Chapter 14: WAR SITUATION
[RUSSIA]
[MOSCOW,KREMLIN]
[PRESIDENT OFFICE]
(VLADMIR PUTIN POV)
I am currently sitting with the general discussing the current situation of the war, especially the Kursk region since it is the only place where Ukraine tried to be on offensive.
So, Andrey, tell me about the war situation in the Kursk region?."
"Yes, president, the war situation is like this: even if we win this skirmish, we still have a small number of soldiers in that area, and if Ukraine attacks us again and gets a breakthrough in Kursk, then it will raise their morale, so that is why we are going to send a mixed battalion to the border area to reinforce our forces."
"Very well, then now tell me about the things that we will do if they successfully enter the kursk region ?."
"Well, even if Ukraine captures some area of the Kursk region, it will not be that serious, and we will still do an offensive tempo in Donbas. The Ukrainian army has struggled so mightily in the Pokrovsk sector in August that there are rumblings about the potential collapse of the AFU front here."
"Is it necessary to conquer this region?."
"President, the sector is currently the most consequential sector of the battlefield right now, and let me remind you that it is a crucial logistics hub for the Ukrainian defenses in Donbas. It is one of the two railway hubs under the AFU control in Donbas right now.To put it in the simplest terms, supplies and equipment are brought via railways to logistical hubs and then transported to the frontlines by vehicles via highways and roads."
"Why do not we take Kramatorsk as well since it is also a hub?."
"Sir, that is because Kramatorsk is still quite far from the Russian army, so there is no immediate means for us to threaten the Ukrainian logistics in north Donbas, while Pokrovsk, which is responsible for the Ukrainian logistics in south Donbas, is near our army, and we can win this place quickly."
"But losing this city would not necessarily mean the collapse of all logistics in this area, right?."
"Yes, president, you are right, but after losing this city, it will take longer for Ukraine to supply this front at the very least, and judging by the speed of the army advance in August, the battle of Pokrovsk may start very soon."
"What is the composition of the army that is advancing towards Pokrovsk?."
"At this point, the Russian 15th, 30th, 137th, and Vostok brigades, the 288th Artillery Brigade, and the 90th Tank Division, along with several other smaller units, are advancing on Pokrovsk from three axes, and in this week, the situation of the Ukrainian army on each of the axes hastily deteriorated."
"What are new areas in the region that we have conquered then?."
"President, we have captured Novotoretske, Novozhelanne, Zavitne, Skuchne, Mezhove, Komyshivka, Ptiche, and Mykolaivka, among other villages. In the north, our army advanced along the Kazenyi Torets river to threaten Hrodivka from the north, along with approaching from the south, capturing Krutyi Yar, making advances in Krasnyi Yar, and attacking Hrodivka directly. Here, the 151st Ukrainian Brigade looked outnumbered after being assaulted from several directions. In the south, we forced them to make a quick retreat from the 68th Jaegar Brigade and the 25th Air Assault Brigade, which withdrew under the threat of encirclement, losing several villages in the process. Now the battles are going on in Selydove."
"Are we already attacking that place?."
"Yes, president, you are correct?."
"Well then continue your speech from Selydove."
"Sir, we are attacking that place from the Mykhailivksa and from the north of Selydove, and it looks doubtful that the undermanned AFU brigades will be capable of holding on for much longer against our powerful attacks, but we will also lose some troops there since the town has quite strong defensive positions, several strongholds, and a line of trenches. But do not worry, I have already ordered an artillery fire on the enemy's position, and the report I got states that the 47th Brigade of the Ukrainians has seemingly retreated from Novohrodivka without a fight."
"Any major damage to the cities that we conquered just like the rest of them or some new information for us?."
"Actually, the aerial footage and reports of recently captured towns and villages in the Pokrovsk sector show that they have not been destroyed nearly as much as places like Bakhmut or Avdiivka, which Ukrainians defended for months."
"It is good news for us then."
"Yes, president, it is good for us since it indicates that we did not have to use too much artillery and glide bombs to capture them."
"Was it due to Ukranian forces in the region to surrender or something else?."
"President, it was because of their withdrawal, which was so sudden that even our army was very surprised by it."
"So you are saying that they gave them the opportunity to run away?."
