Chapter 20: CHAPTER 20
"Meaning those two who got off the bus, Komuro-kun and Miyamoto-san, don't belong with us anyway! Let's stick together to survive!"
"He's seriously insane!" Okada gritted his teeth.
"Indeed, he is comparable to a recruitment officer for a religious cult," Saeko said.
"Comparable to? No, that is exactly what he's doing! Just look at the people who are listening to his crap. They are a cult! This marks the birth of the Shido Religion."
"Bullshit! What the hell is the Shido Religion?" Niikaz snapped, annoyance evident in her voice.
"Look outside. To escape, we need to leave this bus," Saeko said, glancing at the people wandering outside.
"Somehow, we must reach the east police station by crossing Onbetsu Bridge," Hisashi added.
"Indeed, we must keep our promise to meet him there at 7 PM," Saeko continued. Takagi noticed that Saeko seemed to think about him a lot.
"Wow! You really have Komuro on your mind, huh? Aren't you worried about your family?" Takagi asked, a hint of jealousy in her tone.
"I do worry, but my only family is my father, who's overseas at a dojo. Right now, all I can hold onto is my life and our promise to Komuro-kun. My father always taught me that a promise must be kept, even if it costs you your life," Saeko replied calmly.
"Saeko must be like Komuro, right?" Okada said innocently.
"Oi! Okada, you idiot!" Kazu yelled at him.
"Me? Like Komuro-kun? Hahaha, yeah, I kind of like him," she chuckled lightly.
"Ehhhh? Really?" Takagi looked at her with a jealous expression.
"Don't misunderstand, okay? To me, Komuro-kun is like a younger brother. I want to spoil him and take care of him," she smiled softly.
"Yeah, me too, to be honest. When I talk to him, it feels like I'm chatting with a younger brother," Hisashi chuckled.
"So it's true for you too, Hisashi-san," they both laughed together.
"Where do you all live?" Marikawa asked.
"I live next to Imamura. My parents and one little sister. Although we're not related by blood, they are the only family I love dearly," Okada said energetically. Hisashi patted his head lightly.
"For me, the only family I have is Takashi's family since my grandma already passed away," Hisashi smiled.
"I live with my parents near Onbetsu Bridge. I'm worried about them as we speak," Kazu said.
"I live at Onbetsu Bridge too with my older brother, but he's rarely home since he works as a pilot," Nishinoya added.
All of them looked at Niikaz with blank stares. Realizing this, she pointed her index finger at herself, asking, [What? Me?] They nodded in reply.
Sigh, "I'm living alone with no relatives," she lied, not wanting to reveal the truth.
"Takagi-san?" Nishinoya asked.
"My house is in the same area as Hisashi and Komuro's, on the other side of Onbetsu Bridge," Takagi said, glancing at Hirano with boredom.
"Uhm, my parents aren't in the neighborhood, but I'll follow Takagi-san to the end of the world," Hirano said, fidgeting like a nervous girl.
(Urk, that's gross!) Takagi flinched.
Okada and Nishinoya gave him a thumbs-up.
"Where is your family, Hirano?" Saeko asked calmly.
"My dad is in Amsterdam buying supplies since he's a jewel merchant. My mom is a fashion designer, and she's been in Paris-"
"What?! What time period is this character sheet from?" Takagi exclaimed in shock.
"If we were in a manga right now, I bet his family would own a cruise ship or something," Okada said, with Nishinoya nodding in agreement.
"Hahaha, that would be true," Marikawa giggled.
"Actually, that was my grandpa. My grandma was a violinist. Hahaha," Hirano laughed innocently.
"I-its all fits..." Takagi clutched her head in disbelief, making the others laugh too.
"So, what are you guys going to do? If possible, I don't want to be with Shido-sensei," Nishinoya said.
"I want to come too," Marikawa said, standing up with her bag ready.
"Eh, you do?" Okada was shocked.
