CHAPTER : 68
Episode 68.
We finally arrived at the top of Elotta after a rather exciting date.
‘Wow. This is the top, the mansion.’
‘Somehow it seems much bigger and grander than the mansion we got.’
‘From what I can see, yes. The top of Elotta must be wealthy. They’re not the top four in the Western Continent for nothing.’
I wandered around like a country bumpkin, exclaiming my admiration, and then I went to see the chief.
I saw him in the distance giving instructions to someone else, so I approached him.
‘Do you have an appointment with the branch manager?’
‘No, I don’t have an appointment-’
‘Then go back. The branch manager is a man who even those who have an appointment have to wait a month to see him. Tsk. Anyway, dogs and cows come to see him.’
The employee who looked me up and down rudely, as if treating me like a pathetic and insignificant human being, clicked his tongue and turned away.
For the first time, I was excited to go on a date, and then I felt my heart crumble like a sandcastle.
Beside him, Iros drew his sword, his flowery face full of life.
‘Do you mind if I kill him, Saint?’
‘Hold on, you’re looking more and more like me.’
‘They say love makes us alike.’
‘…….’
No. I haven’t killed anyone lately, and I’ve been living quite peacefully.
It’s not the law of conservation of anger, it’s just that I’m standing still and Iros is pissed off.
‘Ugh. I guess I’d better step up.
Iros does have a way of snapping people in two.
It’s time for a quick return to Sierra the Wicked.
With a smile on her lips and her arms crossed, she tilted her body at a jaunty angle and spoke to a staff member walking down the corridor, as if to say, ‘Listen up.
‘Even the crown prince could walk in without an appointment, but this branch manager here seems busier than him?’
‘What?’
The employee, who looked back at me like I was crazy, snorted.
‘I’m sure the emperor would be happy to see you without an appointment, so the way out is that way.’
‘The emperor can simply appear. Who would dare oppose a saint?’, you cheeky bastard?’
‘Yes, yes. No, what did you say……?’
I chuckled and raised my face arrogantly.
‘No one would dare to stop me unless they wanted to be sliced to pieces, and there’s such a human being in front of me, standing on two legs?’
I shuddered as I saw Iros, his sword drawn and dripping with flesh, beside me.
Then he shuddered and backed away at a terrifying pace.
The problem was, there were stairs right behind him.
‘Stop, saint. It’s a real saint……! Ugh, ouch, ouch, I don’t want to die!’
‘Ugh, look! Danger-’
‘Off!’
Kudangtang, kudangtang, kudangtang! The stairs were low, but the sound of the fall was tremendous.
It happened so fast that I held my hands up and blinked in panic.
‘No, I was going to tell you there’s a staircase behind me, but you’re still alive, judging by the way you screamed.’
‘Well, I can’t blame you for falling them.’
‘You look strangely refreshed.’
‘Do you think so?’
‘Yes. Very much so. Let’s go down there. You must be injured, and I must heal you.’
‘Why would you heal a human who looked down on a saint? Since when are you such a saint?’
Iris pouted with a scowl, and I looked at him as if he were talking nonsense.
‘He’s trying to extort money for his treatment. Why do you ask?’
‘Oh. That’s right, that’s why you’re a saint, Sierra.’
At my nonchalant remark, Iros smiled wryly and sheathed his sword.
Thud, thud. I was relieved to see the sharp metal disappear before my eyes.
I’d been worried that my pinkie had finally gone mad today.
‘Okay, let’s go collect the vet bills…….’
‘A lot.’
‘-No, let’s go downstairs to treat the injured one.’
With a mask of worry, I approached the employee who was shaking, clutching his knees, and crying.
‘My goodness, there are stairs back there, why did you roll carelessly ‘on your own’?’
‘Hee hee!’
‘Let me take care of you.’
‘Oh, for God’s sake……!’
‘Sure, I’ll make sure you’re okay.’
But I’ll take some money. You’re wearing some nice clothes. You must be in a high position.
I’m sure you’ll make good money, and you’ll be able to make ends meet if I get paid for your treatment.
Mmm. She hid her bitterness with a smile and continued to heal people today.
Ah, I’m such a good saint, cackling.
‘So we’ll have to negotiate the price of the treatment-’
‘What’s going on there?’
‘Let’s do it, huh? Who is it?’
A gaunt man I hadn’t seen since I’d been here trudged over.
He wasn’t quite as inhumanly handsome as Iros or the Crown Prince, but he was nice enough.
‘Hmph.’
‘Sierra, do you want me to blindfold you myself?’
‘Kuluk!’
She looked like she was going to dig her eyes out, not cover them.
It’s a shame because I would have asked her name at least once if it weren’t for Iros’s husky voice in my ear.
