I was Kicked Out of the Hunter’s Guild

Chapter 12 - I Slept Without Charging Yesterday

The 28th Guild embarked on its first mission after the change of adjutant.

The objective was to destroy a collective colony of Abyss creatures located in the northern part of the border area.

The mission’s difficulty level was classified as B.

For the 28th Guild, which typically handled A-class missions without any significant challenges, this was a relatively light task. Isena and Yujin were preparing for the sortie with ease in their hearts.

A total of 30 people were assigned to this mission, Isena and Yujin, both S-rank hunters, seven A-rank hunters, eighteen B-rank hunters, and finally, three C-rank hunters, who were almost negligible in terms of combat power.

‘Come to think of it… this arrangement was also put together by Jinhyunn. Seriously, why does that guy keep assigning these incompetent C-rank hunters to missions? Aren’t there even rumors about some of these idiots offering their bodies just to secure a spot on the team? I was too preoccupied this time to fix it, but from now on, I’ll have to reorganize things properly.’

In Isena’s eyes, the C-rank hunters were no better than dead weight.

Glancing at the nervous expressions on the faces of the C-rank hunters, she couldn’t help but frown.

Still, since it was already too late to change the personnel lineup just before the mission, she let it slide for now. She boarded the airship with the rest of the guild members.

“Alright, let’s move out,” she commanded.

“Yes, Guild Master,” came the response.

The airship began to move under her orders.

At the same time, Choi Han’s voice came through, initiating the mission briefing.

“Then, I will now explain the operation plan. We will descend at Point B, which is located 3 kilometers south of Area A, our target. From there, we will advance toward the enemy camp. While the individual Abyss entities aren’t particularly strong, their numbers are overwhelming. Please follow my instructions and proceed with caution.”

As always, the adjutant stationed in the unit’s situation room was responsible for monitoring the overall battlefield and providing real-time operational commands.

The adjutant’s role was to pinpoint enemy locations using radar, analyze the Abyss forces, and issue appropriate instructions in real-time.

However, neither Isena nor Yujin had much intention of strictly following the adjutant’s orders, just as they hadn’t before.

‘A B-class Abyss mission? Honestly, I could handle this single-handedly. Still, I’ll pretend to listen to his orders… for appearances’ sake.’

‘We’ve been taking down Abyss creatures from A-class missions with smiles. At least this new adjutant won’t be as annoying as Lee Jinhyun, constantly shouting warnings like “it’s dangerous” or “retreat.” Right?’

Despite their skepticism, the two hunters—elites from the government’s training programs—expected the new adjutant to at least show some competence.

And so, after a short while…

“We have arrived at our destination. Please complete your final checks.”

As soon as the announcement came through, the lighthearted atmosphere that had surrounded the group until now dissipated.

Even though this was a B-class mission, Isena and Yujin were still S-class hunters. On the battlefield, letting one’s guard down was simply not an option.

With this serious determination, Isena began one final inspection of the weapon in her hands.

Rosecutter.

A sword measuring 80 centimeters in length, with an intricate and elegant rose pattern engraved along its blade.

At first glance, it appeared to be a simple yet beautiful weapon. However, its true nature was far more formidable—this blade was the pinnacle of modern science and technology, one of the strongest weapons ever designed exclusively for S-class hunters.

Its saw-like blade was crafted from monomolecular cutters, capable of slicing through virtually anything. When activated, the blade oscillated and rotated like a chainsaw, further enhancing its destructive power.

This terrifying weapon could cut through solid rock and steel with ease, and even the Abyss creatures’ notoriously durable hides were no match, it would tear through them like tofu.

The weapon’s weight, however, was a staggering 40 kilograms.

For an ordinary person, it was nearly impossible to lift it—let alone wield it effectively. But for Isena, an S-class hunter with a superhuman physique, the Rosecutter felt as light as a feather, and she handled it with effortless grace.

It was this weapon, her ultimate partner, that had brought her to where she is today, a symbol of her power and achievements.

After confirming the blade’s readiness one last time, Isena steadied her mind, preparing herself as she always did before a mission.

But then…

“…Uh?”

A puzzled expression suddenly crept across her face.

Noticing this, Yujin, who had been focused on her preparations, turned to her with a questioning look.

“What is it? What’s wrong?”

“This… this can’t be happening. Why is the charge so low?”

“What?”

Alarmed by Isena’s words, Yujin quickly leaned in to check the Rosecutter’s side panel.

To her shock, the charge level displayed was a mere 20%.

A weapon with such a low charge could only operate at less than half of its usual efficiency. Its cutting power, typically unmatched, was now significantly diminished—far from its lethal potential.

“No… What the hell is this? We’re about to charge into battle, and I’m just finding out about this now?!” Isena’s voice was filled with frustration. “Didn’t you check it last night? And where’s the charger?!”

“It’s always fully charged at 100%! I don’t understand how this could happen!” Yujin said, just as flustered.

As the two argued, a realization suddenly dawned on Isena. A single, forgotten detail surfaced in her mind—a detail she had overlooked until now.

‘…This… This must be Lee Jinhyun.’

That name surfaced in her thoughts, sharp and bitter.

At that moment, Isena understood exactly how this situation had come to be.

‘That’s right… Now that I think about it, he was always the one who charged the weapons. Damn it… that guy! Even now, he’s screwing me over until the very end.’

Strictly speaking, however, the current situation couldn’t exactly be blamed on Lee Jinhyun.

Weapon charging was supposed to be handled the night before a mission, precisely to avoid situations like this. Moreover, it was the weapon owner’s responsibility, something Isena had overlooked.

But instead of acknowledging her oversight, Isena silently cursed the absent man, pouring out insults in her mind.

At that moment…

“…Isena… Isena… What do we do?”

“What?”

Isena turned her head, only to see Yujin’s face, pale and stricken with worry.

Seeing Yujin in such a state caused a mixture of doubt and anxiety to spread across Isena’s face.

Yujin, usually composed and confident, was now trembling as she clutched her weapon, her expression grim.

Yujin’s weapon was a sniper rifle:

Brunak MK 4.

A powerful firearm with a 20mm caliber and a maximum firing range of 10 kilometers.

It could switch seamlessly between burst fire and single-shot mode, with enough firepower to pierce through armored vehicles. When toggled into sniper mode, it was even capable of destroying main battle tanks—a truly fearsome weapon.

But right now…

At this critical moment…

The weapon, hailed as one of the most advanced firearms, was little more than a heavy, useless chunk of metal.

And the reason?

“No ammunition?” Isena asked sharply.

“Uh… yeah. Normally, the magazines are always packed with my gear, but today, they’re not there. All I have are less than 40 rounds that I keep as my basic carry.”

“W-wait… You’re kidding, right? Tell me this isn’t happening.”

“…”

Yujin lowered her head, her silence confirming the grim reality.

Isena didn’t need Yujin to explain any further, she could already see what this meant.

“This too… This is Lee Jinhyun’s doing. That bastard…”

The way Isena spoke, it was as if she believed Lee Jinhyun had deliberately orchestrated this situation just to spite them.

And yet, among the hunters quietly observing the situation from their seats on the airship, not a single one sympathized with Isena’s outburst.

‘Seriously? How long has it been since the adjutant left, and you’re already blaming him?’

‘I had a feeling this would happen… The guild’s been a mess from the start.’

As they realized how dire the situation had become, the hunters began to feel genuine anxiety about the upcoming battle.

And to make matters worse, Yujin’s Brunak MK 4 used custom, proprietary ammunition, meaning it was impossible to borrow bullets from anyone else.

As the two S-class hunters grappled with their mounting anxiety, the airship’s announcement cut through the tension:

“We have arrived at our destination. Begin descent.”

“Kuh…”

“…Damn it…”

In the end, the two women, unable to find any way to resolve the situation, could do nothing but grit their teeth.

Without a charger, there was no way to recharge the Rosecutter. And without extra ammunition, it was impossible to replenish the Brunak’s supply of bullets.

And yet, turning back now—abandoning the mission entirely—would be just as absurd as pressing forward unprepared.

In the end, Isena and Yujin had no choice but to head to the battlefield. One with a weapon that was practically a blunt sword, and the other with a sniper rifle nearly out of ammo.
