Chapter 64 - II
Shi Wu suddenly thought of something and asked, “Is Xiao Liu doing well?”
“He’s doing well. He’s in Xiangshan Village with eldest brother. He’s chubby and fair now, and absolutely adorable,” Shi Yi shared.
“That’s great; otherwise, I’d feel guilty towards his late parents.” Shi Wu suddenly sighed.
“Well, what’s going on?” Shi Yi inquired. “Why do you say that?”
“Third brother, have you forgotten? It was Xiao Liu’s parents who saved me during the flood.”
Shi Wu knew that his third brother was aware of this, but it seemed that he had momentarily forgotten about it.
“If it weren’t for me, Xiao Liu’s parents wouldn’t have perished.”
“That’s in the past. As long as we always remember the kindness of Xiao Liu’s parents and take good care of Xiao Liu in the future, he can find happiness. Don’t hold it in your heart.” Shi Yi advised after being reminded by Shi Wu. It seemed that Shi Wu felt quite guilty about the incident.
“Well, I understand, Third Brother. Don’t worry. When Xiao Liu grows up, I’ll marry him and protect him for the rest of my life. I’ll treat him well.” Shi Wu declared resolutely.
Shi Yi almost choked when he heard this and quickly cleared his throat. He patted Shi Wu’s strong arm and said, “Let’s put this matter aside for now. We’ll wait until Xiao Liu grows up.”
Shi Wu scratched his head in embarrassment. He chuckled and replied, “I’ll listen to the third brother.”
Shi Yi shook his head internally and encouraged him, “Work hard, and let’s strive to become a general.”
After Shi Wu received encouragement, he was full of energy and promptly began wrestling with other soldiers, as if he had been injected with a dose of adrenaline.
.
After only six days of sailing, the ship reached Xizhou City, a place that looked particularly grand and magnificent. Their primary task this time was to assist in constructing the firearms warehouse. Over the winter, the remaining four craftsmen had produced a batch of firebombs with Pei Xing’s help. The firearms warehouse was still under construction, and Pei Xing wasn’t too busy yet.
They were assigned to a small, clean courtyard within the general’s residence. It was only then that Shi Yi truly felt at ease and nestled in Pei Xing’s embrace.
“It feels like a century has passed since my time on the island. I’ve felt so disconnected from the outside world. Humans are indeed social animals.”
Pei Xing touched his soft cheek and said, “Wasn’t life on the island quite enjoyable?”
“Of course, you think it’s enjoyable because you kept bullying me.” Shi Yi pouted.
Pei Xing chuckled and gave him a loving kiss. “Well, I’ll make it up to you.”
Beyond the city walls was the territory of the Xirong people. Even though the two sides were in a truce, there were still occasional Xirong individuals conducting business at the city gates.
The two of them first visited the area where the Xirong people were trading and took a look. The Xirong people were surprisingly tall and robust, with fair skin typical of their kind. While their eye color was mostly black, there were some with other eye colors.
The items they found at the market were quite novel. Pei Xing picked out a gem-encrusted dagger for Shi Yi to use for self-defense.
Shi Yi unexpectedly discovered a small mirror at one of the stalls. The back of the mirror seemed to be coated with a layer of mercury, which made the reflection very clear. He spent two taels of silver to purchase it and also bought some flaming red coral.
Even though there weren’t many vendors in this area, there was a wide variety of goods available. There were people selling milk candy, and they tried half a catty, finding them quite tasty with a combination of sour and sweet flavors.
After shopping, Pei Xing took him back to the city and brought him to a clothing store. They each bought several clothes, and when they could no longer carry all the items, they decided to head back.
.
As the sun began to set, Pei Xing took Shi Yi to watch a theater. The place was lively in the evening, with a large round stage in the center. Dancers were performing on it, dressed in revealing outfits that exposed their pale, slender legs and thin waists. Some of them appeared to have no breasts and could easily be mistaken for women.
Shi Yi stared intently at one of the performers, trying to determine their gender. However, he accidentally bumped into Pei Xing’s back, causing him to cry out in pain. His nose stung, nearly bringing tears to his eyes.
Pei Xing embraced him, patted his head, and squeezed his waist a bit possessively as he carried him to the second floor.
In a private room on the second floor, they found Zhao Hong, who looked even more disgruntled than he had a moment ago.
Upon their arrival, Zhao Hong pretended to cough and looked away. Shi Yi regarded him with suspicion, then turned his attention to the alluring performer on the stage.
“General Zhao, tsk tsk, I didn’t realize it. It turns out you have a preference for people like this.”
Sighing inwardly, Shi Yi couldn’t help but think that the sterner the man, the more they seemed to enjoy sultriness. He couldn’t help but remark on the world’s diversity.
