Chapter 442: 442 The Spider-Man Killers, Holding the Sun, Otto and Peter's Determination, The Three Spiders vs. Morlun The Inheritor.
*Morlun's POV*
I passed by Dex, not caring about his thoughts. I know his loyalty is fragile, but if there's one thing I've learned from hundreds of worlds, it's that fear is a great fuel, and I am the embodiment of fear to him. That's why I know Dex won't betray me, and even if he does, there's nothing he can do to stop me.
Dex is unable to understand the type of existence that the Inheritors of Reality are.
In the multiverse, some deities manifest through totems, which maintain the connection between humanity and animals.
Lion, octopus, vulture, rhinoceros—each of them, regardless of how they obtain their powers in every variant of the world, are chosen by their respective totems. Just like the Spider chose Spider-Man, the leech chose us.
It's curious, destiny can be changed. We went from being a parasitic totem, the worst of all, to the top, and this is because we can consume others and add their strength to ours. Of course, it's not a perfect power; we can't fully gain the power of those we devour. However, after much "research," we discovered our natural prey... the spiders...
From them, we gain the most power, abilities, vitality—everything!
They were born to be our prey, which is why we hunt and eat them. It's not like a battle between good and evil. It's not that we hate them or despise them, although I can't say the same for the rest of my family. But at least personally, I don't hate them. It's not personal, a lion doesn't hate a rabbit.
If you want to hate someone, hate God, the world, or the fate that made them our food...
...
I ignored Dex and went to Octopus's reactor. That man is always obsessed with having the sun in his hands, such a foolish thing. But this time, it'll be useful; I just need to turn it on and destabilize it.
There's a risk of killing a spider if I do this, but as long as there's enough of its body left, I'll be able to consume it.
The reactor started to power up and created an incandescent sphere in its core. It's an impressive sight, it almost makes you think of a miniature sun.
After manipulating the control panel, the sun began to deform and grow. I made sure it would take some time. Although receiving the explosion isn't something I want, I don't want to burn my clothes.
I jumped out of the window and moved away, jumping from roof to roof. Taking advantage of already knowing the octopus's location, I decided to finish him off. It's annoying to leave scientists alive, so it's still a priority to kill Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, or Hank Pym when they decide to get in my way. Although personally, I hate magicians the most... they're hard to kill. That's why I always prefer to finish off the spider quickly and move on to the next world.
I'm getting closer...
*End of POV*
...
It had been a while since Allen ended his stream, partly because of reasons everyone knows. Allen decided to take advantage of the fact that the prom had ended, and Gwen, MJ, and Felicia were happy talking among themselves to show his face. Of course, he would start with those women who had some relation to him but weren't as present.
Kimiko – I feel bad for not being there for you in that time of need.
Allen smiled warmly, "Don't worry, Kimiko, you and all of you were there with me."
Cate – I almost had a heart attack when I saw you had been hurt.
"I know, it won't happen again."
Emma Frost – Darling, can I visit you?
"You can, but there's no need to use the Chat for that. My doors are open for you."
Nikky – How envious...
"You know where I live; you can come if you want to, although I warn you, there are a lot of scary women here."
Nikky "I'll take my chances!~"
Rías – Mmm, you're alive, that's what matters~
Akeno– Ara ara~ don't believe her calm attitude... Rías couldn't sleep for days because of worry, and of course, I couldn't either~
Rías – Akeno!!
Akeno – Ufufufu~
"It is always an honor to have beautiful girls care about me, thanks to both of you."
Rias – You never change *She blushes*
Rogue – Thanks for coming back... Allen...
"Don't say that, I can feel the sadness in your words... I'm not going anywhere, and I'm not dying."
Ruby – Promise?
"Yes, Jean, I promise."
Maria Hill – Allen...
"I know, I'll visit you to talk more... Aunt Maria..."
Ivy – I'm glad to see you're okay, Director.
Harleen – I told you he was tough to kill, now stop crying locked up in the office.
Ivy – I'm not! *Embarrassed*
"Don't worry, I wouldn't leave you without proper supervision, of course, I'm also thinking of going to Arkham to reward your efforts."
Harleen – It's not necessary! Ran away
Ivy – Pervert...
Barbara – I already knew you were fine, but seeing you again is such a joy... although.
"Yeah, don't worry... I'll come visit you too, or you can come yourself if you want; in fact, I'm surprised you don't visit often."
Barbara – I'm worried about causing you trouble...you know who's watching me all the time.
"Haha of course"
Asia – Thank God, I've been praying several times a day for you to be fine...
"That's very kind of you, thank you."
Starfire – Hehe, I knew you'd be okay~
"Your faith in me is incredible."
Starfire – But am I right?~
"Yes, you are~"
Donna – Master...
"Donna, trust me, I won't die."
Donna – Of course I do!
After talking with the girls who still didn't know much about what had happened or had little knowledge, Allen started the stream to ease his viewers. The main topic centered around Allen's new look.
– Much tougher, I like it!
– You look like a villain, hahaha
– Now I'm more excited to have you step on me!~
Allen had a blank expression as he looked at the comments, which ranged from teasing to fetishistic hints.
"You guys lack..."
Allen smiled, a buzzing in his head. It wasn't his spider-sense, but something else. After that, there was an explosion from a massive blast that engulfed a third of Manhattan Island. Allen shook his head and returned to the present.
"Damn!"
[Allen, your clairvoyance was activated]
The vision Allen had just seen was his clairvoyance, the power he obtained from "The Boys," but it activates so rarely and at such random moments that Allen had almost forgotten he had it.
"Who's the bastard who wants to destroy my city?!"
Allen's outburst alerted the girls who were beside him.
Allen calmed down, "Sorry, I have to leave you for a moment..."
The girls looked at each other and nodded, Gwen and MJ pulled their superheroine costumes from their inventories. Felicia picked up her phone to call Natasha and inform her.
...
Allen arrived at the building he had seen through his clairvoyance. At the entrance of the building stood a gaunt man with dark circles under his eyes, wearing a dark blue trench coat, it was the man called Dex.
"Mr. Walker, I was waiting for you..."
"..."
"A man named Morlun tampered with Otto Octavius's reactor. It's going to explode at any moment. As for Morlun, he's already gone... Mr. Walker, you must kill him. Don't let that monster escape. He and his entire family have committed such horrible acts that they don't deserve redemption..."
"..."
Dex watched Allen disappear without answering. For a moment, he wanted to give him the gun he had stored. It was designed to kill Morlun, but it would only work if he was weakened to the extreme. However, upon looking into Allen's eyes, he felt that his help was unnecessary.
Allen stood in front of the miniature sun. Normally, a fusion reactor isn't unstable; the miniature sun needs to maintain a constant power source, and if it's cut off, it won't explode, it will just disappear.
This is the difference between a fission reactor, which is a common nuclear reactor, and a fusion one. The ideal is a fusion reactor since it wouldn't generate waste or radiation, and, of course, there wouldn't be a risk of explosion.
However, the reactor in front of Allen had been tampered with.
"Rebecca"
The green-haired girl appeared and connected to the control panel.
"Shit, this looks bad, honey!"
Allen looked at the reactor, and indeed, there was no time. It started to contract at an alarming speed, and when it reached the size of a golf ball, it exploded. However, it couldn't expand too much because of Allen.
Allen surrounded the explosion with an electromagnetic field. He could have sent it into space if he wanted, but instead, he decided to absorb it.
Four dark pillars appeared, surrounding the sun, and then a black fog began to cover it.
The people in the chat who lived in New York felt relieved.
Tony – Damn, just when I leave the country!
Thor – I'm in Asgard with Hulk, I invited him for a tour, I'm sorry man
Hulk – Hulk feels bad not being there...
Ruby – My heart almost jumped out of my chest! If Allen didn't have clairvoyance, what kind of disaster would have occurred?!
