Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Prefix Title: Resilience
Back in the dormitory, Mo Fei was still studying.
On his computer screen, "The History of Modern Weapons Development" was playing, and his hand never stopped jotting down critical notes in his notebook.
After exchanging greetings with Mo Fei, Feng Qi washed up and lay down in bed, quickly drifting off into sleep.
When he opened his eyes again, the scene before him was all too familiar.
Turning his head, he saw a familiar Zombie creature struggling to rise from the ground, only to collapse into a split as usual.
Feng Qi didn't waste time. Picking up a nearby leg bone, he advanced before the Zombie could act and smashed it directly on the head.
A few heavy blows later, the Zombie fell motionless.
Without stopping, Feng Qi continued heading east, killing Zombie along the way.
He had come to terms with his new reality: if he couldn't grow stronger in the real world, he would prepare to grow stronger in the dream realm instead. After all, hunting monsters in the dream realm might even be a faster path to strength than traditional cultivation in reality.
As he moved forward, bone weapon in hand, Feng Qi unleashed his fury.
Any Zombie missing limbs or otherwise slow to move was mercilessly dispatched.
[You have killed an Zombie. You have gained 1 point of Blood Qi. Progress toward the milestone for upgrading the prefix title "Normal": 21%.]
[You have killed an Zombie. You have gained 1 point of Blood Qi. Progress toward the milestone for upgrading the prefix title "Normal": 24%.]
…
With each kill, pinkish muscle fibers began forming over the growing flesh on his body. In some areas, clear muscle lines were beginning to emerge.
"Hey, Narrator, does absorbing enough Blood Qi mean I'll eventually grow back my entire body in the dream realm?" Feng Qi asked, curious about the changes in his body.
[Or you might evolve into a grotesque muscle-bound freak. Don't think too much—just let it grow naturally.]
Feng Qi: …
While the idea of "becoming whole again" in the dream realm didn't bother him much, what he truly cared about was getting rid of the putrid stench emanating from his decaying body. Every time he entered the dream realm, he found himself disgusted by his own smell.
After killing another Zombie, Feng Qi discarded the cracked leg bone he had been using as a weapon. Picking up another bone from the ground, he tested its sturdiness before continuing on.
Looking ahead, he saw countless Zombie figures swaying in the open field. To him, they were nothing more than moving treasure chests of experience.
Just as Feng Qi prepared to head deeper into the field to continue his rampage, the ground beneath his feet trembled slightly.
Suddenly, a tentacle shot out of a pile of bones and coiled tightly around his waist. The bone pile in front of him erupted, revealing the creature hidden beneath—a massive worm-like being.
This scarlet worm bore an uncanny resemblance to the "Death Worm" of modern myth. Its plump body writhed as it revealed its grotesque maw, filled with rows of sharp, jagged teeth. The creature lunged at Feng Qi, attempting to bite him.
Having already experienced death multiple times, Feng Qi didn't panic. Gripping his bone weapon tightly, he smashed it down onto the worm's head, leaving a deep dent in its surface.
The worm recoiled in pain, and the tentacle wrapped around Feng Qi's waist constricted tighter, reducing his waistline by a noticeable inch.
Yet, since he couldn't feel pain, Feng Qi remained unfazed. He raised the bone weapon again and continued hammering the worm's head with relentless strikes.
Green fluid splattered everywhere as the worm quickly lost its ability to fight, collapsing into a lifeless heap on the ground.
But Feng Qi wasn't done. After breaking free of its hold, he continued pounding the worm's head until a wisp of blood-colored mist emerged and flowed into his body.
The sensation of absorbing the Blood Qi was euphoric, spreading a comforting warmth throughout his body, but the feeling only lasted for a few seconds before fading away.
Opening his status panel, Feng Qi saw new changes to his attributes:
[Resilient Normal Zombie: Feng Qi]
Strength Level: Unranked
Prefix Titles:
Normal (Neutral prefix with no added effects)
Resilience LV1 (+1% to muscle resilience)
Bloodline: Human (Basic)
Bloodline Evolution Points: 43/1000
Prefix Title Milestones:
Normal (Upgradeable): 33% progress toward second milestone
Resilience LV1 (Upgradeable): 2% progress
"Another prefix title? Where did that come from?"
Noticing the change, Feng Qi realized that killing monsters in the dream realm not only granted him Bloodline Evolution Points but also allowed him to acquire certain traits from the creatures he defeated. These traits became his prefix titles.
"Hey, Narrator, am I right? Can I gain abilities from different creatures and use them to upgrade my prefix titles?"
[Correct. Which means that in the future, your name might get absurdly long, something like: Swift·Poison-Resistant·Eagle-Eye·Quick·Hammer-Wielding·Sharp·Wise·Resilient·Very Strong Zombie: Feng Qi.]
Feng Qi: …
Though slightly ridiculous, the discovery of such a cheat-like ability put Feng Qi in high spirits. Gripping his bone weapon, he continued onward, ready to harvest more Zombie for power.
[You have killed an Zombie. You have gained 1 point of Blood Qi. Progress toward the milestone for upgrading the prefix title "Normal": 43%.]
[You have killed an Zombie. You have gained 1 point of Blood Qi. Progress toward the milestone for upgrading the prefix title "Normal": 58%.]
With his bone club in hand, Feng Qi continued his journey, smashing and striking every Zombie in his path.
On his way, he encountered several more worms. These creatures had soft, elastic skin that made piercing them with bone spikes utterly futile. He found that only blunt weapons like his bone club were effective against them.
Under his relentless attacks, these worms eventually fell, contributing to his Bloodline Evolution Points and advancing the progress of his prefix title milestone.
Winding through the barren landscape and circling around, Feng Qi eventually returned to the Shelter Stone Monument.
After some thought, he decided to head back inside for another exploration.
Biting his finger, he allowed his blood to drip into the monument's groove. Once again, the stone shifted aside, revealing the rust-covered metallic passageway beneath.
Walking down the long metallic hallway, Feng Qi entered the underground plaza and headed straight for the central database.
While it was true that he could no longer cultivate in the real world, the cultivation techniques stored within this database had already proven functional in reality.
This motivated him to learn a few more techniques and bring them back to the real world.
"First step of a genius: borrow ideas from the database," he quipped to himself.
Approaching the database console, he pressed the start button. The machine trembled as the long-dormant system flickered to life. Dust-covered screens lit up, revealing an array of menus.
Before diving into learning new techniques, Feng Qi decided to first check if his future evaluation had changed. He wanted to see if his actions in the real world had already begun to alter his supposed fate.
In the search bar, he entered his name and applied the appropriate filters. Soon, a detailed description of his future profile appeared:
