I Was Mistaken as the Novel’s Hidden Boss

Chapter 2: prelude

To be more accurate, what's my purpose?

All I know from the novel content is the synopsis. And the title. I don't know any characters except for the main character. That too, cannot be called 'knew', since my information regarding them only spans to their name and age, and the fact that one of them is a regressor, who right now is probably busy preparing for revenge.

Yes, revenge.

'Solo Hunter of the Dragon Lineage' is such a cliche. Its main plot is predictable, and the character is your typical F-rank hunter, vowing to seek revenge after becoming a bait and abandoned in an D-rank turned S-rank dungeon. Honestly, I don't really understand the craze for this novel. But maybe, reading a successful revenge plot gives you some kind of weird satisfaction or a rush of dopamine comparable to when you have the highest score in a college civil engineer exam.

Of course, it's just a guess.

I remember reading some reviews about the novel. They praise, regardless of the cliche, the novel got almost everything right. They also include spoilers, but I'm not interested so I just skim through before closing the page.

The only sentence that I remember is 'Academy'. So maybe the theme is that.

Hmm, but, I'm suddenly curious, what year is this? The MC's regression starts from the year 2065, I believe. I don't know if the academia here is the same as on earth, but if yes, then MC should spend three years before graduating. Even if it's no use because I'm blind about the plot, at least I could use that as the reference point.

But, ugh, I still have no idea what I'm gonna do.

This reincarnation seems pointless, man. I mean, I don't really want to fight humanity just because I'm a monster. Well, if they seriously threaten my life, then I guess I could fight a bit then run. But that's beside the point. At least in the Wisteria world, I'm not blindly prosecuted and could go on adventures as I like.

"Wait, adventure?"

Suddenly, I gained an epiphany. I looked up, to the red gate above the sky.

This world has gates right? Are the gates different from each other? How vast is the world inside the gate? What kind of creature resides there?

All of a sudden, I became curious. About the gate. About the world beyond the gate.

Of course, there will be danger too. Probably could threaten my life.

But, at least I could feel the thrill of exploring something new, right? It's far better than wandering in this society as a public enemy.

"Hmm, alright. Let's give it a shot."

In my heart, I set aside the confusion and seed a goal instead.

Right after I concluded that, before taking action, I heard footsteps quickly approaching me from the east.

I looked in that direction, and soon, three individuals could be seen. All of them wearing different equipment, but all of them wearing—what I believe—a jet black combat suit.

From their demeanor, I could tell they are the hunters that man shouted earlier.

Hm? But how can they bypass my [Inferno Great Wall]?

Just then, a helicopter could be seen above.

Duh, of course they parachuted. Silly me.

Maybe because I already cast aside my confusion and found a new goal, I didn't feel tense or panic at all. Rather, I feel calm. But I still want to avoid combat if possible. So maybe, I could talk with them, like a civilized person.

"Hey~ can we—" just as I open my mouth, three things happen in an instant.

First, I realize I'm talking in a different language entirely. Even if I talk in Korean, the output voice is something like monster grumble.

Second, the woman in the front, whom I assume is their leader, suddenly unleashes ice magic with her sword. So she's a magic swordsman.

And third, since I felt that magic could inflict pain on me, I reacted by casting [Ignis Lance]. Our magic clashed in the air, causing a thermal explosion. The aftermath resulted in a fog of sand, obscuring my vision of them.

It was then I realized. These people are not civilized at all.

Peaceful communication is definitely out of the equation.
