Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Ambushed
Ruth Wilcox was choked up. As the president of a subsidiary of Fengdu Group, she was characteristically stern and unsmiling, and her employees spoke to her with utmost caution, fearing they might say something wrong, let alone someone daring to hang up on her.
However, in the eyes of the security guard Yusuf Zuck, her status as a big president was completely ignored.
She had thought that Yusuf Zuck was calling back to apologize, and she had raised her chin in smug expectation, but she could never have imagined that he had no such intention. He simply asked her if she was still in her office because he needed to fix the power supply!
That was just like Yusuf Zuck—if he promised something, he would see it through. He didn't lie and always did as he said.
"I'm in the office," Ruth snapped back coldly and then, with a 'click,' hung up the phone, fuming.
On the other end of the phone, Yusuf Zuck was a bit perplexed. What's with this beauty boss's temper, changing like the weather forecasts? One moment sunny, the next cloudy?
"Hmm, it's good that she's in the company, saves trouble tomorrow. Tomorrow, I'll have to find a place with no people to give myself a thorough check and see what's going on with my Invisibility Technique." After walking down the main road for about half an hour, Yusuf Zuck finally found a nearby subway station—he was too stingy to pay for a taxi.
"When can I make it in the capital to have my own car and a small two-room apartment? Then I'd be satisfied with life!" Yusuf Zuck yearned for a future life. Housing in the capital was so expensive, he didn't know how many years of hard work it would take just to buy a seventy-square-meter two-room apartment.
Perhaps, if his sister became a star one day, he could really enjoy some good fortune—he was counting on her making something of herself.
An hour later, after taking two subway transfers, Ruth Wilcox called again. As soon as Yusuf Zuck answered, Ruth snapped, "Are you trying to deceive me? It's been an hour, why aren't you here yet? You actually made me wait an hour?" Ruth's voice was quite high. In fact, she was supposed to go home from work an hour ago, but she waited patiently once she heard Yusuf Zuck was coming to fix her power supply.
However, the wait turned into an hour, so she was frantic. Was this small security guard too oblivious? Was he really poking fun at her over a bowl of spicy hot pot he owed?
"Ms. Wilcox, I was outside the Fifth Ring Road, and I've taken the subway twice already. I'll be there soon, soon," Yusuf said helplessly.
"I'll give you five more minutes, if you're not back by then, we'll talk tomorrow," said Ruth Wilcox before hanging up the phone once again.
She also knew that traffic in the capital could be bad, and although it was night, there were still many people enjoying the nightlife. Before midnight, traffic in the city center was not smooth, so taking the subway was relatively quick.
This time, Yusuf didn't disappoint Ruth. Just over three minutes after hanging up the phone, Yusuf was knocking on her office door, breathing heavily.
The secretary had already finished for the day, and most of the company's employees had left, leaving only a few working overtime.
"Hi, Ms. Wilcox, how are you!" After receiving a signal from Ruth Wilcox, Yusuf pushed the door open with a grin and greeted her first.
Seeing Yusuf's grinning appearance made Ruth a bit annoyed, and at the same time, she coldly continued to pack her things and said, "You have ten minutes, hurry up and get it done!"
"It'll just take three minutes, not ten," Yusuf replied as he picked up his tools and new sockets and began to reinstall them immediately in front of Ruth's desk.
He could tell that this boss was a bit annoyed with him; his personality might have been a bit much for her to take, so he had nothing more to say. All he needed to do was fix the socket and then head back to his dormitory to sleep.
Their interaction had been over a bowl of spicy hot pot, and if he kept harping on that with the beautiful boss, she'd get tired of him even if he didn't. Some things shouldn't be overdone; pressing one's luck is just plain impertinence!
Ruth Wilcox didn't pay him any more attention; after packing up, she simply sat in her chair and waited quietly.
Soon enough, one power source was fixed in a minute, and two minutes later, as he replugged the computer, the screen flickered, and power was restored!
"All done, goodbye Ms. Wilcox!" Yusuf announced, having learned his lesson this time, he didn't chuckle any further but nodded respectfully to Ruth and then turned to leave!
Ruth was a bit stunned by Yusuf's sudden change in behavior. Wasn't he just laughing and joking a moment ago? How had he changed so quickly?
