Chapter 5: The Inventing Machine
Ash pulled the gadget out of his pocket, and as it emerged, he couldn't help but grin. It was The Inventing Machine. He remembered this one well from the show—an all-in-one device that allowed its user to create any gadget they could think of. The machine was a small, square box with a simple screen and a few buttons on the front. It didn't look like much, but Ash knew better.
In the episode he had watched, Nobita had used it to create all sorts of gadgets by simply describing them. It could turn ideas into reality, a perfect tool for someone like Ash who wanted to become a superhero. Now, standing in his new apartment in this strange world, he held the power of invention in his hands.
"This is insane," he muttered to himself, sitting down on his bed with the machine in front of him. "I actually have it. I can make anything I want."
He stared at the machine for a moment, his mind racing. Back when he was a kid, watching the episode for the first time, he had thought about all the cool things he could make if he ever got his hands on a gadget like this. Now, it was real, and he could finally bring those ideas to life.
"Alright," Ash said, rubbing his hands together. "Time to get serious."
He grabbed a notebook and pen from the desk. Before he started creating, he needed to plan. If he was going to build a superhero suit, it had to be perfect. It wasn't enough to just look cool—he needed to survive in this world, a world that could throw anything at him, from mind-readers to supervillains.
Scribbling in his notebook, he began jotting down ideas.
"First," he said aloud, tapping his pen on the paper, "the suit needs to survive extreme conditions. Underwater, freezing cold, extreme heat… basically, I should be able to walk through a volcano and come out without a scratch."
He scribbled the words Extreme Condition Protection on the page.
"Next," he continued, "it has to fly. What's a superhero suit without the ability to fly? I mean, I could just use a gadget for that, but it's better if it's built into the suit."
He wrote down Flight underneath the first point.
"Super strength and super speed… can't forget those." He added Super Strength and Super Speed to the list.
"I'll figure out weapons later," he said, pausing for a second to think. "But I definitely need a radar. Something that can detect anyone or anything nearby. You never know what's lurking around in this world."
Proximity Radar was added to the list.
Ash leaned back, looking at his notes. It was starting to come together, but something felt like it was missing. "Oh right, an A.I. assistant!" he said, smirking. "Because why not? Tony Stark has JARVIS, and I need my own A.I. to help manage all this stuff."
He quickly added A.I. Assistant to the list.
Then, his thoughts shifted back to telepaths. "I definitely need some protection from people like Professor X," he muttered. "A telepathic shield or something. No way I'm letting anyone read my mind."
Telepathic Shield went onto the list.
Satisfied with his ideas so far, Ash set the notebook aside and looked at the machine. "This is going to be one overpowered suit," he said, grinning. But then, he paused.
"Wait a minute… am I cheating too much?" he asked himself, frowning. "I mean, I'm getting all this power right off the bat. Shouldn't there be more struggle, more build-up?"
He thought about it for a moment, then shook his head. "Nah, forget that. Better to be overpowered than dead. The first time I died wasn't exactly fun."
Feeling confident again, he placed his hand on the machine, ready to begin. But just as he was about to start describing the suit to the inventing machine, his stomach growled loudly.
"Ah, crap. I haven't eaten anything since I got here," he muttered, rubbing his stomach. He looked over at the kitchen, remembering that he hadn't checked the fridge yet. Maybe there was some food in there.
Standing up, Ash walked over to the fridge and pulled the door open. He stared inside, his face falling at the sight. Just like in his old life, the fridge was practically empty. A single bottle of water sat on the shelf, mocking him with its loneliness.
"Great," he said, closing the door with a sigh. "This is Nobita-level bad. I've got the gadgets, but I still don't have food."
Ash glanced around the apartment, his mind already working on a solution. He could go out and buy something, but that would mean spending money, and he didn't have a lot of that either.
Walking over to his wallet on the table, he opened it and looked inside. A couple hundred dollars stared back at him. "Not exactly rolling in cash," he muttered. "I really need to figure out how to make some money."
He thought about it for a moment, trying to come up with a plan. Maybe he could invent something to sell, or use his gadgets to solve some kind of problem for people. But then, his natural procrastination kicked in.
"Eh, I'll deal with that later," he said, waving the thought away. "Right now, I need food."
As Ash turned to leave the apartment, his eyes fell on the carpet on the floor. A sudden idea popped into his head, making him stop in his tracks.
"Wait a second," he said, grinning. "I don't need to spend money on food."
He looked down at his pocket, the one that had given him all these incredible gadgets. Surely, there had to be something in there that could help with his current situation.
With a confident smile, Ash reached into his pocket. He could almost feel the gadget he was looking for, the one that would solve his food problem in an instant. The pocket seemed to react to his thoughts, and he knew he was about to pull out something useful.
But before he could see what it was, the chapter came to an abrupt end.
