Chapter 53
“Freezing cold, devour my enemies.”
As Werner chanted the spell, the Black Round Table’s minions froze instantly. When Werner touched them, they turned into ice powder and scattered into the air. Werner had been laughing, but he was actually furious.
They had dared to kidnap Zig’s and Media’s daughter, ruined his long-awaited meeting with his brothers and sisters, and made Media cry. In Werner’s eyes, these were all heavy crimes, and his verdict was to execute everyone involved.
However, freezing to death instantly was still a relatively painless death compared to the other ways they could have died. They could have been sucked dry of nutrients by tree roots and died like mummies, impaled from the bottom up by iron spikes, electrocuted, or sliced into pieces by wind blades.
Werner grabbed the neck of one of the minions blocking his way and chanted a spell.
“Lightning Snake, crawl on the ground.”
The minion Werner was holding was electrocuted by high-voltage electricity and died screaming. The fact that his entire body was covered in black soot indicated that he had been electrocuted continuously until he died.
Then Werner grabbed the neck of another minion tied to a tree root.
“Hey, do you know?”
“Wh…what are you talking about…?”
At first, the minion had been loud and fearless, but now he looked pathetic and submissive, which made Werner chuckle.
“I don’t know much about family, but family is very precious. I also care deeply about my brothers and sisters.”
“Wh…what?”
“But you touched my family, Zig’s and Media’s family. Zig may not show it, but he’s probably suffering a lot, and Media cried.”
“If my brothers and sisters disappeared, I would feel my heart sink… You made Zig and Media feel that pain…”
“And you ruined the long-awaited meeting with my brothers and sisters. I had so much to boast about, but you ruined it all?”
Werner’s grip on the minion’s neck tightened.
“So you agree that I can kill you, right? If you have any objections, I’ll hear your appeal.”
It was absurd. He was squeezing the minion’s neck so hard that he couldn’t even speak, yet he was offering to hear any objections. It was cruel and malicious, but the minion, whose life was extremely precious, desperately tried to plead for his life with strange sounds.
“Cough…cough…cough…”
“I can’t hear you well. I’ll take that as your agreement.”
“Cough! Cough! Cough…”
“Speak clearly, or do you want me to electrocute you with lightning? Freeze you? Skewer you with a spike? Or suck out all your nutrients? Or… do all of them?”
The minion desperately protested, but Werner found his coughing sounds annoying, so he summoned a spike and skewered the minion’s tongue.
“Since you’re skewered like a kebab, I’d like to make you into one, but that’s not possible… So, I’ll let you die with a burst stomach.”
Werner wanted to burn him with fire, but since it was a cave, the fire might spread and endanger Iris. So, he had been sealing fire-based magic. He had also sealed area-of-effect magic, which was difficult to distinguish between friend and foe. However, even without those spells, the minions couldn’t defeat a grand wizard. For a grand wizard, it was just a little inconvenient to have area-of-effect spells sealed.
Werner put his finger into the minion’s mouth.
“Earth, spit out sand through my finger.”
Werner filled the minion’s mouth with a large amount of sand, and soon his lungs and internal organs were filled with sand. He died the most painfully out of all the minions who died that day. However, Werner thought that since he died with a burst stomach, he had fulfilled one of the minions’ wishes and died happily.
In front of his brothers and sisters, Werner put on the appearance of an innocent youngest, but his inherent cruelty was still there. The only person who knew this was Lorcha, Werner’s friend and only confidant.
Werner stepped on a pool of blood and sighed in frustration.
“Where the hell are you… this place is so damn complicated, it’s making me sick.”
The inside of the cave had an ant colony-like structure, which made it unexpectedly complex. When he chose one of the two paths, it later split into three, then four, and then five.
If it weren’t for Iris, Werner would have just flooded the place with water and drowned them all or set them on fire and made a proper barbecue. But since Iris was captured, he had too many restrictions. As a result, his robe and hair were covered in blood, and his body was starting to smell like the damp cave.
“Damn, I’ve checked most of the paths, but I still can’t find her. These bastards are really pissing me off.”
He had been muttering to himself, and now he drew an X on the blood-stained map on his robe. It was a sign that the path he had just checked was wrong.
He had been in the cave for two days already. He hadn’t slept for two nights, and he had been searching through this giant ant colony, so he was reaching his physical limit. In fact, he hadn’t slept for three days before entering the cave, so it had been about five days since he had rested. Even for a grand wizard, this was a physically exhausting period.
He could have brought his companions to help, but he didn’t want to explain how he knew about the symbol. His brothers and sisters thought he was just a simple orphan. He didn’t want to worry them, and he thought he could handle it on his own, but it wasn’t easy.
Werner caused a tree root to grow and sat on it. He needed to catch his breath for a moment.
“Sigh…”
Recently, Werner had been feeling a sense of futility. Camellia had gone to search for her missing father, and they could only communicate through letters. His other brothers and sisters were busy with their families or their main jobs. Grandpa was the one who spent the most time with him, but he often disappeared to train. On top of that, Zig and Media had become busy with Iris. It was natural for them to focus on their child, and Werner had been spending most of his time with his friend lately.
He had been feeling a sense of distance recently, but then Media told him that he would always be the youngest in the family. Werner realized that he had become a little awkward, but he also realized that they would always be family. His brothers and sisters all worried about him, even if they were rough in their words and actions. Grandpa was no exception.
After resting for about ten minutes, Werner started walking again. Not for his companions, who were like family, but for his family.
After walking for some time, Werner came across a door with a different design than the others. It had a skull-shaped decoration, as if it was openly advertising that something was inside.
“You’re really putting on a show, aren’t you? These bastards haven’t changed at all.”
Werner turned the doorknob and entered. In the center of the room, there was a cradle with Iris giggling and smiling. Werner finally felt relieved, but when he saw the men in robes with their faces covered by masks, his expression changed. It was clear that they had something sinister planned.
“Tree, prepare a feast for you, and don’t hesitate to absorb it.”
Tree roots grew from the floor and wrapped around the men, sucking out their nutrients. The men screamed, but the roots didn’t stop until they had turned into mummies and fell to the ground.
Werner approached the cradle in the center and checked Iris’s condition. Fortunately, she wasn’t cursed or affected by any strange magic, and her health was in good condition.
When he saw Iris smiling at him, Werner chuckled. He was a little self-conscious about his bloodstained appearance, but he didn’t have time to clean himself up, so he picked up Iris right away. He knew how to hold a baby, thanks to Media. Although he had been scared at first, he had learned how to do it properly.
“Let’s go home, Iris. Your brother and sister haven’t been able to eat properly because they’ve been waiting for you, right?”
Werner made a joke to Iris, who couldn’t understand his words. As he tried to leave with Iris, reality was as cruel as always.
A man blocked Werner’s way as he tried to leave with Iris.
Werner’s expression changed, and he asked in a voice filled with killing intent.
“Who are you?”
The man drew his red sword and answered.
“Nice to meet you. I am a humble man who holds the position of Gaheris in the Black Round Table.”
When Werner saw the man’s red sword, he instinctively felt danger.
He knew that it was dangerous.
