential.

Feng Qi was his most promising student, someone in whom he had placed high hopes for the future. Yet now, to see him sleeping in class—it was almost too much for him to bear.

After a round of scolding, Wang Jinsheng opened his textbook with a stern expression and asked,

"I'm asking you—what year did the world transformation begin?"

Facing Old Wang's angry glare, Feng Qi's mind raced. Thankfully, this was an area he had studied thoroughly. He wasn't about to embarrass himself in front of the entire class.

After a brief pause to organize his thoughts, the answer surfaced in his mind:

"The world transformation began 500 years ago, specifically on May 31, 1523. On that day, domain fields appeared all over the world, and mythical creatures from legend descended within those fields. Humanity faced an unprecedented challenge..."

The "World Transformation Day" was a common question for graduating students, and one that everyone was expected to answer correctly.

This day marked the turning point that reshaped human civilization.

According to historical records, on that fateful day, domain fields of varying sizes appeared across the globe. The smallest domains covered areas as small as ten square meters, while the largest ones engulfed entire cities.

Within these domains, powerful and terrifying creatures emerged. Those unfortunate enough to be caught within a domain's boundaries were plunged into a living nightmare.

For example, 300 years ago, a modern city located 500 miles east of Star City—where Feng Qi currently lived—was suddenly swallowed by a domain field. Most of the city's inhabitants were devoured by the creatures that descended within the field, leaving only a few survivors who managed to escape.

In response to the sudden crisis of domain invasions, governments around the world took drastic measures. Nuclear weapons were deployed to obliterate the domains and everything within them.

However, reality proved harsh. Nuclear strikes had almost no effect on the domains. They neither weakened nor eradicated them.

With no other options, humanity had to temporarily abandon the areas covered by these fields.

Fortunately, the bloodthirsty creatures within the domains seemed restricted by some unknown force, rarely venturing beyond the boundaries of their domains. This allowed humanity to survive without facing immediate extinction.

But everyone knew that the current peace was temporary.

The domains scattered across the world were slowly expanding, and one day, they would likely consume the entire planet.

To combat the domain invasion, nations began sharing intelligence and studying the creatures hunted with modern technology. Scientists sought to uncover their weaknesses and find a way to secure humanity's future.

Through relentless research, scholars discovered that a mysterious substance, which had appeared alongside the domains, now floated in the air. This substance was incredibly difficult to capture but seemed to be closely tied to the strength of the creatures within the domains.

It was hypothesized that if humans could incorporate this substance into their own bodies, they might be able to attain power similar to that of the domain creatures.

Experiments proved that the mysterious substance could indeed enhance human capabilities.

This discovery marked a significant breakthrough. Since technology couldn't defeat the domain creatures, humanity decided to fight fire with fire.

The substance was named "spiritual energy" by the research team that first identified it.

Over the next several centuries, countless scholars dedicated their lives to studying spiritual energy. They developed various cultivation techniques that allowed humans to absorb and harness it.

Thus began the era of human evolution.

Cultivation academies were established one after another, and humanity's focus shifted from economic development in peaceful times to the era of universal martial training.

Through cultivation techniques, more and more powerful individuals capable of combating domain creatures began to emerge worldwide.

To this day, humanity had managed to dismantle and eradicate several smaller domains from within, though the fight against domain creatures had also cost the lives of countless pioneers.

Feng Qi was a graduating high school senior, about to enter one of these cultivation academies.

In just a few days, he would face his graduation exams. If his results were excellent, he would have the chance to enter a prestigious cultivation academy.

Graduates of these academies could join research institutes dedicated to studying cultivation techniques, or form and join combat teams that ventured into domain fields to fight for humanity's survival.

After listening to Feng Qi's detailed explanation, Wang Jinsheng's expression finally softened.

"Now, explain what happened just now."

"Uh... maybe I've been too exhausted from all the studying lately," Feng Qi said, furrowing his brows and rubbing his temples. "I've been feeling this strange kind of fatigue, and I think I just blacked out for a moment. That's why I didn't hear you calling me."

Wang Jinsheng stared at Feng Qi suspiciously for a few seconds before finally relenting. Turning his attention to Mo Fei, who sat beside Feng Qi, he instructed,

"Mo Fei, take Feng Qi to the medical office. The exams are just around the corner—you can't afford any health issues now!"

Mo Fei nodded obediently, eager to comply.

As they left the classroom, Mo Fei turned to Feng Qi with a curious look and asked,

"Hey, crazy guy, what's going on today? I tried waking you up so hard, but you wouldn't budge. Is something actually wrong with you?"