"Bang." The office door closed, and Ruth came out of her daze, then chuckled bitterly to herself. Why was she getting worked up over someone else's mannerisms?
She picked up her bag, left the office, and took the private elevator straight to the underground parking garage!
At this moment, Yusuf wasn't going downstairs but made his way to the hotel rooftop through the pedestrian walkway.
He wanted to re-examine his mutation on the quiet rooftop, where few people usually wandered.
After sitting down, he started to recall the mythical events of the day. First, he was electrocuted, then he discovered he could use Telekinesis to see everything within ten meters, even through walls and human bodies, seeing into the blood and internal organs. Then he learned about being Invisible, which he could maintain for three minutes at a time.
He also had power, but now he didn't even know how great his own strength was.
He didn't know if this miracle, this god-like Skill, would continue in his life or if it was just a transient phenomenon, present today and gone tomorrow?
So he was worried, because he wanted this divine Skill to last forever, for his future life might be filled with one miracle after another, all thanks to the divine signs present within him.
Moreover, if he could always have this divine sign, then... Yusuf Zuck's eyes became sharp, as he felt the weight of a mountain pressing on his heart. In fact, his biggest dream was to overturn that mountain, because that very mountain had ruined his mother's entire life.
"Huff~" Yusuf Zuck shook his head, forcing himself to calm down. Once again, he used Telekinesis to target the Blood Beads in his mind.
However, the miracle of becoming Invisible did not occur again. It's important to note that almost six hours had passed since he left Ember Vance's place.
He glanced at the time on his phone; it was almost midnight.
When it was midnight, it would be tomorrow, so he decided to try one more time at twelve.
Meanwhile, as Yusuf Zuck was on the hotel rooftop, Ruth Wilcox was driving her Audi A8 on her way home.
Yes, Ruth's car was indeed an Audi, but it was not an A3 or A4, but a high-end A8, a car that cost more than two million. This was the car she used for commuting to work, and when not working, she had other cars to drive.
She was also very tired that day. Although the bomb incident during the daytime was defused in time, all the guests checked out, and they had to refund the customers' money. But the biggest issue was the impact on reputation, as the hotel's occupancy rates and restaurant traffic might plummet for some time.
Even though her grandfather had called to comfort her, saying it was nothing serious, the hotel was her starting point. If she couldn't even handle the hotel well, how could she talk about taking over the Clan's enterprises? Moreover, many in her Clan were eyeing her position enviously. If the hotel's revenue did not compare well with last year's by the end of the fiscal year, she would become a target for others in the Clan!
A red light appeared ahead, and her car slowly came to a halt, quietly waiting.
However, at that moment, she suddenly heard a roaring noise from behind her car—the sound of a high-powered off-road motorcycle.
Ruth Wilcox cursed silently. In the capital, many people took to riding their motorcycles at night, and these people were particularly ill-mannered, zipping through the traffic and causing many driving novices to become extremely nervous with their erratic movements.
As she was muttering under her breath, the motorcycle that had been speeding towards her suddenly stopped beside her car and emitted a screeching brake noise, which was piercingly loud!
Ruth Wilcox instinctively glanced at the motorcycle.
However, as she looked over, she screamed because the motorcyclist, wearing a black helmet, swung a hammer and smashed it down hard on her car window.
With a "bang," her car was not bulletproof, so the massive force shattered the glass of the driver's side door.
She screamed, not knowing what to do, just screaming.
After smashing the window, the person then took out a large water gun—the kind children play with—and sprayed it directly at her head.
"Ah ah ah..." She flailed her arms, her entire body curling up.
Just then the light turned green, and after two roars of the engine, the motorcycle quickly drove away.
People from behind ran up, and others got out of their cars to look. There were still many good-hearted people in the world.
But... but... when they saw Ruth Wilcox in the driver's seat, they were almost scared to death, for she was disheveled, with red blood splattered all over her face, hair, and body, dripping non-stop, extremely horrific and frightening.
Ruth Wilcox shivered, continuing to scream, her whole body trembling as if her soul had left her.
Passersby called the police, and some came over to ask if she was alright, if she needed to go to the hospital, while Ruth Wilcox seemed not to hear them at all and continued to scream incessantly.
The water gun wasn't filled with water, but with bright red paint—a paint like blood!
