Chapter 24
Chapter 24 I stared at him with wide eyes, and he gestured for me to sit next to him. I hesitated and sat down next to Daniel. The soft sofa caved in and my shoulder slightly tilted towards Daniel. Daniel explained, holding out one of the teacups filled with tea to me. “I asked for a dress for you to wear when we go to the party. This person will make it for you.” “My dress?!” I was a little surprised. As far as I know, Roan stopped making ladies’ dresses after he set up his shop. I’d heard that he still loved making dresses, but for some artistic reason, he stopped taking orders and kept it as a hobby. But I can’t believe someone like that would make a dress for me. When I opened my mouth and looked at Roan, he covered his mouth and chuckles. “You’re definitely cute. It’s worth the trouble you’ve taken to find her.” “Don’t say unnecessary things in front her….” Daniel looked at Roan with a nervous glance. “You, in case you haven’t noticed, don’t pull any crap on her. She’s 17 years older than you. She’s my age.” Saying that makes me realize that Roan is older… I looked back and forth between Daniel and Roan with a puzzled look on my face. ‘No matter what, it is. Do you think Roan, who has been single all this time, will suddenly start coveting me?’ Apparently, the maids who had seen Roan a few times were firmly convinced that he was a workaholic who was unmarried and stoned on women… Just as I was about to snort and tell Daniel not to worry, Roan said with a grin. “Hmm, really? I also met a lady who was 20 years older than me, so why not?” Roan smiled brightly. It was a smile that looked so gentle and solemn that it would have made women on the street clutch their hearts if they had seen it, but Daniel looked at him like he was trash and hid me behind his back. “This crazy pervert…” It was too casual to be a conversation between a teacher and a student. When Daniel growled like a mother cat protecting the kittens, Roan smiled brightly and shrugged his shoulders. “Okay, whatever. Enough with the joke….” “Was it really a joke?” Daniel still looked at Roan with distrust. Roan took a sip of the tea we shared, Daniel notwithstanding. “I heard you’ve never been to a party before, so I guess this is your first time wearing a dress?” Roan asked, eyeing me intently. I stepped out from behind Daniel’s back and nodded. “Yes, this is my first time wearing a dress. And please call me Jensen.” “Yes, Miss Jensen.” Roan took out a sketchbook from the bag he brought. “I’ve already designed a few designs, but I think this one would suit Miss Jensen.” I received the sketchbook from Roan with my heart pounding. Normally, I would have refused an expensive item like a dress out of conscience, but this is a dress drawn by a designer who is considered one of the world’s greatest… It was natural to be curious. I looked at the sketchbook with Daniel. On the white paper was drawn a cherry blossom-colored dress with frills on the shoulders and a V-shaped chest. The lace, like a multitude of bright petals, stretched from the waist down. The triangular shape of the dress was particularly beautiful. “If it’s okay with Miss Jensen, I can make it right away. If you like it.” “I like it. It’s really pretty.” When I answered enthusiastically, Roan closed his eyes and smiled. But something was bothering me. “… But I’ve never seen such a bright color before. What if it doesn’t suit me after all the work you put into it?” I’ve never worn such a gorgeous pink color in my life. It was a grey or dark-blue, which you can’t see when they’re stained. What if I wear a flowery pink dress like this and it looks awkward, like I stole someone else’s clothes? I asked with a serious expression on my face, but Roan snorted as if he had heard something meaningless. “It doesn’t! Young kids like you just look good in whatever you wear. You should wear these colors when you’re young, can you wear them when you’re old? You should try on all these colors while you’re still younger. That kind of talk is deceiving to middle-aged people like me.” “Is that so?” “Yes.” Roan clicked his tongue, saying that young people like her were making him worry. “And Miss Jensen has fair skin, so don’t worry, it will suit you well. Daniel, would you like me to show you yours too?” “No, thanks.” Daniel spoke bluntly and took a sip of tea. He was so nonchalant about his outfit, like it was no one else’s business. After the merchant market boomed, he would wear formal attire day and night, even when he didn’t want to, so it was natural that he would have no interest in party attire. I asked on Daniel’s behalf. “So, will Roan be making Daniel’s clothes, too? Something to wear to the party?” “Yes. The two of you will appear as a couple at the party, so you can’t wear different clothes.” “Couple…” I blinked my