Chapter 7: Meeting a Hero.
"Uhh, excuse me. You can't do that"
Kevin turned his head in curiosity and saw a dude wearing pyjamas and yellow goggles floating clumsily beside him.
"Who are you?"
"Uh I don't have a name yet, but I'm a superhero"
The young hero said so with more than a little pride in his voice and Kevin only gave him a raised brow. He recognized the voice and could hazard a guess who this was.
"In those clothes?"
Kevin questioned, causing the young superhero to feel a bit embarrassed before responding to the query.
"It's my first day, I don't have anything else that's expandable to wear"
The young hero, explained feeling a bit more embarrassed that he had to explain that as he never thought anyone would question his choice in costume.
"OK but you could have chosen anything besides pyjamas, old clothes or you're dad's hand me downs or something"
"Uh I can afford new clothes I don't need hand me downs"
"So you aren't poor meaning you could have bought new clothes after this"
"That's kind of wasteful, so uhh… forget about the clothes, you were about to throw this guy of a building"
Mark quickly returned the to the topic, avoiding answering any more questions about his current superhero costume.
"Yeah, bozo broke into my house and tried to shoot me, what do you want me to do?"
"Call the Police, that's what you do when someone Trespasses"
"You must be Canadian because that's not how we do it here in America"
Kevin responded as he let go of King Lizard, forcing Mark to quickly fly down and catch him, preventing the villain from becoming roadside pizza before he then flew back up.
"Hey! you can't just throw people off buildings like that, you could have killed him"
The young hero shouted disapprovingly at the actions of the individual he just met, absolutely not caution whatsoever.
"That was the intent, Mark"
"That– wait, how do you know my name?!"
That young hero quickly tensed up and clenched his as he asked that question, his eyes behind the goggles narrowed in suspicion and he began to back away slowly.
"That's your name? You just looked and sounded like a suburban white kid called Mark"
Kevin informed with a shrug, although he found it funny that the guy was so gullible, he supposed he was still an amateur.
"I do not sound like a suburban white kid, what does a suburban white kid even sound like, plus I'm sure that racist"
Mark defended himself as he relaxed a bit and let out a small sigh. He basically just gave away his name, luckily there's plenty of people named Mark so it should be fine.
He then floated down and sat on the balcony, like a visitor.
"How am I racist? I'm black"
Kevin informed as he then transformed his body back into human form causing Mark to look at him curiously.
"OK so what?"
The young hero was unperturbed and Kevin expected him to fumble his words but he supposed Mark wasn't those who suffer from white guilt plus he wasn't even human so he has nothing to be guilty about
"fair enough"
He shrugged his shoulders.
"You can turn yourself into diamonds? That's kind of cool"
Mark asked in a bit of curiosity and slight amazement, kevin simply shrugged at his words before speaking
"Meh it's overrated, what's your power?"
"just the typical stuff, flight, super strength, invulnerability"
Mark informed, as he grabbed his chin thinking about a name for himself, one that would be based on his powers.
He felt there was no need for secrecy considering the guy figured out his real name and since his identity is hidden this wouldn't come back to bite him, plus his powers are typical plenty of superheroes have them.
"Wow, the full package, you got laser eyes too? Maybe you should call yourself superman"
"That's a horrible name, I'm super and a man, it would be lazy to just combine the two"
He said, although he felt that he had no right to talk since he couldn't even come up with such a simple name.
"I give you an idea and you call it lazy? you know beggars can't be choosers right?"
Kevin said rhetorically, as he leaned on the balcony, it would be ideal If he could touch Mark without raising suspicion from him.
"I know but I don't want my name be so simple and uninspired, it needs to mean something, stand for something"
"uninspired? Who's the guy literally struggling to come up with a superhero name right now?"
Kevin said in an exaggerated tone as he feigned offence to Mark's statement.
"oh sorry didn't mean to–"
"it's cool man, was just kidding, the names Kevin by the way, since I kind of figured out your name"
Mark was a cool dude so it wouldn't be bad to be friends with him at least for the time being, Kevin was not keen on becoming a superhero, he won't become a villain as he still believes in basic morality so he'll just cruise about and enjoy his life.
"Nice to meet you Kevin"
Mark said and Kevin expected some sort of fist bump or handshake but that never came but even if it did, Mark wore gloves so he wouldn't be able to absorb his DNA.
Curse you gloves, my most hated enemy
He thought, as his plan was thwarted.
"Want a drink or something?"
He asked, his saliva was still DNA so it was a viable option.
"Oh shit sorry, I didn't mean to impose on you, see you later"
Mark informed, he hadn't realised he was now just sitting on some strangers' balcony and having a casual conversation.
DAMN IT!!
"Oh it's fine, see ya later, if I see you again and your name is even more lazy and uninspired then you owe me a soda"
"ha! Yeah you got it, I'll come up something better than superman"
Make said as he waved goodbye and flew away, leaving Kevin to curse himself at the missed opportunity.
"Well I'll see him again in the future"
He said as he looked at the damage to his apartment and sighed, the landlord would not be happy, especially considering the man let him live here off the books.
"It'll be a dick move to just up and leave"