"Yeah, president, I am very sorry for it, but we thought they were trying to flank us by surprise."
"You do not have to be scared of it since I know that the battlefield is unpredictable."
"Thank you for your understanding, sir."
"Now tell me, what is the explanation for their retreat?."
"Sir, the explanation is that they are having a severe shortage in their manpower, which is far worse than what we thought, and this contributed to the collapse of their defenses in the Pokrovsk sector."
"But their newspaper reported that they have recently conscripted some civilians, so the situation should not be this bad."
"Sir, that is one of the reasons why they lost since the new troops are very inexperienced, probably due to the lack of training and moral issues. Also, the soldiers are getting demoralized due to our recent victories."
"Even if we have won this easily, we should not forget that they have several brigade reserves in that region, and perhaps the deployment of more battle-hardened and trained units may change the situation, so we should slow down our advance and send some troops for reinforcements."
"President, I will order some reserve troops to mobilize."
"Now tell me how much time you will need to conquer Pokrovsk."
"Sir, we will need weeks, if not days, to take control of Pokrovsk."
"Any idea of Ukraine's defense plan?"
"President, we are thinking that they might decide to make a stand on the outskirts of Pokrovsk itself as the most realistic option of preventing the collapse of this sector."
"In the Toretsk sector?."
"Sir, we have completely captured Zalizne and Niu York, along with making small advances inside the region, and today we even got the report that in Chasiv Yar, we finally managed to gain a foothold across the canal, and in just some time we will have a permanent presence beyond the canal, which is one of the critical defensive barriers of the Ukrainian army in this town, and after doing this it will spell further problems for the AFU's hold over Chasiv Yar, while on the other hand we also captured Kostyantynivka and advanced on Vodyane, which means that Ukraine's control over Vuhledar is becoming difficult due to supply issues. Around Vuhledar, they have also fallen back from Pavlivka."
"And in Kupiansk sector?."
"Sir, we have occupied Synkivka in August, after almost a year of fighting for this village."
"Well, now move towards the current situation of Kursk again. Tell me why they attacked it?."
"President, we think that they attacked the Kursk region because they want to force us to redeploy units from Ukraine in order to weaken our offensive potential, particularly in the Pokrovsk sector, and if we lost the war in Kursk then indeed we had to scramble to bring reinforcements to stabilize the Kursk front."
"Well, thank God we had those Indian troops in that region."
"Actually, sir, are you sure that those are Indian troops?."
"Yes, I was seventy percent sure before, but after seeing the SU-57 fighter jet, I became one hundred percent sure since only India had the research data for those jets."
"So we should accept their demands, sir?."
"Yes, we will accept their demands. Ask a global newspaper to publish about our victory in Kursk and tell them about our army's bravery with a picture of them. Also send the Indian commander a promotion letter, making him a brigadier."
"President is not the promotion too sudden since he will just jump over the rank of Colonel to become a Brigadier."
"I do not think it is too sudden since he protected our borders from enemies even when he was outnumbered and even when he had a mole, and also do not forget that I always promote those who are worthy of their rank, so do not ever try to question my decision."
"Yes sir."
"Any reports from the air force about where the jet went after escorting the soldiers?."
"No, president, we only got to know the general direction of the jet and nothing else. I am extremely sorry."
"Do not be discouraged since I knew it would be difficult to locate a fifth-generation aircraft that has the capability of remaining out of the range of radars."
"Thank you for your understanding, president."
"Any loss of our air force?."
"Sir, our air force."
When he was about to answer my question, suddenly an intelligence officer barged into my room.
"Sir, we have a report regarding the current situation."
"What is it, soldier?."
Before he began, I started to think about what it could be that he had to barge into the room like this.
"Sir, we got a report that stated that Kramatorsk logistic base has been destroyed by a mysterious aircraft and the Ukrainian army is retreating from Donbas to repel a surprise attack from our military, due to which we quickly won Donbas."
After he said that, I started to connect the dots and came to the conclusion that it was the Indian Air Force who had done this.
"Andrey quickly released a statement in which he stated that the attack on Kramatorsk was done in retaliation for Kursk since we have to protect our allies and make sure nobody gets any information about them."
"Yes, sir, I will do it in this instant."