"I'm not sure," Feng Qi replied with a sigh. "Maybe the stress has been getting to me. Let's just go to the medical office and get it checked out."

A moment later, Feng Qi and Mo Fei arrived at the school medical office.

The medical office was simply furnished. Three hospital beds were neatly arranged along the right side of the room, while the left side was lined with shelves stocked full of various medical supplies. In the middle was a small partitioned area, which appeared unoccupied.

Just then, the door swung open again.

A graceful figure stepped inside. Standing about 1.72 meters tall, she had a slender frame and strikingly delicate features.

Draped in a loose white coat, she approached Feng Qi with a clouded expression. Without saying a word, she suddenly turned and delivered a solid punch to Mo Fei's stomach. Mo Fei doubled over in pain, his face turning ashen.

"I told you not to come to the medical office for no reason! How many times is this now?"

"My buddy's sick this time! It's serious!" Despite being punched, Mo Fei gritted his teeth and forced a smile. But his smile was so forced it looked worse than crying.

Watching the scene unfold, Feng Qi couldn't help but let his imagination run wild, instantly conjuring a melodramatic story of an unrequited love, where Mo Fei was the pitiful admirer who endured abuse in pursuit of his unattainable goddess.

Otherwise, why wouldn't he fight back?

Sure, she's attractive, but if it were me, I'd grab her by the hair and land a knee strike, follow it with an over-the-shoulder throw, pick her up again, make her stand straight, then spin around and deliver a roundhouse kick to knock her down. And if she still had the nerve to resist, I'd finish with a sliding tackle for a critical hit.

After hearing Mo Fei's explanation, the woman turned her gaze to Feng Qi. Her expression softened as she said,

"Hello, I'm Chen Youzi, the new school doctor. What seems to be the problem?"

Feng Qi hesitated for a moment before replying awkwardly,

"I just had a really vivid nightmare. It felt like I was actually there, and I could even smell things in the dream. Does that mean something's wrong with my mind?"

Chen Youzi didn't seem particularly surprised by his explanation.

After all, with exams coming up, it was normal for students to show signs of stress—both physical and mental.

She'd seen worse, like students stripping naked and running across the sports field to vent their emotions before final exams. Compared to that, nightmares were a minor issue.

"Alright, lie down on the bed. I'll perform a full-body check-up."

Hearing this, Feng Qi nodded and lay down on one of the hospital beds. Meanwhile, Chen Youzi stepped into the partitioned area, activating the main control console.

As the system whirred to life, a metallic sphere above the bed slowly opened. Inside, lights interwove, illuminating a variety of medical instruments neatly arranged for comprehensive diagnostics.

Under Chen Youzi's control, the machines began operating. A metallic arm extended downward, initiating a series of scans.

The examination included an electrocardiogram, blood pressure readings, blood analysis, resting heart rate, pulmonary function tests, and more. When the process was complete, a printed report slid out from the control console.

Chen Youzi retrieved the report and reviewed Feng Qi's health data.

After a moment, she turned to Feng Qi, who was lying there with a worried expression, and said,

"Your physical condition is excellent. There's nothing wrong with you. It's probably just stress from studying. Make sure to get enough rest while you prepare for your exams, and you'll be fine."

As she spoke, Chen Youzi handed the report to Feng Qi.

Letting out a long sigh of relief, Feng Qi reached for the report.

The nightmare had felt so real that he'd genuinely worried there might be something wrong with his mind—something like delusions or a mental disorder.

Glancing down at the report, he was just about to crumple it up and toss it into the nearby trash bin when his eyes caught the words "Bloodline Strength."

The recorded value stopped him in his tracks.

Bloodline Strength (Feng Qi): 21.13

"How is that possible?!" Feng Qi's face was filled with shock.

Just one day earlier, during a routine physical examination, his bloodline strength had been measured at 21.03.

In the time since, he hadn't consumed any of the expensive spiritual liquids or pills that could rapidly boost bloodline strength. There was no reason for his value to increase so significantly in such a short period.

But the report clearly indicated an inexplicable 0.1 increase.

To an outsider, 0.1 might seem like a minor change. However, for Feng Qi, increasing his bloodline strength by 0.1 normally required at least two weeks of rigorous training combined with meticulous nutritional intake.

This strange increase immediately made him think of the nightmare—more specifically, the moment when he killed the zombie and gained one point of bloodline evolution.

Could it really be related to that eerie dream?
