Chapter 55: Makarov: This damn familiarity... Who is it?!!!
The next day.
In the early morning.
Outside Gaal's magic shop.
Gray rushed over, knocking on the door and shouting, "Brother Gaal! The Guildmaster is back! Brother Gaal!"
Inside the house.
Gaal's sleepy voice came from within, "I know."
The door was subsequently opened, and Gaal stepped out lazily, his hat slightly askew.
Gaal raised his hand to adjust it and then said to Gray, "I'll be there soon; you head back first."
Gray nodded, "Okay!"
Then he ran towards the guild.
Gaal stood at the door, taking a breath of the refreshing morning air, stretching his body.
He had thought the Guildmaster would return quickly, but after finishing his research last night and dealing with a bunch of little skeleton dragons, he had not received any notification.
With no inclination to sleep, he simply continued studying magical items until late into the night.
Still, he hadn't received word and went to sleep.
He was contemplating how the Magic Council's magical airship couldn't possibly be too slow, but it had only returned last night.
Riding on a Dragonite would certainly be faster.
After adjusting his attire and straightening his magic hat, Gaal locked up his magic shop and headed towards the Fairy Tail Guild headquarters.
Inside the Fairy Tail Guild headquarters.
Makarov sat dispassionately at the bar, listening to Gildarts recount his battle experiences.
After a while.
As Gildarts finished his narration, Makarov felt both exhausted and somewhat shocked, "So... the Giant's Mountain Range was blown up by the Grimoire Heart, Guildmaster Hades, using forbidden magic? Does he... have no limit to his magical power? The detection equipment from the Council revealed that the magical energy from the epicenter reached a staggering 550 million, comparable to a small-scale magical spirit. There is no record of this in the Council's documentation."
As the strongest dark guild that has risen prominently in the last decade or two, the Council had indeed gathered a lot of information, but it was severely limited.
Especially concerning the magical abilities of Hades, who could blow up a mountain range all by himself.
A figure as dangerous as him, if the Council had known, they wouldn't have allowed him to grow unchecked. They would have assembled forces to eliminate him at the first sign of appearance.
But now it might be too late...
Gildarts spoke up, "I discussed this with Gaal. This Hades must have a nearly limitless source of dark magic. Providing him with a continuous supply of magical power. My own power is considered top-tier on the Ishgar continent, but after consuming restorative potions, it wasn't enough for him. In the end, that guy even resorted to using forbidden magic, which is beyond what a human can handle. However, the final spell was cast slowly. We chose to face him head on, which led to that mess."
Makarov twitched at the corners of his mouth, "Let's not mention that last part. Don't say it to anyone. Especially not the Magic Council!"
If that got out, half the responsibility would fall on him.
It would be better to offload everything onto the dark guild.
Makarov pondered for a moment, "In that case, it does make some sense. Dark magic is different from other elemental powers. Borrowing from other sources can cause bodily harm, but dark magic erodes the mind. If the opponent is the leader of the strongest dark guild, those corrosive effects might actually serve as nourishment for him. That's how he has nearly infinite power..."
There were magic sources in Ishgar as well, but none were as perverse as Hades's.
Other sources, like fire, would scorch one's insides after prolonged use, and if overdone, could even cause the user to explode.
But dark magic sources didn't have such concerns; it depended solely on the user's mental fortitude.
If an ordinary dark mage tried to use Hades's magic source, they would probably be consumed by the darkness in under a second, becoming a mindless puppet.
However, a mage of Hades's caliber could fully control that power for their own use.
Realizing these connections, Makarov couldn't help but furrow his brow, "It shouldn't be... How could a dark mage of this level go unnoticed? How did he suddenly appear in recent years?"
An image flashed through Makarov's mind, but with his decades of experience, he couldn't pinpoint who it was.
Unable to figure it out, Makarov decided to move on and looked at Gildarts, saying, "This matter needs to be reported to the Magic Council. But considering the circumstances, the Council probably won't blame us. Moreover, with Hades's overwhelming strength, those guys should be given a wake-up call. When Gaal arrives, I want you all to come with me to the Council."
Gildarts wore a helpless expression, "Why don't you just go for me? I really don't want to face those guys; who knows if they will bring up old grudges?"
Makarov shot a glare at Gildarts, "I didn't blow up the Giant's Mountain Range, how do I explain? You know that, right? Whose fault is it that you didn't hold back during battles back then?"
Gildarts had a pained expression, "Just let Gaal go. By the way, he can use Illusion Magic. He can directly recreate the scene. Much better than what I could describe."
Makarov waved his hand, head throbbing, "Go on, go!"
Gildarts laughed, vanishing without a second thought.
Makarov sighed, feeling drained.
He then looked at Ur, speaking,
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this, Ur. This guy is too unreliable."
Ur shook her head with a smile, "I need to thank you all. This whole situation stemmed from me. I'm sorry for bringing you into this."
Makarov shook his head, "It's fine. Besides, nothing good comes from dark guilds; confrontation was inevitable. Discovering the danger on the other side early is a good thing. Better to be prepared than unprepared."
Ur smiled, "That sounds just like Gaal."
Makarov chuckled lightly, "Gaal is certainly the one who gives me the least trouble. You all can stay here for now. Soon, I'll take Gaal to the Magic Council."
Ur expressed her gratitude, "Thank you."
She pulled Ultear to thank Makarov.
Makarov waved his hand with a smile, signaling them to get back to their tasks as he headed upstairs, deeply pondering who Hades really was.
Not long after.
Gaal entered the guild.
After greeting the others, he also made his way to the second floor, looking at the pensive Makarov and saying, "Guildmaster."
Makarov snapped back to attention, lifting his head, "Gaal, you're here. Have a seat."
Gaal walked over to sit down, and then Makarov continued, "Gaal, can you use Illusion Magic to recreate the battle scene? Mainly regarding Hades."
Makarov had been weighed down by worries ever since the disappearance of the Second Generation Guildmaster Precht.
Over the years, he had become the strongest light mage on the Ishgar continent.
However, listening to Gildarts's descriptions, Makarov pondered several times; facing Hades, he had no chance at all, how could he not be concerned.
Light and dark were fundamentally opposing forces.
If they truly crossed paths in the future, with no preparations on his part, what would happen to the kids in the guild if he got defeated?
Gaal nodded, understanding Makarov's anxiety, "Of course, no problem."
Upon seeing Hades, Makarov could likely guess his identity.
Although Hades's aura and appearance had changed somewhat, he still looked quite familiar.
In the original story, Makarov failed to recognize Hades's true identity when they first met on Tenrou Island; perhaps he didn't recognize him at first but couldn't believe that it was the Second Generation Guildmaster Precht until Hades's familiar tone later on confirmed the truth.
Makarov had no choice but to accept this reality: Hades was indeed the Second Generation Guildmaster Precht of Fairy Tail.
Gaal raised his hand and waved. On the table between Gaal and Makarov appeared the illusion of the Giant's Mountain Range, along with scenes from the battle.
Gaal pulled his hands outward.
The place where Hades was standing suddenly expanded several times.
A clear-faced Hades with white hair and a long beard appeared in front of Makarov.
The moment Hades's face appeared, Makarov felt something was off, and his brow furrowed involuntarily, "This guy... Why does he feel so familiar?"
