Chapter 1: 1. Are You Kidding Me? I’m Fighting Chaos?
7747744.M41.
The Lunar-class Cruiser, Stellar.
The grand temple occupies the entire space beneath the officer deck. Under the soft glow of countless candles, it gleams with resplendence.
On either side of the temple stand two giant statues of saints in a standing pose. Below the statues are thousands of devout followers, arranged along a red carpet decorated with golden edges and the Imperial double-headed eagle insignia. Led by priests, they engage in fervent prayer.
Noah stands on a viewing platform extending from the wall, with a circular skull engraved on the floor. His handsome face looks both divine and serious, seemingly praying to the Emperor along with the crowd below.
But he's actually thinking.
The ship has been traveling through the Warp for two days, and Noah is contemplating when the rebellion will occur.
Because Noah isn't a native; he's a transmigrator from 024.M3, an ancient Terra inhabitant.
The reason for his transmigration isn't because he was hit by a truck or had a terminal illness, but a rather absurd one—
He installed a mod.
As everyone knows, Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader is an outstanding CRPG game.
Noah, a fan of Warhammer, immediately got the game and opened the Steam Workshop to search for cosmetic mods.
While searching, he unexpectedly found a mod called 'Imperial Expansion Pack' in the workshop, which was a hefty 13GB in size—almost larger than a DLC!
There was no doubt that this massive mod could bring a revolutionary gameplay experience.
In the base game, you start with a Sword-class frigate, but with this mod, you can upgrade it to a Lunar-class Cruiser, and additionally, you get a convoy of escort ships, making naval battles larger, more frequent, and more WAAAGH!
As the game progresses, you can unlock battlecruisers, battleships, and even the Gloriana-class Battleship!
If it weren't for the game being called Rogue Trader, Noah would have thought he was playing Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2.
Excited, Noah downloaded the mod and launched Rogue Trader, spending 30 hours of pure effort, with a little help from a cheat engine, to finish the game.
However, when the game ended and the expected final cutscene should have appeared, the prompt Would you like to start New Game Plus? popped up instead.
Noah, too quick with his hand, clicked yes without reading it, and the next moment, he felt a blackout and lost consciousness.
When he regained consciousness, Noah found himself in the luxurious palace at the top of the spire in the Hiveworld.
Waking up in a 500-square-meter room, attended by dozens of beautiful handmaidens, he sat on a golden toilet. This was when Noah first started to think.
Good news: He had transmigrated.
Bad news: It was into the Warhammer universe.
Good news: He was a planetary governor.
Bad news: It was the Warhammer universe.
Noah felt numb.
Though being a planetary governor allowed him to have power over an entire planet, the existence of the Four Gods made him feel on edge, always worrying about whether he'd attract their attention, even suspecting his transmigration might be part of a Chaos plot—
Although he didn't understand why Chaos would target someone so insignificant. But, being human, he eventually got used to the numbness.
Noah was the same.
At first, he was terrified, but soon, he began to enjoy the privileges of being a planetary governor.
Until one day, a month later, when the Stellar cruiser appeared in the planet's orbit—the Rogue Trader von Valancius Dynasty had visited, and its overseer announced that he was of the von Valancius family bloodline and eligible to inherit the dynasty.
That's when Noah realized everything up to that point had just been background information, and only when he boarded the Stellar did the true adventure begin.
After all, even his name, Noah, was the one he gave to the protagonist in the game.
"This is truly the best place for contemplation."
The noisy prayers of the temple muffled the footsteps of the newcomer. It wasn't until he spoke that Noah noticed his arrival.
The man walked toward Noah while gazing into the distance, staring at the vast cathedral below the lower deck: "From here, you can see the most magnificent view of the cathedral. Isn't it marvelous? This is the irrefutable testament to the Emperor's exalted status!"
He sighed and finally turned toward Noah.
"Praise the Emperor."
Noah politely smiled and examined the man in front of him.
The newcomer wore a luxurious black officer's uniform with a black mechanical implant on his head. His handsome face bore several savage scars. Meanwhile, the man was also sizing up Noah.
Wearing a lavish outfit with a golden Imperial double-headed eagle insignia, a gold necklace resembling the nouveau riche's style, with silver hair and blue eyes, his face was handsome and fair—a typical pampered noble.
The man slightly lowered his head and fixed his gaze on him: "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Kunrad Voigtvir, Whisperer of the Rogue Trader Theodora von Valancius, at your service."