Allen remained silent while continuing to contain the explosion. But Ruby's words made him reflect. If he didn't have that power, he still would have reacted and stopped the destruction, but he couldn't have prevented some buildings from being lost before that. Whoever did this is cruel and heartless...
"Morlun..." Allen murmured that name.
...
The Inheritors are despicable beings who do not hesitate to kill anyone who gets in their way.
Dr. Otto was escaping with Peter as fast as his arms allowed him. The mechanical limbs swung above the buildings with their powerful strength.
"Otto, put me down! We need to get you to a hospital!"
Peter was being carried over Otto's shoulder, but his worried expression wasn't out of fear of Morlun catching up to them; it was because Otto was losing too much blood.
"Dr. Octavius!"
"..."
Otto didn't respond, instead glancing behind them every chance he got. The adrenaline coursing through his veins suppressed the pain. He knew it; the man who had almost killed him was a monster they should never have faced. His only choice was to flee, to escape to the ends of the earth.
Peter watched the blood dripping from Otto's arm with a sinking heart. He wasn't a doctor, but he knew enough to realize Otto would soon bleed out. Yet Otto refused to stop.
The man's eyes were bloodshot as his breathing grew ragged and his vision blurred.
Otto Octavius was a reasonable and highly analytical man, but at this moment, he refused to think logically. His entire body was running on pure instinct and sheer willpower.
"Urgh!" Otto coughed up blood and suddenly lost control of his movements. He could no longer operate his mechanical arms, which caused them to descend into an alley.
"Otto!"
His survival instincts and the adrenaline pushing him forward were no longer enough. Otto clutched his severed arm as he set Peter down on the ground.
"I'm sorry, kid. You'll have to go on without me..."
"I won't!" Peter pulled out his phone to call the police and paramedics. "Hello? I need immediate help! A madman attacked me and Dr. Otto Octavius. He's lost an arm and is in critical condition!"
"The police won't help, Peter..." Otto's melancholy look was for his wife Martha, who he may never see again.
Peter clenched his fist in frustration. "If only I had the power..."
"Nothing would change..." a cold voice chilled the blood of both of them.
"Impossible!" Peter froze, his eyes widening as he noticed Morlun standing at the alley's entrance, his hands tucked into his coat.
"Once I find my prey, it's over..."
Morlun began walking toward Peter at a deliberate pace. The young man backed away and stumbled. There was something about Morlun that filled him with terror—the purest, most primal fear. It was as if every instinct in his body screamed at him to run.
"Run, Peter!"
This time, it was Otto's voice that snapped Peter out of his trance. The young man wanted to argue, but the determined look in Otto's eyes silenced him.
"You can leave, Peter Parker..."
Morlun's words stunned Peter. He didn't believe him.
Morlun narrowed his eyes. "You don't have the spider within you. You're not prey. And as I've said before, this isn't personal. Consider yourself fortunate..."
Peter was in shock. This cruel man, who hadn't hesitated to tear Otto's arm off, was letting him go?
"Just go, kid... I'll be fine."
That was a lie. Peter could see it, and Otto wasn't even trying to hide it. Morlun was going to kill him.
"What about Dr. Octavius?" Peter's voice trembled. He already knew the answer, but he wanted to believe it wouldn't be as bad as he feared.
"I'm going to eat him..."
"...Huh?"
A chilling silence fell over them. Peter couldn't process what Morlun meant. Eat him? Was it metaphorical?
Morlun didn't waste any more time and began walking toward them, an aura of death and blood surrounding him. This man was a natural aberration, a multiversal plague, a monster who traveled between worlds. Unlike his brother Daemos, who had consumed nearly a thousand worlds, Morlun was only slightly behind that despicable record.
It was horrifying to think that in almost a thousand universes, this man had stolen Spider-Man from their world.
Tears welled in Peter's eyes as he stepped in front of Otto. He stood firm. With or without powers, as Spider-Man or just Peter Parker, he wouldn't leave someone behind to save himself.
"You're all the same," Morlun said, almost amused. "No matter the outcome, none of you leave without a fight." He extended his hand. "At least I'll grant you a swift death—"
"Shut up!"
