I’m Not the Mastermind

Chapter 23

Not long after Yujin met with the head of the Mage Association, the place was turned upside down once again.

This time, the chaos was due to Yujin’s bold claim that he would hold a lecture on reestablishing Space-Time Magic.

With the head of the association’s confident proclamation, they scrambled to organize the lecture, spreading the news across the nation.

When this news first spread, most people thought it was an exaggeration.

‘Space-Time Magic? They probably just pieced together some bits of knowledge from the Transcendents, as usual.’

Space-Time Magic didn’t exist until now. More specifically, actual Time Magic was non-existent, and only a fraction of Space Magic was known.

However, the news disseminated by the Mage Association claimed that Space-Time Magic had been developed to such an extensive degree that it could form a whole new school of thought.

Understandably, it was hard to believe. What even is Space-Time? It’s a realm so distant that only those with the powers related to it among the great Transcendents could properly meddle with it.

As for the existing Space Magic, such as Space Pocket, teleportation, or expanding and contracting space, they were like the powers refined by Dragons, who were the true masters of magic. Only those who entered that grand realm could properly wield such powerful spells.

Yet, they were saying someone had completely established a school around such magic? The lifelong dream of a mage, just like that?

They thought the Mage Association was making a fuss about some hollow knowledge they had just dug up. It was likely just another localized space manipulation spell discovery.

‘Well, even that would be impressive enough to check out. Though, it’s still not like it’s Time Magic…’

However, as they mulled this over, the head of the association’s statements and the thesis he unveiled completely flipped their evaluations.

[This is the thesis submitted by that mage. It contains some new knowledge about Space-Time Magic.]

With the head of the association’s firm assurance and the solid contents of the thesis, the news swept across the nation, leaving mages, scholars, and even power players in shock as they twisted their bodies to find a way to attend the lecture.

A few days later, at the venue hosted by the Mage Association.

“Is it true? The author of the newly established Space-Time Magic thesis will actually hold a lecture?”

“Yeah, didn’t the head of the association personally invite him?”

“Moreover, he’s going to give a free lecture without any fee!”

“As expected! The authority of the head of the association is astounding!”

“But is it really true? That knowledge of Space-Time Magic has been completely established…”

“Hah, this guy’s slow on the uptake. The magic circle verification is already complete. It’s actually been proven as genuine Space-Time Magic.”

“Who on earth has fully established Space-Time Magic?”

“I heard he came from the East…”

“What? The East is completely disconnected from magic!”

“Who knows? There might be some revelation about Space-Time over there…”

“Finally, the secrets of Space-Time Magic…”

Chatter filled the air as the audience buzzed with excitement, their voices echoing throughout the lecture hall.

The audience was packed with many renowned mages, heroes, scholars, and power players.

Their topics of conversation revolved around just two things.

The newly established Space-Time Magic and its author.

Someone who made it possible for an ordinary mage to touch upon a concept so grand that only Transcendents could intervene.

Amidst the swirling speculations…

“This way, President.”

“Right.”

A sharp-looking woman with short, glorious purple hair escorted another woman with a voluptuous figure, fiery red hair, and golden eyes to one of the elegantly arranged seats above.

One peculiar detail was the red pupil vertically marked like a scar in the center of her yellow irises.

Those reptilian-like pupils gazed intently at the lecture ahead.

“Professor Reina.”

“Yes, I’m listening.”

The woman accompanying her was none other than Reina Sahart.

She was the professor in charge of evaluating students from a previous Hugo party, and after hearing about Yujin, she decided to investigate him.

And the woman she was accompanying was…

“If what the professor says is true, could this be the work of a Dark Sorcerer?”

“Indeed, President.”

“Hmm…”

The President of the Academy, Ines Karandar.

Known as the ‘Great Witch’, rumored to have descended from a line of Dragons, she was one of the world’s top-tier powerhouses, sitting right there in the lecture hall.

“At first, I was merely curious. Who is this one that has established a Space-Time Magic I couldn’t even grasp myself? Yet, suddenly, the professor reports such a thing to me. His name was… Yujin, correct?”

“Yes.”

Reina bowed her head in response.

Since meeting the previous Hugo party, she had indeed practiced her investigations into Yujin.

And the result was… ‘nothing at all.’

Yujin’s prior history was unnervingly clean, as if he had dropped into this world out of nowhere.

This only fostered Reina’s suspicion, and soon upon hearing about the chaos he had caused concerning Space-Time Magic, she sprinted to report to the President.

For the Academy, Dark Sorcerers and Demons were immensely important issues. In fact, one of the students from the Academy, the second princess of the Arsedium Empire, was under the secret influence of a Demon.

And the Dark Sorcerer factions were eyeing her. As a President famously protective of her students, this couldn’t just be left alone.

Now, suspicious of a possible Dark Sorcerer claiming to have established Space-Time Magic, she felt all the more compelled to attend.

‘A Dark Sorcerer who established Space-Time Magic… It’s not definite, but I need to check who it is.’

As her eyes glittered coldly…

From the back of the lecture hall, Yujin faced the President’s direction.

“…Hmm?”

“Hmm? What is it, Yujin?”

“…No, it’s nothing.”

He felt a faint yet dragon-like mana and turned his gaze in that direction. Tiamat felt it too…

『Wait, is that energy…』

She sensed something familiar about the energy.

『…No way… Karandar, you…!』

Even in her incorporeal state, she felt her heart race in cold sweat as her face turned red.

‘Tiamat, did you notice too?’

『Uh, what?』

‘It’s weak, but I can sense dragon energy. The subject packing that power seems to be human though.’

Yujin’s words made her cheeks heat up further.

『I-I see… 』

‘Wait? Tiamat, I’m sensing something akin to shame… Do you know something?’

『N-no! I don’t know! Nope! I know nothing!』

‘…Is that so?’

Yujin felt she was holding back something but decided to focus back on his conversation with the head of the association instead.

Meanwhile, Tiamat was drowning in her thoughts.

『Karandar… How could you do *that* with a human…!』

She was utterly ashamed that one of her kind, someone she had taken under her wing, did such a thing.

Meanwhile, Yujin wrapped up his conversation with the head of the association.

“Yujin, all preparations are done, so…”

“Yes. It’s time to go up.”

“Please do your best.”

The head of the association grasped Yujin’s hand, bowing several times in gratitude.

‘Hearing this much makes me feel a tad guilty.’

With the head of the Mage Association being so formal, Yujin felt a bit of sympathy, but he had no intention of retracting his lecture.

Anyway, he left the head of the association and proceeded toward the podium.

Thump, thump.

The sound of him stepping slowly climbed the stairs.

-……

Despite the quietness, that sound carried a tremendous presence, quieting the audience.

Thump, thump.

All eyes were drawn to the podium. Some people gulped; others stared, aghast at the figure that had taken the stage.

His neatly arranged hair was different from his usual messy style. He tidied himself up a bit due to someone jokingly suggesting he should behave more formally.

Dressed impeccably in a suit, he looked less like a mage and more like a distinguished musician from the entertainment world. His softly smiling, gentle face had a charm that could catch anyone’s eye.

Thump, thump…

Finally, the small yet echoing footsteps stopped all around the lecture hall, and the man opened his mouth.

“Greetings. I am Yujin, the author of the thesis on Space-Time Magic.”

His voice, resonating through the air with magical clarity, accompanied a smile.