"Noah von Valancius. But I assume you already know who I am."
Noah returned a polite smile but had no intention of engaging in deep conversation. He got straight to the point: "I guess you have something important to discuss with me, right?"
The Whisperer, simply put, was the head of spies.
He was a high-ranking officer on the ship, but he also had another identity—he was a follower of the Chaos Gods.
He was secretly plotting a rebellion aboard the ship, aiming to eliminate the rulers of the von Valancius dynasty and all heirs.
Coincidentally, Noah had the same thought.
"Of course, you're very perceptive."
A faint smile curved Voigtvir's lips, "I intend to invite you to meet Lady Theodora. I assume you have many questions for her, and I believe she has many questions for you. But unfortunately, you haven't had a chance to talk yet. This voyage has been full of difficulties."
Noah deliberately showed a troubled expression:
"Actually, I'm not very familiar with the layout of this ship. Mr. Voigtvir, could you guide me?"
"Oh, of course, it would be my honor. Please, follow me."
Voigtvir looked honored, quickly leading the way.
On the surface, their relationship seemed cordial, but neither of them had any intention of stabbing the other in the back—literally.
Voigtvir planned the rebellion, while Noah knew the plot because he was familiar with the story.
This was one of the reasons Noah had unhesitatingly given up the glory of being a planetary governor and chose to board the Stellar as an ordinary Rogue Trader.
Being familiar with the plot was one thing, but more importantly, Noah had a cheat, and a big one!
Although Wind Spirit, Moon Shadow, the cheat from the game, couldn't be brought into the Warhammer universe, there was a mod in Rogue Trader called the Toy Box—essentially an inbuilt cheat engine.
This cheat engine was even more powerful than Wind Spirit, Moon Shadow, and successfully followed Noah into the Warhammer universe.
This was the trump card that gave him the confidence to board the Stellar and begin the "main storyline."
Although the cheat was likely part of Chaos's plot, Noah couldn't care much—if it was a scheme, what could he do?
He couldn't exactly take on Chaos himself, right?
And looking on the bright side, maybe the cheat wasn't from Chaos at all. Maybe it was a blessing from the Emperor?
As Noah followed Voigtvir down the deck corridor, a virtual panel appeared in his view:
[Homeworld: Hiveworld (You were born on a rather ordinary Hiveworld)
Origin: Noble · Saint's Blessing (You are an ordinary upper-class noble among the masses of the Imperium)
Victory Moment: Glorious Honor (You are influential in both the criminal and political worlds, thus appointed as planetary governor with no one daring to trouble you)
Darkest Moment: Stigma of Shame (You are the illegitimate child of a family, and when they discovered this, they immediately severed all ties with you)
Profession: Officer]
[Fleet Composition
Lunar-class Cruiser: Stellar (Flagship)
Sword-Class Frigate: Neutron Killer, Terra Nova
Firestorm-Class Frigate: Heavenly Angel, Divine Judgment]
The panel itself was unremarkable, but fortunately, Noah could use the cheat, and now his confidence was soaring!
"I hope everything goes smoothly," Noah muttered quietly to himself, his right hand brushing against the protective amulet hidden beneath the luxurious silk fabric of his clothing.
The amulet was styled in the classic design of the Imperial double-headed eagle, with a state church emblem at its center. It hung around his neck on a finely crafted adamantium chain and was commonly known as a Rosarius.
Rosariuss were extremely rare, typically reserved for high-ranking figures such as Space Marine chaplains, confessor priests, missionaries, Inquisitorial judges, or Canonesses of the Adepta Sororitas. Most planetary governors would never obtain one in their lifetime.
But thanks to the wealth of Noah's Hiveworld, he had found this Rosarius in his family's treasury and had been wearing it ever since.
As for the Rosarius's effects, they were modest. It contained a miniature Conversion Field generator that could produce a protective energy field around the wearer, intercepting physical and energy projectiles. It could even neutralize the attack of a plasma gun, to a certain extent, which often appeared as a miraculous phenomenon.
Noah's hand brushed against the plasma pistol at his waist. He was now just waiting for Voigtvir to initiate the rebellion so he could blast him to pieces—literally.
Boom!
The heavy iron doors began to creak open with a deafening roar as the gears turned.
According to the plot, this was where the first battle would take place.
While this battle served as a tutorial in the game, in reality, even a tutorial level could be deadly!
Noah's brow furrowed as he stepped back behind Voigtvir.