"It's always the same. Each of you fights with courage and determination. Some resist for years... others only seconds... but in the end, the result is inevitable."
Morlun was fascinated by Peter. The young man's knees trembled, sweat poured down his back, and his face was pale. Yet his gaze remained fixed, his jaw clenched, and he didn't retreat.
"Even so, the result won't change... huh?"
Morlun leaped backward as a bullet struck where he had been standing. The projectile crackled with electricity, forcing him to retreat.
Landing in front of Morlun was Natasha Romanoff, clad in her Black Widow suit with her face concealed by a helmet.
"An adult harassing a kid in an alley? You're a real creep," Natasha said with disdain as she stared at Morlun. In response, he smiled.
"This is unusual. A Natasha Romanoff was chosen as a spider totem? I've never seen that before."
"Totem?"
"That's right. But first, allow me to introduce myself. I am Morlun, one of the Heirs of Reality. As for your question, all those who gain powers related to animals are totems chosen by their respective—"
MJ and Gwen descended from above, their webs wrapping around Morlun. Neither of them intended to be patient with a psychopath.
Peter collapsed, turning to see Otto barely conscious.
"Otto!"
"You should've left... but thank you, Peter."
"Don't talk! We need to get you to a hospital!"
Natasha approached, spraying a sealant onto Otto's wound to stop the bleeding. She then injected him with a syringe.
"This solution will temporarily seal the wound. It dissolves in pure water, but it should hold until we get him to a hospital. Let's move..."
"...!"
The spider senses of the three women flared with an intensity they'd never felt before. Morlun laughed, effortlessly breaking the webs that had restrained him.
"Sorry, kid, but you'll have to take him yourself..." Natasha stood, her expression grim. There was something about Morlun that was not only terrifying but infuriating to her.
"Thank you," Peter said, hoisting Otto and hesitantly retreating. He couldn't help but worry. Three superheroes against one villain; they should be able to win, right?
"Three spider totems, each unique. This must be my lucky day," Morlun said, smirking. "I can feast well here."
"...!"
MJ, Gwen, and Natasha braced themselves. Their senses buzzed as if pleading with them to flee. But they couldn't let such a dangerous man roam free.
MJ tensed her jaw. Gwen clenched her fists. Natasha moved her hand to her waist. She had her gun with her and didn't hesitate to pull it out and shoot at Morlun but he took the bullets without flinching, as if mocking he grabbed one of the bullets in the air and fired it with his fingers at Natasha, she dodged it but the bullet passed close to one of her arms ripping her suit.
MJ shot her webs from the ceiling to trap Morlun, but he broke them with ease. However, it gave Gwen enough time to descend to ground level and fire two webs at Morlun's sides. She attached the webs to a trash container and pulled it, slamming it into Morlun and knocking him out of the alley onto the street.
People screamed and began to run. It wasn't uncommon for this to happen in a city full of villains and superheroes.
Morlun got up and grabbed a truck, hurling it toward the crowd.
"You bastard!"
MJ couldn't believe Morlun would attack innocent people. She used her web to stop the truck from crushing them.
Morlun laughed. All the spiders had similar behavior. "Heroism is so incredible; thanks to this mentality, I was able to kill so many of you..."
Morlun only needed to hold a child in the air and Spider-Man would come at him, still with broken bones and on the verge of death.
"Damn you!"
Natasha attacked back by dropping an empty truck on Morlun. But he reached out his hand and made sense of it without much effort.
"It's very strong..."
Natasha was shocked, Morlun laughed and threw the truck back at her. Gwen appeared and grabbed Natasha to avoid the truck that crashed into a building.
"Carrying a person makes you slow..."
Morlun's voice appeared next to Gwen, and she was surprised by the speed he had. Gwen was no fool; she had quickly seen the overwhelming difference in strength between them; Morlun was only playing against her.
"One less spider..."
'Allen...'
...
"Huh?" MJ dropped to the ground with a pale face unable to believe what had happened.