No, no, no. The thought quickly vanished as Iros’s eyes tinged with jealousy.
‘Hahaha. You know I like that, don’t you, Pink?’
‘I don’t know, but how would I, a mere guardian of a saint’s heart that flutters at the sight of a man who seems to like it, know?’
I pouted.
I glared at the source of my cute little pink pout.
The man flinched under my piercing gaze and automatically took a step back, not knowing why he had done so.
I’m the one who caused Iros’s pout, so why am I glaring? Where’s your conscience? I’m the one who cares. Who cares about conscience?
‘I’m Esh, the head of the Upper Elotta branch, and if you’ll excuse me, may I ask why my people are doing this?’
‘Fair enough, Esh.’
‘You fell down the stairs and I gave you some medical attention, didn’t I, staff?’
Iros covered his mouth and smirked down at the employee.
She gave him a look that said, ‘Better answer me if you don’t want to fall down the stairs one more time, and he nodded in a way that made her brain shake.
‘Ho-ho. So, you’re the branch manager at the top of Elotta?’
‘What? Yes. That’s right.’
So you’re my money man, hooray!
I grinned, showing him the gold plaque I’d received from Viscount Ellis.
‘Unlike the crown prince or the emperor, it takes a month to get an appointment to see him, and ‘this employee’ here said it would take a month to see him, so I was worried, but luckily I found him quickly.’
When the employee saw the gold plaque, his mouth dropped in contemplation.
The gold plaque is the best of the bronze, silver, and gold plaques available at the top of Elotta, and the number of gold plaques is always kept at ten, so having a gold plaque means having a gold plaque.
‘It means that you are an honored guest who must be served without question at the top.’
The white-faced employee almost fainted.
Seeing the gold plaque, the branch manager’s face quickly changed, and he straightened his clothes and bowed deeply.
‘Ah. My employee was rude to your honor. I apologize on their behalf.’
‘That’s fine, you can repay that apology in kind, right?’
‘What?’
Esh, who had been bowed to the waist, poked his head up, a cold sweat forming on his cheeks.
Come on. I’ve never seen such a monster spawned by capitalism before, have you?
My grin couldn’t have been more sinister at the thought of flaying another human being. Giggle.
So I took advantage of the staff’s rudeness, and the fact that Viscount Ellis thought we were benefactors, and I ripped off the head of the Esh branch.
‘Well then, I’ll leave you to take care of the things I told you about, and the manpower. Take care, Prefect Esh, you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you.’
‘Ha, ha, of course. You are a favorite and a guest of our High Lord…….’
Maybe it’s just me, but I remember him being a little warmer when I first met him, but now he looks like Jozef in all his worn-out glory.
I feel like I’m in the presence of the undead, flesh and blood, and soul.
Anyway, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a good time, and I’m feeling proud like I’ve done what I’m supposed to do.
It’s refreshing to see that I’m not a bad girl after all.
‘I don’t need to see you off, I’ll come back another time, just make sure you take care of what I told you.’
‘Yes, kuluk.’
‘Aah! The branch manager has collapsed!’
‘He looks like his soul’s been sucked out of him! Somebody grab him!’
‘My God, he’s so weak.’
I wasn’t even as hard on myself as I used to be(?), but I fainted like an office worker who had to deal with a terrible client.
He gave me a big hug and a divine blessing to keep going, and I left the top with a heavy money bag.
‘What do you think? Did I do well?’
‘You were very saintly.’
‘Is that a compliment or an insult?’
‘You were so saintly that I felt sorry for myself.’
‘Is that why you don’t like it?’
I asked pointedly, stopping in my tracks, and Iros smirked, glanced around, and cupped his hands around my ears.
‘I was just relieved to see that my saint would be fine no matter where I threw her, that’s what she is, she’s too cool.’
‘What? Ahaha!’
He said that everything about a person looks better when they’re wearing a beanstalk, and Iros is the perfect match.
I burst out laughing, tiny teardrops hanging from the corners of my eyes.
‘I thought you were going to nag me.’
‘You don’t deserve to be nagged,’ he said, ’but I gave up pretty quickly, so it’s nice to have that side effect.’
Dude, I don’t know if I’m complimenting or criticizing you.
‘Oh, by the way, there’s something I need to tell you.’
‘Seriously?’
‘Yeah. It’s something I said I’d tell you when I’m sure I know everything.’
I looked nervous, and Iros tightened his expression and clenched his fists.
‘Then tell me. Because I’m ready to hear it.’
‘Yeah. So, I mean…….’
I took a deep breath and despite the sweat on my hands, I managed to keep my voice calm, which wasn’t as difficult as I thought.