eyes wide. A couple, which should just mean a pair, but somehow it sounded like… Daniel frowned, his face shaking. “Enough of this nonsense, we’re going to have to take measurements, right?” “That’s right. It’s Miss Jensen’s first time fitting a dress.” “Thank you, Roan.” When I smiled while holding the sketchbook, Roan rested his chin and looked at me with a smile. “Then come to my room later, and I’ll take your measurements, and you can return the sketchbook then.” Roan seemed to notice how much I liked the dress. I blushed a little and nodded. After Roan left the room, Daniel turned to me. More precisely, his eyes were on the sketchbook I held like a treasure. “You like it?” “Of course. It’s my first dress!” I nodded vigorously. I’ve been possessed the novel, but I thought my life would end without being able to wear a dress even once. Of course, this would be a dress that I would wear at least once, but the fact that a professional designer would make the dress was enough to make my heart flutter. When I answered excitedly, Daniel, who had been expressionless the whole time, looked at me and smiled. “I’m glad. It was worth it to call that crazy pervert.” “Did you call him out because of me?” “…….” Daniel kept his mouth shut, as if he had made mistake. “Wow, really?!” “Don’t make a fuss. I had to match my clothes anyway….” Daniel hastily made an excuse. But he couldn’t hide the redness of his ears through his jet-black hair. “Wow, it’s nice to have a rich friend.” “… Why are you talking about money now?” The space between Daniel’s eyebrows deepened. When I brought up the topic of money, Daniel looked at me with a sulky face. “I’ve been feeling it all along, not just now.” He gulped down his tea like someone who’d been offended by my answer. He seemed uncomfortable that I was talking about money when he’d been so attentive. ‘I meant it in a good way.’ I glanced at Daniel, who looked strangely offended, and cleared my throat. Then I reached out and put my hand on his shoulder. “Daniel.” “What?” “Thank you.” “…….” “I don’t mean that in an empty way. I would never have seen this outfit without you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have even seen clothes like this. Thanks to your concern, I think I can go out to the party with confidence, really.” “…….” “Can’t you feel my sincerity? Should I get up and dance?” When I got up from the sofa and tried to make a fuss, Daniel pulled me down with a straight face. Then he pressed his hand firmly over my face, stopping me. * * * It was a top secret that I would attend the party as Daniel’s partner. A secret known only to Daniel’s entourage, Roan, the two brothers who attend the party with him, and Deborah. So while I discussed the party with Daniel, I kept my mouth shut when I was around other users and focused on my duties as a maid. As far as discussions go, Daniel does most of the organizing, and I’m just a little familiar with the etiquette of the party. But there was one person who wasn’t happy about this party… “Why on earth is Rosie Daniel’s partner?” It was Lucas. Lucas was so full of energy that it felt like he was going to flip the table at any moment. Of course, in my eyes, he looked like a angry golden retriever. Lucas looked at me and Daniel with a very disappointed face. A weekend afternoon when the maids went to rest. The place was a secret garden filled with peach-colored gerberas. ‘Come to think of it, this is the first time the four of us have been together like this since I first came to the mansion.’ I drank lemon balm tea with a carefree face. Daniel also responded to Lucas with an annoyed expression. “Well, I didn’t have a partner to begin with. I just agreed with Saint Deborah and decided to switch partners.” “But it’s not fair.” “What is unfair?” “Daniel is escorting Rosie! It’s Rosie’s first party in her life! I wanted to be her first escort!” “Hah…” When Lucas was about to lie down on the grass and throw a tantrum to protest, Daniel sighed as if he was dumbfounded. Next to him, Colin stopped Lucas. “He didn’t do it out of selfish intention, but because of a promise he made to Saint Deborah. There’s nothing to be so angry about, Lucas.” “But…” “Our goal is to have fun with Rose at the party, right?” Colin said with a grin. “Yes, Lucas. You wanted to play outside with me for a long time, so I agreed. Why don’t you lighten up your expression?” “… shit.” “What? Did you swear? Are you that kind of kid? I’m so disappointed in you, Lucas!” When I made a fuss and openly teased Lucas, he blushed and got angry. “I said seed, a seed! I didn’t swear!” Haha, he’s a baby after all. I sat down next to him and patted him on the shoulder to calm him down. “By the way, Colin, Lucas. Do you really have no partner? I’m sure there are many ladies who want to go to the party with you.”