"My parents are both dead, and my relatives live far away. It's rude of me to say this, but I don't really like Shido-sensei," she pouted.
"Me too!" Okada raised his hand.
"Me either!" Nishinoya raised his hand.
"Me too," Kazu slowly raised his hand.
Niikaz raised her hand without saying anything.
Hisashi and the rest chuckled at seeing their junior voicing out.
"Then what should we do? This area is foreign to me," Saeko said.
"Leave this to me! I know the way around here. Let me take the lead!" Nishinoya raised his hand high.
"Nishinoya, is your leg okay?" Okada asked.
"Good as new! I feel like I could kick Shido right now!" Nishinoya raised his leg halfway while swinging it a little.
"Ooooh! As expected of the top soccer player!" Okada exclaimed energetically.
"That's not what it means!" Kazu retorted.
"Tee-hee," Nishinoya stuck out his tongue.
"Sorry, but I'm not leaving for now," Niikaz broke the silence.
"Eh? Why? Didn't you say you hate him?" Kazu was shocked, his eyes widening.
"That's not what I mean. I will leave soon, but not now. I have some unfinished business to take care of. I'll catch up with you before night," Niikaz explained, glancing at the digital clock in the top right of her view.
"What do you mean by unfinished business? I won't be satisfied if you don't explain fully," Takagi looked at her seriously.
"Why should I tell you? Aren't you being a busybody?" Niikaz shot back.
Takagi was surprised by her answer and glared at her. "You! What grade are you again?!"
"Takagi-san, c-calm down. Maybe she has her reasons," Hisashi tried to ease the tension.
"Niikaz," Kazu frowned. He didn't understand why Niikaz was so secretive; sometimes, he could see that she was trying to handle things her own way. But at the same time, he wanted her to rely on him. When she looked into his sincere eyes, she softened, feeling a bit happy inside.
"Fine! Look at those three, Takuzo, Naomi, and their friend-if I'm not mistaken, I overheard them call him Yamada as soon as we got inside the bus." The rest of them turned to the three students Niikaz mentioned.
"So what about them?" Hisashi asked.
"Well, I think they're worried about their families too. Even now, they seem to follow that idiot's ideology. Sooner or later, they'll start voicing their concerns. I'm afraid they'll be thrown out and killed by Shido and the others. Didn't you guys hear what he said about Takashi and Rei?" Niikaz answered.
"I don't think Shido-sensei would do that to his students," Hirano tried to deny it.
"Do you really think so, Hirano-senpai?" Nishinoya looked at him with a serious expression.
Hirano then realized and remembered that Nishinoya had almost been killed by Shido before. Luckily, Niikaz had saved him.
"So-sorry," Hirano apologized, feeling regretful.
"No worries," Nishinoya tried to ease the tension.
"Then we should persuade them to come with us," Kazu suggested.
"No, it's not the right time. Just look at them; they look like they're under a spell. I want them to realize it themselves," Niikaz denied it.
"Then we'll go first, but promise me you'll be okay?" Hisashi said.
"Yeah, I promise. By the way-here. Hold this." Niikaz handed a small-looking disc to his palm.
"What is this?" Hisashi asked.
"It's a tracker. Let's say I'm an engineer. So wherever you go, I'll always be able to locate you through these watches." She lifted her hand to show her watch to Hisashi and the others.
"Really, you're full of mysteries, Niikaz," Saeko sighed.
"What about the food?" Nishinoya asked.
"Leave it; it's not much to share anyway. I'll figure something out on the way to you guys. So right now, focus on meeting Takashi and Rei," Niikaz suggested.
"It's senpai for you! You need to add 'senpai' to their names, Niikaz. And also, I will stay with you!" Kazu insisted.
"What?!?!" Niikaz was shocked by his persistence.
He looked at her with determined eyes.
"Whatever," she finally gave in, and he flashed her a bright smile.
"Ooo~ heh~" The rest looked at them enviously.
(What a pain in the arse.) Niikaz just stays silence with a headache.
